This worked for me, but every time I launch the virtual machine I need to go back and boot from file each time I want to use it. Any idea how to fix this? thanks!

Delete the virtual machine and start from scratch, that’s probably your best bet

You need to spoof the device ID. Try this:
> run cmd as administrator
> cd C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox
> VBoxManage.exe setextradata “put your vm name here” “VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiBoardProduct “Mac-AA95B1DDAB278B95”
> restart the machine

I believe there are a few commands that need to be run in cmd to “trick” Mac OS that it is actually running on Apple hardware and not windows. Try this:
> Run CMD as admin
> cd C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox
> VBoxManage.exe modifyvm “put the vm name here” --cpuidset 00000001 000106e5 00100800 0098e3fd bfebfbff
> VBoxManage setextradata “vm name here” “VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/Config/DmiBoardProduct” “Mac-AA95B1DDAB278B59”
> VBoxManage setextradata “vm name here” “VBoxInternal/Devices/smc/0/Config/DeviceKey” “ourhardworkbythesewordsguardedpleasedontsteal(c)AppleComputerInc”
> VBoxManage setextradata “Vm name here” “VBoxInternal/Devices/smc/0/Config/GetKeyFromRealSMC” 1
