Those ports bring back memories, when I was a young I had some Technics Home speakers with that kind of port always thought they looked really cool.
Those look like some nice desktop speakers for a decent price.

I was pleasantly surprised by that port, not something you see everyday.

@@DIYAudioGuy Speakers without pos are speakers that you cant hear & cont sound as clear, like they are congested. Speakers without ports have lower bass that you cant hear. What good is lower bass extention, if you cant hardly hear it. Some great subs play lower bass extention louder than other less great subs. A slimmer speaker cabinet images the best. An 8 inch wooger in a speaker is too big & sounds flabby like a sub does, the best speaker that I have ever heard has a 4 inch woofer that plays like a big speaker. That great Danish speaker builder makes 4 inch woofers. . Big speakers sound bad & dont have any volume, that why big speakers need a sub, but why go that route, just buy small speakers that play louder than big speakers, then you wont need a sub. Never buy a speaker without a 1st order crossover. Never buy a clinical sounding speaker. If your speakers dont have good bass, dint get a subwoofer, stuccho the wall; behind the speakers as a diffusor, placewe the speakers 4 inches from the wall. Put a big piece of flat plexiglass as high as the tweeters between & benind the speakers agaonst the wall to get great imaging.

I purchased the Swan OS-10 near field desk speakers and they sound great for the money. I got them because I’ve had Swan M3A powered speakers for a few years and absolutely love the sound.

Many years ago I owned Optimus and Optimus Pro 77 speakers and was always impressed by their sound, ADS too. I love the SWAN diy kits, they are really well done. Every one of the HIVI/Swan diy kits can be had for less than the drivers and X-over’s alone would set you back. Granted these are powered so the ability to add to your computer set up is a plus! How would you rate these versus the Klipsch Pro-media 2.1's? I pulled the klipsch apart, put in a Dayton 1% cap and lined the little plastic cabs with Dynamat and a little wool, they sound pretty good!

I built my brother a pair of Swan M1s. They sound very good but they are lean on bass. They do go down to 50 hz but you will need a subwoofer to fill in the bottom end punch.

You can make a pair of the M1 Swans by doing a bit of searching on the internet. Swans/HiVi are great in my opinion. I think Swans are the pre-assembled speakers and HiVi is the bare drivers. Keep up the good work, Justin!

What kind of amplifier do you use to power them? With good sound quality... I bought a cheap 12v amp to mess with but it's basically garbage. Would love to DIY a 120v system

I have 2 sets of swans speakers. The M5A in my living room and the M300mkii for my desktop. I love these things. The only thing I wish it had is a subwoofer output with crossover control. Other than that, these things offer extremely balanced audio, and high output with low distortion.

  • @zarboaudioprojects1430

Pretty nice looking speakers. I've liked Swans in the past. Question, do the speakers have real wood veneer on them or a vinyl covering? I'm looking close but I can't tell. I guess that's a good sign. You're right, it would be hard to create these for the price.

    • @DIYAudioGuy

It is vinyl, either that or it has a layer of varnish that looks like plastic.

I have Hivi swans M50w and used it for years. Love the M50W warm sound signature. I am looking for smaller speaker to pair with computer. Which is better between Hivi D1100 vs Harman Kardon Aura Studio 3?

Very nice. There was a desk top 2.1 system called arion 750 model computer system / stand alone set it's actually one of the best sounding small desktop 2.1 system IV heard that's complete. it has a small receiver 160w with tone controls and a good amount of inputs options but no Bluetooth. The Two book shelf have dual 3 in speaker with a 1in tweets in each book shelf and 2 dual 5.25 for the passive subwoofer comes with all the wires set up for everything. at the time I got the system for 120$ total sold on Amazon. If it is still available. I would recommend it the sound out put is great and the bass is almost over powering for a small set up it's surprising good. Have a great one till the next one 🎶💯🛠️👍✌️🖥️🎶

Hey brother nice review. I'm thinking of a cheap, good-sounding 5.1 setup. So I thought about making these D1100 passive. Do you think it's easy to open the back panel? (Update: Okay you did show us the disassembly footage. I was too excited and commented early in the video haha)

    • @DIYAudioGuy

If your goal is to gut the internals, then it is easy. I got the cover off but it was pretty tight in there so I wasn't able to do much with it.

Do you feel the DSP in this series of speakers interferes when listening to Records/Vinyls?

    • @DIYAudioGuy
      @DIYAudioGuy  Před 8 měsíci

I did not listen to any vinyl so I cannot verify. But I don't see any reason why the DSP would interact with your record player. All the DSP is going to do is take the signal apply a crossovers, do some equalizing, and that's it. There's no time alignment or anything like that.

I reviewed the OS 10 as well. To me they both sound about the same, the only difference is that the OS 10 appears to use the gold cone driver. The deal 1100s are also much cheaper. You can't build them this cheap on your own.
