I have this exact weedeater and just rebuilt the carburetor but had the fuel lines in the wrong place on the carburetor. I normally take pictures as I work but was interrupted during the process. Your information got my machine going again saving me $90 for a new machine. Keep up the expert tutorials.

Great video I have the same model with rotten fuel lines. Home Depot has a universal fuel line repair kit for $5.99 SKU 752-199 that has 4 replacement fuel lines for many blower/Trimmer/etc. models. Bought one and installed new fuel lines in 15 minutes with the help of your video. Each line comes with a bevel cut end.

One thing I've done in the passed when the holes in tank are damaged for some reason and fuel leaks out of them
It's been to use the next size over fuel line and use a drill bit smaller then the fuel line, and run it thru the hole in the tank
Just with your fingers, to bore it out to the next size and clean any burs on the plastic. It works, better then having to purchase a new tank.

I just replaced my carburetor, fuel lines, spark plug, fuel filter, and air filter on my Featherlite FL21. This video was absolutely vital for understanding the fuel lines, which was which, what each one did, how to get them installed, and to the right length. Without a single doubt, I would have trashed the entire string trimmer in frustration if I hadn't watched this video first. $20 spent and now I have my string trimmer running like it's new again.

Have to agree; the best instructional CZcams video I have seen. I thought I'd have to make the tank holes bigger to get the fuel line through, but the tapered trim end worked. My weed eater started right up, but later died and had to be run on half choke due to a crack in the primer bulb. New primer bulb on order and should have this little beast back in business. Thanks again for the excellent video.

I just last week did this to my weed eater machine. The hardest part was putting the lines back into the tank holes. Instead of the 45° angle cut like you did, I used a razor knife and cut about an inch and a half long thin piece and then installed it. That allowed me have enough hanging down inside so that I could reach it with my needle nose pliers. Once I gripped it with the pliers I rotated the pliers wrapping the line around the needle nose. It was then easier to pull through.

I have this same string trimmer and this was helpful. I bought a fuel line replacement kit from Home Depot that supported multiple trimmers, but the kit had the diameters as specified in the video. As the author said, I had a hard time getting the lines into the tank. My fingers would slip trying to push the line through the hole. I found that I was able to grip it with a paper towel. In the end, I am back up and running.

Had my fuel line blow on me yesterday right in the middle of weed eating...gas spewed everywhere as well as on to the hot engine. - no fire thankfully. It amazes me that a simple tube in a hole in the gas tank can pass safety regulations. I took my tank off to get a look at it and I was like WTF....am I missing parts or something - it's just a hole with a tube in it that prevents it from leaking. But I guess they have sold millions of these and no one has died or burned up yet from leaking gas.
Anyway, your video was extremely helpful and very straight forward. Very much appreciate it!

Just replaced the return fuel line on my Weedeater FL20, took less then 5 minutes. Was able to do it with the tank on the machine, the main fuel line was still good and I had a job to finish or I would have done both. When I do the other line I'm sure I'll have to remove the tank. I found the fuel line kit at Lowes for just under $5.00, it only contains the fuel lines, no filter. When went to put the new line on the fittings I just used the tip of my needle nose pliers to open the end of the line up enough so that it would then slip on the fittings with little problem. Video was a great help in getting the job done.

great video Donyboby73.... thanks for the tips.. I really like your use of drill bits to determine the ID of the fuel lines.
You may use hot water to soften the ends of the plastic lines instead of a heat gun. A little water in a coffee cup and 30 seconds in a microwave works then you dip the end of the tube in the hot fluid. Soak the end for less than a minute to soften. No danger of igniting gasoline, or overheating and melting the plastic if you use the hot water..

I am so glad that I got to view this tip because I have a Craftsman trimmer which won't start and I believe the filter need to be replaced and that means taking the tank off. I have looked at the primer bulb and it don't look good either and may need to be replaced by next season.
I am having a problem with a John Deere Zero Turn mower which has a Kawasaki engine in it. It ran fine for most of the work I had to do and when I was about to put it away it died on me. I got it started again, but when I pushed the choke in it would die again. I had to put it under the shed with the choke out until I turned it off. This mower was worked on last Summer and the carburetor overhauled and it should be fine. I am thinking the fuel filter may be the problem on this mower also. I thank you for placing all the videos online as they are a big help to people like myself.

