Prison Soldiers Behind Bars | Prison Documentary Footage

- Inside this maximum-security juvenile prison there's a special cell unit specifically for teen inmates who hope to transition into the military once they're released from prison. With less than 50 spots open in the "Future Soldiers Program", competition to be accepted is tough. The unit is known as a cellblock with many more privileges than other general population cellblocks, including wearing military fatigues instead of prison jumpsuits, and overall, a unit with little to no behavioral issues. In this behind-the-scenes raw footage, military officers who run the cellblock conduct cell inspections to make sure the teens are complying with the rules and commands of the unit. Cells must be spotless and beds perfectly made. Afterward, each teen is also inspected for uniform cleanliness and hygiene standards.

I was very impressed by the sheer difference in what the officers look for during inspection, between a military prison to a maximum security prison.
I think that this is a civilian juvenile prison, this program is just meant for kids who are given the chance to transition into the military after completing the program (i'd guess that if they successfully complete the program as well, they have their offenses scrubbed from their records and are connected with a military recruiter)

A lot of you guys are confusing this portion of the military prison from the main prison. These are juvenile offenders hoping to get into the military via a good behavior program. Hopefully many of these young men go on to have fine honourable career and lives later on.

I was assigned prisoner escort duties "chaser" during my active duty. These inspections happen for a reason. The guards can instantly pick out anything out of place after seeing it enough times. I can still glance at a uniform and instantly see unfastened buttons or folds out of place. The difference in THIS place is the incentive to do well. Most don't have a "light at the end of the tunnel" and remain in despair.

I was in the navy for 7 years where I only knew of one person who spent a extended amount of time at the brig ( jail). At least, he was the only one who admitted to it. He got three months for stealing four cartons of cigarettes from the shipboard stores. He said everyday was longer than the day before. I was shocked at how small the brig was at Treasure Island San Francisco. The entire building was about 60x 100ft. I knew several others who got a day or two on the shipboard brigs but I never even knew what it looked like inside.
The light at the end of the tunnel is the train coming
I was tasked with mopping up the blood at the bottom of the stairs of a U.S. Naval ship once. The ship brig is a closet at the bottom of some very steep, narrow stairs. Not meant for more than a few hours or days. It is for people out of control. Not for someone that just messed up.
@@bruce0767 Were you in the Navy ?
@@bruce0767 our brig was conveniently next to the mess hall. I was stationed on the CVN-76 Reagan
I never spent time on the shipboard brig but I did 25 days at the brig on base. After I got charged they flew me back to port (I was underway at the time). There was only 3 people total in the brig where I went. It was only one dorm one a 8 cell solitary confinement wing. It felt like basic training 2.0 in that all we did was clean and fold clothes repetitively. Have not changed much since getting released from the Navy but thankfully have never done any time in civilian jail. 👍
These are young folks who need assistance and guidance on how to behave because it did not come from where they grew up. The adults in this video may have been giving them more attention and guidance than they received growing up. I hope these young folk were all able to transition into productive adults. 🙏

They even raided us sometimes and we couldn’t use our phones or anything. I did that for a week and I feel like it changed me, imagine doing that for 20 years. You really would be a whole different person
Try goin to full boot camp.that sucked so fkn hard.but hey the navy itself aint so bad.
that's why humanity is not needed in a brutal war, leaders need soldiers without feelings, when superiors order to kill, do it without hesitation, alternative for this recruit criminal to be soldier
@@bkjj13 but we ain’t soulless human machines. As much as people like to think that We are still humans like everyone else so we do have feelings. Plus we don’t need anyone to tell us to just kill someone. We know when to open fire, and there are time when you do not. Service members can think for themselves. As someone that spent 15 years in the army it does change you. However it also teaches you not to be a piece of shit like these "soldiers" and end up in a place like this. Being a good human is easy. Appreciate your comment. It’s always fascinating for us to document these various programs over a length of time. We see several fall by the wayside once research emerges about the effectiveness. You can tell this is not civilian jail because the inmates don't run anything there
You do understand those are all minors, right? It’s clearly not a civilian jail and most likely a last chance program for at risk youths. The difference between this and other jails/prisons is that there is mutual respect between the offenders and COs. In a normal jail/prison the inmates are treated so poorly that all respect is lost for those in charge.

