Would you take this over a Mazda 3? How about a Hyundai Kona, Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek?
TheStraightPipes In an ideal world, I’d take the Kona’s interior/infotainment with the Mazda 3’s great styling ✌️
Toyota CH-R
I'd lowkey wait for the tesla Model Y.
Burn them all.
Tough choice, but given the practicality of the CX-30, I'd go with that. If you have the CX8 in Canada, now that is an awesome SUV.

Mazda is a persian word, it comes from the god of zoroastrians, Ahura Mazda. So persian pronunciation is the right one
That hill climb is actually impressive
The AWD is best in class.
The colour rocks too
@@TheLastElite01 I cant wit to see more comparisons for this class of vehicles, especially against strong players like subaru.
Could a Mazda 3 do that?
7:40 onwards
All I can think is "Impreza is to Mazda3 as Crosstrek is to Mazda CX-30"
Here's why CUV:
1. It's easier to get in and out of
2. It's easier to load things in and out of (including babies)
3. It provides better visibility on the road.
4. You never really worry about scraping or curbing any of the bumpers (in most normal situations)
Hope that clears up the mystery as to why a lot of people prefer CUVs (all else being equal).
Since the CX-3 is actually based on the Mazda2, it should be renamed the CX-2 so this one can a true CX-3. You're welcome, Mazda
You deserve a medal
@John Q. I just wanted to know about the leg room (both front and back), looking for new car for myself and the kids, we already have an old minivan with 170k miles on it, I'm 6 feet tall, my 11 year old is already 5'3", so I was hoping for some comfortable 6 footer leg room. The only "SUV/CUV/crossover" thing that's good on gas and has 6 footer leg room is the Kia Soul. But they have a new sh|tty CVT for 2020 and I'm not going to buy a Korean car with a CVT, that's like buying a bathtub made out of cardboard. And the previous generation Soul has a 6 speed auto which is great but both engine options are self-destruct GDI engines. 🤷🏻♂️ Not many options. I'm not buying a gas guzzler just for legroom. I used to own a 2012 Mazda5, and for some retarded reason, they pulled the Mazda5 out of North America, I should have kept it. Hindsight. I would have bought a new one already and would not have made this comment if they still sold them here.
@@justacinnamonbun8658 I saw a comment and he said He was 6'3 and he seat comfortably with cx-30
@@justacinnamonbun8658 cx5 or cx9 is for you
That is likely what will happen. Next gen CX3 should become CX-20 (SUV versions of their car counterparts)
I really appreciate the extra ground clearance in a small suv vs. a car. If you live somewhere that gets six or more inches of snow in a single storm event, that extra clearance helps a lot! I was plowing through that deep snow in a car and getting stuck from simply not enough ground clearance. The SUV just keeps going with very little drama. That along with available AWD is why so many love the small SUV. You usually get extra cargo space too.
I sometimes miss driving a sporty car in the summer but that peace of mind in a SUV during winter is easily a worthwhile tradeoff. I just ride my motorcycle more in the summer!
we get about 12-15 inches usually here one year we had a storm we called SNOWMAGEDDON with 35 inches ( Newfoundland Canada) and I had my Mazda 3 plow through some snow, however i am upgrading to a cx5 simply for the ground clearance because i know it would barrel through the snow much more effectively
Honestly my 23 cx30 base is quite sporty! The handling, steering, and throttle response are very reminscient of my old g37 coupe. Not fast, but good Mpg and more practical
@andrewgoss1682 there was something wrong with your G37
One of the main reasons why the people are turning to SUVs/crossovers/lifted hatchbacks is so that they can see (and be seen)! Have you been in a low-slung car lately? Try seeing around that F-150 parked on the corner, or that SUV in your highway lane. Visibility is important when driving, and it’s amazing that my fav CZcamsrs fail to mention that factor when it comes to auto manufacturers & trends today.
The moment you mentioned that you're in San Diego I thought: "They should meet Doug DeMuro"... 15 seconds later he is appearing :-D
Engineer : how much plastic should we put?
CEO : Yes
the interior design departement: No
How original.
Must haz all the cladding
I would definitely get the dark grey that makes the plastic less obvious.
How much more plastic could we use?
None more, none more plastic.
I have this car, best car I ever had. No issues ever, can drive it across Europe 10h a day and not get uncomfortable. 10/10
"Aight imma go to bed"

@@JimboJones99 Wrong place to post this, my dude. Señor Trump doesn't even know how to drive.
You should let imma decide when to go to bed herself.
Haha I love the random Doug cameo too
Also, really awesome to see you guys bring back the video editing to have fun playing with the design. Those are some of my favourite parts in your vids
i love how you make your videos so enjoyable by visualizing how the cars will look like
You know... as an enthusiast... I love watching reviews of great cars like the 911, GTR etc. BUT we need more reviews like this one! Many people would love to know what is the best car that they can actually aspire to own and drive. Great stuff! Keep up the good work! Loving it!
