- King Charles III has cancer. The news shocked many in the UK & has fueled public interest in cancer screenings. The announcement comes less than 18 months after the coronation. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said the disease was discovered during a hospital procedure last week. King Charles is said to be positive about the diagnosis. What does the diagnosis mean for the British monarchy, Prince William & Prince Harry?

Once he starts losing his hair, losing energy, appetite and weight, throwing up and curling up in the fetal position in bed some days after his cancer treatments increase, he will get the memo to slow down. I hope he won’t need to abdicate, it will just be a lousy spring for him and then hopefully he should recover to his former strength. 💙 from a fellow cancer traveler
I dp not like the monarchy but the man has my sympathy as do all sufferers of that dreadful condition.
He rejects, as we know him, the traditional treatments, everything that means chemistry involvement. So, no lost hair ans so on. And if what his trusted doctor fails, we will hear bad news sooner as everybody has expected. Henry came to make sure that if the worst came, King William will no ostracize him, his Handler and whatever they call children.

If he is terminal, there is no point to abdicate. If he is not, William probably wants a few years before taking on that role.
As long as he's able I think he'll keep it. If he really is too sick though the heir might need to act as a regent. I doubt he'll let go of it easy. He's spent a life time preparing for this role.

I really don't see that happening. If (pretty big If for now) for some reason the treatments do take a turn for the worse, then William will have to step in and take on a more active role just as Charles did for Elizabeth when she was going through health issues.
He's pretty prepared and eager for his responsibilities. Waited his whole life for the crown. It's unlikely he'll just hand it away unless he becomes greatly sick.

Many monarchs if they're simply unwell can carry on working with occasional help from the eligible others. There's no need for any rushed abdication. Any monarch can abdicate of course, as Denmark showed.

I disagree with you here. The King is a public servant paid from the public purse, Taxpayers foot the bill. When the taxpayer has to foot the bill for anything, he/she has the right to know things that a totally private person could keep secret. If the serfs have to pay, then surely the serfs have a right to know.

However, regardless of funding, the King is a public servant. All people in public service relinquish a part of their privacy, by definition. And if they don't, they should.
In years gone by, royal families lived a far more private life than they do today. It sounds to me as though you'd like to return to the privacy and secrecy of the past.
If that is what you want, then the public has rights to. The Royal Family wants people to take interest in them; in fact, they can only thrive in the modern world by being very much in the public eye. Being in the public eye comes with strings attached. One of those strings is the relinquishing of the right to total privacy.

I think everyone needs to give the poor man space and privacy to go through his treatment. The press needs to calm down, stop speculating and stop reporting on what Harry's doing relating to his father and wait to see what the Kings prognosis is once his treatment is finished.

Exactly what I was thinking he’ll get the best treatment and won’t waiting a couple of weeks before starting his treatment. Also no other cancer patient is mentioned on news constantly everyday or big announcements about being seen in public for the first time since being diagnosed.

His maternal grandfather held steady the course until the day he died. It is premature for people to talk about abdication as this situation may resolve itself by August or September. I am confident that Prince William, the Princess Royal, her husband, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess of Wales, upon full recovery, and Queen Camilla all have a plan of action they will follow to assure things run smoothly.

It seems that it's a genetic issue. I am very curious about the kind of cancer he has if it's lung cancer as his predecessors had, or more like a pelvis area cancer. On the other hand, no matter the cancer place, for me it's a terminal stage, as he is being treated outside a hospital, meaning there's not much to be done. "Fun" fact, he went to the place where King George VI died of lung cancer, at Sandringham.