What do you have to do to land yourself in a military prison
It's rare that the guys who came from jail programs, to actually succeed in the military. Typically, they bring their "baggage" with them and a lot of the same issues that got them in trouble before, will often times continue. I did prisoner transfers in the USAF, I took a lot of guys to prison or to the front gate who had been "sent" to the military by a judge who told them "they can go to jail or the military".
Had to deal with a number of the "jail or military" recruits stateside before the army sent me to Vietnam in late 1970. Most of them were a disruptive pain in the butt.
it couldn't be too bad the inmates are laughing during an inspection like it's a great place to be. when the camera is off the guards probably brings everybody McDonald's
So this is a look into the new Fort Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks. Interesting.
Would have been awesome if Lee Marvin and R. Lee 'Gunny' Ermey came walking through that door instead. Let the fun begin!!
Im still amazed they still wear boots and camo fatigues in military prison rather than orange jumpsuit or white since they're not operating in the field but stuck in their cell.
ironic they have the board game LIFE prominently displayed in the first cell
It's good to see kids getting a huge second chance like this. A chance to do something constructive with their lives so they don't wide up adding themselves to United States prison population.
I’d prefer many of these gentlemen compared to the recruits we receive today that have experienced almost no adversity in life.

What brings you to this place
Juvenile offense where you wish to move to military service after your sentence. Service or sentence program but they still get a processing sentence to make sure you’re cut else the deals off and they make a normal sentence in normal prison
At least this Boot Camp should be done like the Dirty Dozen in The USDB Leavenworth Kansas
For people that think these kids are in the military, check the description box.
I'd much prefer this over jail life. This is more structured.

This is the difference between Left and Right.
These young men really do not know the value of opportunity they are given.
A hope for a military job after a prison sentence? These kids have it made.
If this an actual military prison or state juvenile correctional facility?
@hazahizabbanzabalawan3815 - this is a state run juvenile prison that had a "Future Soldiers" unit. The unit was inside the prison, but it was a special program for teens who applied and were accepted to it. In order to be accepted, kids had to have a good conduct record and go through an interview process. The officers in the unit were military members themselves. It was very popular with a lot of the young men locked up there. Thank you for asking!

That's like infinite basic training. Glad I never got in trouble
I am a Navy veteran and retired Army 1SG. As a younger NCO, I had to escort problematic soldiers to a confinement facility. They had a program kinda like “scared straight”. I would watch them at the beginning as they were received. The problem with that was, that they knew it was a day or two. Lost some good soldiers to “off-duty” mistakes. Thankfully I never had a soldier that ended up in a confinement barracks. In Sandhofen, GE…the European confinement installation was located. I was stationed on that post in the 97th signal battalion NATO. Saw a guy in the chow hall one day escorted by two guards, with long hair and speaking perfect German. Word got around that he had raped a civilian in the mid-70’s and was just released from a German prison. He had to be outprocessed from the Army and that is why he was eating chow with us. Looked like a German and like a deer in the headlights.
We had something like that in Schweinfurt, Germany. It was called CCF. A purgatory of sorts between regular military duty with your unit or going to Mannheim where the Stockade was. Or as we MP's affectionately named it "Charlie's Chicken Farm"! 🤣🤣🤣
When I think about all the stupid, stupid shit I did as an enlisted man and just how close I came to ending up in the stockade...
Was that prison or AIT?
Marines.and army are built for these kind of kids. A year of boot camp and three year commitment to serve and 8 years total inactive retainer would reduce crime
I thought it was leavenworth