Although this seems to be marketed towards younger generations it must also be noted that some older people such as me like it because it's easier to get in and out of compared with a sedan. I still like a good driving experience and my children live far enough away I'll never have to accommodate car seats so this is a really good alternative to a compact sedan or even a hatchback like the Mazda 3. Ease of getting in and out for empty nesters.
We traded in our 17 M3 for the same reasons
It'll probably be bought more as well by the older people, as most of us are just broke rn xD
I really wish to come in one day and have that 45 seconds review be the whole thing.
But i really like watching you guys so there's that.
I'll take the CX30 over the 3. One reason - being 188cm tall I find that a CUV/SUV gives me a more upright sitting position that allows me to sit a little closer to the dash and thereby gives rear passengers a little more legroom. Notice this with my current Mazda 3 and my wife's previous Tuscon and current Santa Fe.
1 minute into the video and I'm already laughing my ass off, keep up the good work!
The b rolls shots are just perfect 👌🏻 you guys are sumthin else
So I just caught the upload before bed lol, thanks thestraightpipes for some good content that I'll have to watch tomorrow morning
Another great review as always! I really love the new interior design and the into system of new Mazda 3 and this Mazda 30. When cx5 adopted this new interior design and into system. I will buy a cx5 for sure.
Proud of you! I had a totally different comment ready to post thinking you were going to trash this car because doesn’t have launch control or zero to a hundred higher than 3 seconds but you kept the review for what the car is and it is supposed to be. Great Job. Sometimes we like reviews of normal cars for normal people like this one. 👍🏼
Too bad no one watches these in comparison to the cars with launch control videos
The black cladding would've been perfect if Mazda had reduced it by about 25%.
I feel like the new Ford Escape actually has a pretty ideal amount of it
wait til you drive one... Sooooo fucking slow...I lost interest after the test drive
alexng4 probably shouldn’t be looking at a small crossover then...they are all slow.
@@griffcoleman a larger Honda CRV is faster then smaller CX-30...thats pretty sad.
@@alexng4 lucky for you the CX-30 is getting a 2.5 Turbo soon
It's 01:36 am in the morning and all I can say is thank you
Lol 😂I loved how you put an outro after you just said the CX30 is just a Mazda3! haha
That intro never gets old :D
5:04 That's WILD LOOKING! Imagine if Mazda actually sold something like that! LOLOL
Hahaha ahh yes the covetted Raptor CX30!
Not gonna lie, I'm totally feeling that look, especially for a winter on shit roads full of potholes!
Not one but TWO references to other car reviewers, you guys are awesome. Keep it up fellow MAzda saying Canadians!
Just got our polymetal gray metallic CX-30 last Saturday in Premium trim (US)!
Really liking it! But since we moved from a 2017 Mazda6 to this CX-30, space is definitely on a short side.
Thanks for an awesome review that really influenced our choice.
😎😎
Wow, that interior looks spectacular
Awesome review!! Best review channel, lots of quirks and features 😂😂
So entertaining ! But also so informative ! Great job, guys !
I love how succinct your reviews are.
I think its the best looking “compact cross over” out there.
The plastic is too much, they should reduce it.
Really good car, but i would take the Mazda3 over this!
Agree, although it shows too much in this red car but doesn't bothers me that much if the car itself is black, it hides the black plastic
Depends where you live, in winter you don't want a Mazda3, you'll get stuck a lot.
@@leeg3784 no way the cx30 is gonna get you around better than the mazda3. Put winter tires on both, that extra ground clearance ain't gonna help you on the road
Car Guy you don’t notice as much if you get it in black.
There's going to be much money spent on back to black products once the plastic starts to fade, which it will 👎
Well Done Yuri!!! I vouch for the Micra, my 5 speed SR can get anywhere and it's so much FUN to drive!!!!
You guys were filming in Julian! I could recognize those turns anywhere! Glad you guys enjoyed some of the Cali backroads while you're here.
Excellent video review for this brilliant CX-30 👍
Why is half of Yuri's goatee missing ?
Skid marks from cliche corner perhaps?
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH LOL!!
Probably trimmed it
Bc it didn't grow all the way yet
He’s going through puberty in stages still.
But it’s still a better beard than Sydney Crosby can grow during playoffs.
That was the best intro you guys have ever made so far. 😂
You got me for a sec. I had to check if the video was going to end
Finally an "off-road" setting.
I keep scratching the bottom of the car so I want SUV in the future. It all depends on how one uses the car.
3:31 That G wagon isn’t “weird.” It’s... (drum roll)... quirky.
