How to Create a Gold Foil Effect in Photoshop

- In today's Adobe Photoshop tutorial I'm going to show you a handy technique for creating a gold foil effect that looks just like the hot foil stamping printing finish that adds luxurious embellishments to printed products. We'll first create a shiny gold texture, then apply it to some text with the help of a mask. To simulate the appearance of real foil stamping, we'll finish it off with subtle effects like a paper texture and minor edge distortions.

I just watched your tutorial on Gold Foil effects - terrific. I have just one question however. I saw that you can change out the background, but how can I get this to a transparent background for use on other printed material or for my website use, in other words saving it as a PNG? Great tutorial, however I get stuck when trying to add gradient adjustment layer- the gradient acts as a solid layer on top of my image as opposed to affecting my image?

Go to: Image > Mode > (select) RGB color and 8 bit channel

Ok I did everything right and when wanting to change the text like you did from GOLD to FOIL how did you get the FOIL letter in gold what key did push to do that you completely skipped that part?

Hi, when you open that 'FOIL' psb file just do ctrl+ s and save it. The FOIL or whatever image you want will link to the main file. Hope that helped.
But does it print well?
I got into about 3 mins of the tutorial - no problems, then there was the Layer 1, Smart filters and then, sharpen, filter gallery, liquify and gaussian blur. So far so good. Then you have a small white box with a black arrow pointing down. (under gaussian blur) You have me stuck. I can't make out what you are saying and what I am supposed to be doing or how to accomplish that step. Can you please explain that in writing or in a slightly slower speed please. I really enjoy your tuts but this one it causing quite some problems for me.
You're likely referring to him make the layers clipping masks. Can be on windows by holding down ALT, and left clicking between the layers. The top layer will then clip onto the lower layer. Hopefully that helps.
