    As a courier I can tell u the nest is better....it just feels more solid. I'm talking about the button when u press it to ring the doorbell. The ring's button feels squishy and a lot of time u might not hit it correctly to activate the doorbell....also it seems to be kinda slow to actually activate ur doorbell sometimes. It just seems not as good as a nest and the nest seems really nice

    I bought the nest at Lowe’s for 150. I installed it myself. I say that because that is a feat in itself. I like it very much. Does the job I had to use the wedge that it comes with to angle it away from the wall just a little bit. Drilled into the brick with the mortar drill bit that comes with it. Night vision is really fantastic. I also like the fact that I can customize it.

    One of the main things not mentioned in this comparison is the video quality of the Nest Hello is night and day superior. Look at about the 6 min mark where the Porch Pirate is talking over both doorbells. On the Ring Doorbell you can see the Pirate well enough, but the background is completely blown out. Whereas the Nest Hello shows the background and the Pirate clearly. This is great for being able to see a face at the door but also a vehicle in the driveway or road in the background.

    Thanks for the review. I did my homework before I purchased my video doorbell, and I was going to go the ring, so that I can have a better view of the walkway to my door. My existing doorbell is off to the left in a corner. I opted to the Nest for the very reason you mentioned that I already have a google nest hub. Other reviews put the Nest doorbell top of the list for the video image. It is very good. What I noted in your video, but you never mentioned, is that you package and the porch pirate where taking the exact same route, and in the exact same place. Well thanks for telling us that, has you didn't mention that you see the package clearly in the Nest video, but on the image shown by Ring, it was almost out of view. The 1080P video that people think they should go after, needs to be considered, has the technology for the nest is able to show the full up and down view of your front door. Theft of packages at your front doors is what is alarming these days.

Doorbell rings on all Google home displays or speakers rings all over the house. Ring has the better outdoor lights which I use. I switched to the Nest because the Ring pro that I had I never get to pull up the video once they ring it. Its like a minute later by the time. My neighbors are ALWAYS in and out so while I'm at work or just relaxing I'm getting constant notifications that someone was spotted at the door. Luckily people are too lazy to climb stares to steal packages lol. My mother lives own a high traffic road, even when I lived with her we never dealt with "porch pirates" and we had packages coming in at least once a week. I bought her the Ring 2 and the Pro so that she could have one. She has yet to choose which one she wants up so I can't compare first hand experience just yet lol

    On it's own the Hello Doorbell is very nice. I feel a major thing that's causing me to think about going with Ring is that Nest products don't play well with other products. An example..I am looking at the Schlage Engage smart lock...with Ring you can integrate the lock with Ring so you are able to send a command to unlock the lock WHILE you are looking at your live view in the Ring app talking to a visitor. Google doesn't give you this option, it doesn't even give you this option WITH THEIR OWN SMART LOCK (Nest x Yale lock)....that just seems completely outrageous that you have to leave your live view, open another app to unlock the door, then come back to your live view using products from the same company that are supposed to play nice with each other. Really disappointed in Google lately.

    You didn't mention the night vision. I had both and Nest's is much better than Ring especially with my darker complexion friends. Also, Nest's always recording so you have a timelapse which is helpful if you wanted to see something that happened out front of your house but they didn't trip your set up area. Ring only records when someone trips your preset area. You could make your preset area bigger but you'd be alerted with a bunch of useless info during the day. That always recording could eat into your data if you don't have an unlimited plan.

    The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail.
    The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.

    We had our first package theft in four years and basically three out of three ring devices failed to detect motion. The reason I know is because I have a backup system from another brand. I called Ring Support telling them basically the system failed. She checked everything, Wi-Fi speed, zones, etc after putting me on hold, probably talking to a supervisor on how to respond, she said that it was because of cool down and frequency settings. The last motion was 8 minutes before and she knew it. I pay $30 for the Ring Plus and am 100% disappointed in their response. If you see this review on other videos, then it’s because I’m THAT DISAPPOINTED after spending nearly $1k in product and fees. Unfortunately, I have no idea which system is best at person detection, but I know it’s not Ring.

    I'm having issues with my ring right now. The 2 way talk is dreadful its really not working at all right now. I really am thinking about trying to do with Nest and see if its a better option. It looks like the two way talk sounds a lot clearer. Im getting alot of background noise with my ring right now. its pretty annoying.

    also, I would like to see face unlock technology like the Iphone has.. this would be more accurate and could allow the home owner to get in even without their phone or a physical key. Also it would provide far more accurate biometric data to respond to other coming to door and perhaps that facial deptth biometric data could be used as evidence in case of an illegal breakin or theft, on top of a 2d photo or video. Also, with this, it would make AI more usefull in responding to person coming to door and more securely having a dialogue with them, once they have been identified initially with the 3d depth face recognition tech.

      Now that Google is using a 3d face id with project soli I could see the becoming a thing soon google already said project soli would be in everything and this here radar based is way more accurate then a motion based sensor, since soli does not require a camera to see it's within certain amount of feet u have to be for radar to detect u.
      Also the 3d face unlock from pixel 4 will probably be something they use combined with soli on a lot of devices going forwards.

    • @manp1039
      @manp1039 Před 4 lety

      @@mrdadecounty3056 that would be great. I can see companies like UPS and Fedex and Amazon intigrating into it.. Maybe even the USPS for added layer of security for deliveries. I could also see this being of interest for families with kids to give them added peace of mind. Perhaps it could even be used for pets.. For example. Say I created a pet food feeder. I could do a face ID for the pet which would individually activate a feed mechanism. Or id could be used to unlock a pet door.. I am not sure how well the radar would work with animal faces. but perhaps the radar system for face unlock along with an rfid beacon combined could be used to further layer security, along with other algorythm or machine learning tech. Perhaps also if the face unlock made its way to pay terminals.. it could be used in conjunction with a password for payment systems?

    Rings work well with the Wink hub. And you can unlock your door with the Wink app. There are more options than sticking with Nest or Amazon hubs.

    My Nest Hello quit after just under two years. After 4 months of run around. I gave up. They said they would send a replacement but never showed up. Email them and they gave some excuse. Said I had to do a chat thing. After two hours of waiting I gave up. I’m done. Buy the ring. Or something else other than the nest hello.

      @@TruthVideosOnline For basic video and its intended purpose Horizontal resolution is not as important than vertical pixels. So 1200p is still higher resolution than 1080p even though 1920p Horizontal resolution is better than 1600p horizontal pixels. On a computer monitor where both vertical and horizontal pixels are both important it is less important for door bell videos.