hats off to the guy doing inspections, rather than be. prick, and. yell in fake anger, he explains to the guy how to sweep under a bed. ten he explains to all what u can not have, without yelling.. He probably has a ton of respect from the inmates, and the guy with the tooth brush in his mouth should have been smacked but he was sensitive to the person. These are kids, and he doing what a father would do, raise his children. these military guys must leave this prison as a better man because of the guy doing the inspections.
@lancedalton6792 - Thank you for watching and pointing these things out. It's amazing how a little respect can go a long way inside places like this. Usually, if you show respect--even in very difficult circumstances--eventually kids will return the favor. It's not easy for anyone involved, but like you, we say hats off to those who go above and beyond to help make a difference. Thanks again for your comments!
The kid with tooth brush hanging out of his mouth in formation knock the shit out of. Total disrespect
As with my own UK there should not be prisons for military, if crime is that bad, its either discharge or civilian courts and prison.
@jayceoldacre9702 - Thanks for watching this video. We should clarify that this isn't a military prison. This is a juvenile prison that has a program inside called "Future Soldiers." Kids who want a more structured environment that runs like a boot camp can apply to get into this unit after they've demonstrated good behavior in the prison's general population. Some of the kids hope to join the military after being released, so this program helps them experience what it might be like. Again, thank you for watching!
I hope they cut that movement during formation shit out, otherwise they ain't ever makin it in the real military.
That’s how how the military really is, we chill.

What are they for? I taught soldiers dont go to prison
Prison military school to turn kids around
Military personnel can be sent to prison for the same reasons civilians can. They just go to a military prison like this instead of a regular prison.
My father had to go through this when he decided he wanted to go home for Christmas his dad said merry then called my dad’s sergeant then the cops my father was discharged from the army
Pompous attitudes
Even if this isnt actual adult military prison, The idea of having to signup for the military just to go to a special military prison is hilariously wasteful. Think about it, spending years of tax payer training just to end up in a special prison
@AckzaTV - we should have clarified better. This is a unit inside a maximum-security juvenile prison. The prison has several different units (a mental health unit, a general population unit, the military unit, etc.). Once kids are placed at this prison they can apply to be accepted into this military unit. It's basically a cell block like every other cell block inside, but all the kids in this cell block are part of the military program where they operate on a slightly different schedule than the rest. They still eat in the same lunch hall, go to school in the same school building, etc. Thank you for watching and commenting.
As a retired military let me say categorically.....KEEP'EM!!! Why people think the military should be a second chance opportunity for punks who commit serious felonies is baffling to me.
This is military ran; these kids wouldn't be in this program if there wasn't good reason to think they could become a fit. You're overreacting.
You must have been a piss poor leader then. Probably a blue falcon too if you even served. You have NO CLUE what any of these kids did or what their backgrounds are, or if they even had parents or any kind of guiding hand before ending up here. This is their chance at a better future to succeed in life instead of being kicked while their down, which is what you wanna do apparently.
I’m about to enlist in the marines they deserve a second chance ass hole I went to a program like this it saved my life
THIS IS NOT A MILITARY PRISON! Freeze frame the video on the Officer's shoulder patch at the 8:54 mark... This is a juvenile boot camp, ran by the Indiana Department of Corrections.
@AHOOSIER - yes, it's a juvenile prison with a special unit called the "Future Soldier" unit.
Doesn't seem as bad as regular state or federal prison.
All of this seems like an absolute waste of tax payer resources. Either release these people or put them in an actual jail.
These camp are no help to these kids , once they hit the streets they are bound to re-offend

My ex husband should have been in prison! Senior Trial Council determined the evidence was to old to prosecute him. Just 8 months earlier I was in a cast. The year before in a neck brace. And he married the mistress! He was retired in 2019 as an 06. Also had me erased from his military record! So after 25 years. The fact that at the end of the day, they're not soldiers. In addition, they couldn't even enlist if they wanted to. So it's all for nothing. Just an occasion to reminisce about when they're fully grown and get to go to an adult prison. Just another occasion for self hatred and humiliation.

I was one of the most laud back NCO's i knew, but these kids aren't making it.
Funny. Those kinds of people are exactly who we DON'T accept in our military. You need at least a high school diploma to accepted in the Canadian Armed Forces. I was in from the mid 80s to the early 90s and about 1/3 of my infantry section were college graduates or just taking 3 years off before they went back to University.
Other than a reduced prison sentence, I don't see why you should adhere to the army regs. Does that change your discharge from dishonorable to honorable? You're essentially a felon at that point.
It’s a juvenile prison for inmates who want to join the military. No detainee here is or was in the military
Looks like a bunch of young kids in there
