    Oat milk is great! I actually tried a recipe on my channel for non slimy
    oat milk. It is pretty amazing how easy it is to make at home and a LOT
    cheaper too. Plus you get the added benefit of knowing exactly what you
    put in your milk. :)

    this turned out so well, very creamy and tasty!! my experience and lil cheats: took about an hour (with soaking it for around 30 min), i have a regular (pretty cheap) blender but after 2,5 minutes it was mixed well, since my blender isn't too big i dilluted it with some more water after blending (in a big bow) and mixed by hand, and added a teaspoon of stevia to the whole milk!! I also poured it through a little linen cloth before distributing into two glass jars!! I don't know exactly how much ml turned out, but around 1,5 big jars!! :)

    just tried this recipe. I didn't strain most of the water from soaking, and I used a tshirt instead of a nut milk bag (which was a struggle lol) but it turned out pretty good! Has a sticker, slimier consistency than cow milk, so added a little extra water too. Tastes great with honey.

      Melissa, from what I've heard, there's a very good chance it's because you:
      1. Overblended the oat milk OR
      2. You didn't soak the oats OR
      3. You didn't throw away the water where the oats have soaked.
      From what I've heard, the reason you soak the oats is for them to release as much of the starch as possible-it's the starch that makes it slimy.

    I use one minute quick oats as the nutrition is exactly the same for quick oats as it is for rolled oats. The only difference is quick oats have been cut like steel cut oats. The nutrition is exact. So I can let mine soak for 20 minutes in the morning and then make it or at night. At times I love to have it warm with some fresh nutmeg and a couple of slices of protein toast for breakfast. Yum! This can also be made in a bullet style blender in two batches. I also tend not to strain as I want to leave the fiber in which is what lowers cholesterol. Elizabeth MD Ph.D specialized nutritional science

      Thank you for sharing! Over here the one minute quick oats are more processed, but I guess it can depend on the brand. Yes, the straining is completely optional indeed :)

    • @ayekantspeylgud
      @ayekantspeylgud Před 5 lety +10

      Elizabeth Shaw I have a very hard time believing you are an MD *OR* a PhD - let alone both - when you ignore the additional processing that is done to quick oats and redundantly state both “the nutrition is exactly the same” and “the nutrition is exact”. If I’m not mistaken, quick oats have a different glycemic load than rolled oats, and even more so than steel cut or whole oat groats.

    • @emilyk1889
      @emilyk1889 Před 5 lety +18

      @@ayekantspeylgud glycemic load has nothing to do with nutritional differences between quick oats and steel cut. The nutrition IS exactly the same. The difference is the way that they're cut. Glycemic load measures how your body reacts to food. Because quick oats are cut more finely, your body digests it more quickly, thus raising your blood sugar quicker than steel cut, which takes WAY longer to digest because the oats are not cut up as much. It's like the difference between shredded lettuce and whole leaf lettuce. It's still lettuce. Like Elizabeth said, the nutrition is exactly the same.

    • @breeski3903
      @breeski3903 Před 4 lety

      @@emilyk1889 would using quick oats vs steel cut not matter for making oat milk? Is the difference really only important when eating it whole like as oatmeal? I've never understood the difference between the two

    • @emilyk1889
      @emilyk1889 Před 4 lety +3

      @@breeski3903 you're probably going to have to soak your steel cut oats for longer to get the same milk consistency as quick oats. The starch in quick oats, because it's mangled WAY more than steel cut, is more readily available. It might take some research from other youtubers or some experiments of your own. Thankfully, oatmeal is cheap and you can make your own quick oats from steel cut by giving them a few passes in a food processor.

    I'm late to the oat milk party. I usually buy almond milk, just started using cashew milk. I thought, who in the heck is drinking oatmeal???? Oh......how wrong I was. Bought some in the store ($3.58) and used in a coffee recipe. Ran out of it and decided to use my store bought cashew milk. NOT THE SAME. Oat milk is a game changer. But the price???? So, I had a pound of organic oats just hanging out in the pantry and googled "how to make oat milk". Your recipe was the most straightforward. I added a pinch of salt, vanilla and stevia. OMG!!!! Never buying the crap in the stores again. Thank you so much!!!