Nice video-- Simple job but I've never done this before and appreciate the pointers you gave (especially cutting the tubing at a 45). The the tubing on mine just cracked so I obviously went a little long on it (10 years or so)-- I'm also finding that my priming bulb is getting a little stiff too-- probably a good idea to inspect and change this out a the same time as the fuel lines if you find it questionable.

I find it much easier to install the lines in the tank if I put in the smaller of the two lines BEFORE installing the larger. That way the smaller isn't blocked (by the larger line/connector) when trying to grasp it with the needle-nosed pliers to pull it through. Next, it's a good idea to blow the dirt off the carburetor BEFORE removing the fuel lines from the carb. That way you don't take the chance of blowing dirt inside the carb through the open fittings. (The fuel passages in the carb are extremely tiny and the smallest bit of debris can plug them up.). Next, I find it helpful, when installing the fuel filter on the new line, to use a smooth-cut file to put a small bevel on the end of the filter's connector fitting. This makes it much easier to push the new line on the filter without compromising the tubing with heat. Lastly, when installing the new lines on the carb, I remove the air filter housing first. (After the housing is removed, and before installing the new lines, replace replace and snug down the two housing screws using two 1/4-20 nuts as spacers to take up the 'slack' that results from the housing being gone. This is important because those two screws also hold the carburetor to the cylinder.) This allows two things: one, it gives me a chance to inspect and either clean or replace the air filter foam element and, two, it gives better access to the fuel line and primer line fittings. There's not much room otherwise for fat fingers to push on those stiff lines. Otherwise, this video is well-presented and very comprehensive. Good job!!!

Extra tip: if you have a hard time reaching the lines inside with a pliers (can depend on fuel tank design), you can make a hook out of some wire or an old metal coat hanger to reach in and snag it.

      @wildbill23c Před 9 lety

rpavlik1 I used a pair of long nose forceps on my string trimmer last fall to get to the fuel lines as this trimmer was built backwards on a friday I think as the fuel lines are on the opposite side of the tank from where the fuel cap is...so needle nose pliers are totally useless for that LOL.

I managed to remove the primer tube and turn it around so the split piece of the pipe is inside the tank and the good end is connected to the primer bulb. All up and running again. Took around 20 minutes. 👍

Thank you!!! Cutting the hose at a taper is about the only to install in the tank.

Great video I was having trouble figuring out how to change the fuel lines because the tubes fell apart inside the fuel tank and I couldn't figure out where does the filter and the connector go Again Thanks a lot you were a big help

Is it the same procedure for the SST25CE? that is the model I have.Do the hoses go the same way in the fuel tank as in your video? When I removed the fuel tank the filter had fallen off due to the hose being brittle.Thank you for the great tutorial!Cheers

Great video, thank you, for the type of fuel lines on my brush cutter (Qualcast). I can see this video has a huge view statistic however (and I hope you don't mind me saying), don't break off the return line stop, cut it and pull it through, and also be very careful not to cut the brass on the carb tubes with a steel blade (just try to cut the fuel line tube).

    Great vid.
The input line on my Yard Man attaches to a fitting.
The return line broke off even with the tank.
I thought that it must have broke the fitting but I see in your video they don't use fittings any more.
My trimmer has been ran about 30 min.
We bought it brand new, let it set in the basement a few years.
Needed it last year, set it up and found out it wont run once it warms up.
Ordered a set of carb adjusting tools for it.
Didn't get back to it until today.
    Every fuel line is broken.
Goes to show that stuff wears out even when it is setting without fuel in it.
Makes me wonder how long a box of it will keep?
Thanks again for the great video!

I agree with other commenters here; good video and I probably won't find better. I will look though as I like to see how different people go about the same job. As the saying goes, more than one way to skin a cat. The lines are tight as they should be but rather than use sudsy water I use a fine oil. Two reasons: it works REALLY well and it doesn't matter at all if some gets into the fuel line. They are 2 stroke engines after all. Thanks for the video Donyboy
