In this video we compare the Nest vs Ring Security system. The Nest and Ring Security System are DIY Security systems that allow you to protect your home with or without monthly professional monitoring.
We review both security systems and provide describe how they work, the features of each system and the pros and cons of each type of security system.
    **Similarities - Ring vs Nest**
Both the Ring and Nest system are wireless smart security systems that work with battery powered sensors. They both allow you to monitor and control your security systems from your phone and have options for professional monitoring.
    **Nest vs Ring Professional Monitoring**
Both systems will work and alarm, without professional monitoring and alert you on the phone if there is an issue. However, if you want to be connected to a call center where first responders will be dispatched you will need to pay for professional monitoring for either system.
Nest Professional Monitoring Cost: $29 per month
Ring Professional Monitoring Cost: $10 Per Month
The Ring professional monitoring plan also includes free video storage for an unlimited number of Ring cameras or doorbells at the same address. The Nest plan does not include video storage and each nest camera will have a monthly subscription cost.
    **System Operation Nest vs Ring**
The Ring security system has a base station with a built in siren and battery backup. The base station connects to wifi and in the event of a wifi outage has cellular backup for the alarm. The cellular backup will currently work even if you don't have a professional monitoring contract. The base station is seperate from the alarm system keypads which allows you to place the base station in one location and the keypads where they are accessible. You can arm the system from your phone, using Alexa voice commands or at a Ring Keypad.
The Nest security system has a base station with a built in siren and battery backup. The base station connects via wifi and if you have the professional monitoring in place will the system will operate on cellular backup when your wifi goes down. The keypad is built into the the base station and there are no additional keypads that work with the security system. You are limited to the one keypad provided as part of the security system. You can arm the Nest security system by using the built in keypad, with RFID tags provided with the system or using Google Home voice commands.
    **Ring vs Nest Sensors**
The Ring security system has multiple types of battery powered sensors and 3rd party sensors and devices that work with the Ring Alarm system. The sensors include:
    Window/Door Contact Sensor
    Motion Sensor
    Flood Freeze Sensor
    Smoke/Fire/CO Listener Sensor
    Smoke/CO Alarm
    Panic Button
    Wired Retrofit Alarm Kit
    Battery Powered Keypads
    Siren
    Z-Wave Light Switches
The Nest alarm system has one type of sensor that works with the alarm system. A combined Window/Door contact sensor and motion sensor. There are currently no additional types of sensors that work with the Nest alarm system. The Nest alarm system works on the same app as the Nest cameras, Nest Thermostats, Nest Locks and Nest Smoke/CO detectors. However the Nest Smoke/CO detectors are not integrated with the alarm system and will not work with the the alarm system to dispatch the call center or first responders.

I like that this reviewer uses the products for a year before reviewing them. Living with a product is different than doing a high level review of it.

I'm looking for a robust home security system with the option to include outdoor cameras eventually. I've narrowed my choices down to nest, ring and frontpoint. Now after watching your review I'm favoring nest a lot less. You made it easy for me. Thanks.

don't use front point. we used them for years. Sensors are small which is nice but very unreliable. False alarms all the time. The screw us twice on the way out. They use to make it hard to cancel. Not sure if they fixed that. We notified them to cancel and they charged us an extra month saying we didn't mail to cancel. Despite the long argument they then charged us an extra month after the first month we canceled and wouldn't refund us. We were going to use them after our move but after all that nonsense and the contact sensor issues we threw it away and are staring over.

I guarantee that you will frequently have false alarms if you include outdoor cameras to your system.
With my Reolink camera system, spiders create webs in front of the infrared lights and set them off all the time. I have to use the Webster to clean off the webs.

But the $29 Nest mini has a glass break, and alarm sensor built in that integrates perfectly.

I would support google product over amazon product any day anytime but over here I feel like nest is not even trying to sell you their product while ring is doing everything I want. 10 dollar per month and it also has retrofit kit? Why would any one choose any thing else.

Hello, I would (and I have already) went with Nest as in my opinion it is better (although I will still be buying the Ring as well so I can have 2 systems and I can compare these). It has a voice feature and support Nest Tags which you do not have to use a passcode and so much more features including glass break detection (which I've tested and works very well). The only thing I don't like about nest secure is that you can't have more than one nest guard and its high price, but it's better than Ring alarm in other ways.

Is there a way set either system where it will automatically arm when you leave the home, and automatically disarm when you arrive back at home?

For some cities/ states it doesn't matter how much you pay a month for monitoring. ATM police will not becoming out to your residence due to defunding. Best alarm ATM IMO is a good dog/s

Great videos! Thank you very much for share your content. I’ve a question regarding another product that I found in several web sites and reviews: abode system. What do you think about it?

I am very interested in the “multiple sirens” feature you mentioned about the Ring product at 5:12 in the video. Do you mind following up and maybe dropping a link to where I could find that? I looked online but maybe I am confused. I am just trying to buy this extra product to add to my ring system but don’t know where to locate it.