Good video, honest and complete followed with a Dab, you both have kicked it up a notch lately. Well done.
I like that the CX-30 comes included with a plastic case. Now all I need is a screen protector for my windshield.
*Great review guys. I like 6speed automatic better than cvt transmission.*
Really slow.... Very relative term. Most people would find it to have plenty of power. Who needs to pass on the freeway at 90mph?
It’s not slow.... I exceeded 100 mph several times in my CX5 (regular 2.5 NA engine) .... same engine in the CX30. And I do the same in my Mazda3 that I got when I traded in my CX5....
thanks for doing the color keying and knobby tires thing I really wanted to see that thanks!!
I have been looking forward to this video !!
I wished they run the whole outro then cut or cool transition back to them laughing.
It seems pretty nice, especially the interior. I can maybe see my future self ending up in something like this when my left knee gives out from too much clutch pushing and it becomes too hard to get in and out of my Miata.
best 1 min video... gotta say its pure gold
Love the Doug demuro!!! My two fav and best car channels!!!
I literally laughed when Yuri floored it and then three second later you hear the revs.
I still prefer the Mazda 3 over CX-30. Sedans & Hatchback > SUV & CUV.
At least the Mazda CX-3 feels and looks a little more 3-ish.
It's a shame that the mazda 5 couldn't be a part of this conversation, it was such a unique vehicle.
@@darienmiller1032 Yep, it truly was. Still have one. But it, and the other Mazda minivans were discontinued either in 2016 or 2018, in favor of crossovers globally.
@@lego4virgo It's terrible that minivans are dying out not because of a lack of functionality, but because of a ridiculous stigma that they can't seem to shake off. Something like a Mazda 5 is everything the CX-5 and CX-30 is, but better in every way. You're getting even better handling, less body roll, better stability, an emergency third row, more cargo capacity, sliding doors, etc. It's beyond me how a vehicle like that couldn't even get sell moderately.
@@darienmiller1032 You're right. Interestingly, they seem to be getting a 'second life' in the used car market, and for the exact reasons you just mentioned here.
Man oh man Is it late in Cali but you gotta do what you gotta to to catch a straight pipes video !! We're going for a drive!
Loved when you painted it and got rid of plastic. I could finally see it without it. Hate plastic.
9:58 the most canadian thing i heard in a while
3:31 I was like wait a minute that looks familiar
You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for the review. I’d give you a 8.8 for this. Equally as comparable to Mat Watson. Well done !
I just bought a Mazda 3, and I agree, you could have stopped the video at 0:45. You said everything you needed already!
4:55 after staring a while, It actually looks good and it reminds me of a Jaguar
I'd colour match the plastic cladding and then lower it so it looks like a slightly wide body Mazda 3 lol 😅
Great video boys!
I think the brown and white looks awesome.
Love the tail lights, but they remind me of the Ark of the Covenant!😂
About to go to bed and this notification comes up, looks like I’m staying up another 17 minutes
Me too hahah I will be sleeping at 2:40am
I had a 2013 Crosstrek. I bought a white SEL trim AWD CX30 this past week. I enjoyed the Crosstrek. I am loving this cx30. The acceleration is way better on this 2.5 l. I did a test drive on the Kona 1.6 turbo. What turned me off on that car was some review that said that the AWD version does not accommodate a spare tire. I am actually having fun driving this cx30. I really like the looks on this car, inside and out. The only negative I have is that the range on a full tank indicates 320 miles. My Crosstrek would indicate 420. Didn't do my homework there. I thought I had read that it had a 18 gallon tank. The specs don't mention the gas tank size on trim info. I bet the two top trims have the 18 galloon tank.
Doug, the kind of guy that gets himself in a...TheStraightPipes video @ 3:30
Much better value than Mercedes GLA, BMW X2, Lexus UX, etc
This thing will NEVER be better than a Mazda3. Because it is a crossover, and the 3 is a car.
Better ground clearance , higher seating position would make me get this over the 3 not to mention bigger backseat
@@markwilliams6378 not a bigger backseat. I was in one and it's tiny and I'm short. Same as a 3 unless you mean the cargo area combined? Ground clearance is really good. Mazda 3 is horrible, not a snow vehicle, a summer car, lol.
@@markwilliams6378 ground clearance for what? A 2in higher seating position doesn't mean anything. Back seat room? For what? If you really cared about back seat room that bad you would go for a bigger vehicle.
You guys are fantastic, made a non car enthusiast subscribe
You guys are great. I really appreciate your two inputs for cars. I feel you two care about what I care about. I think I'll get me a Mazda 3!
Thanks. Check tsp.TrueCar.com for the best pricing
I'd pick the CX-30 over the Mazda 3 hatch because its rear end looks normal and is more functional.
California requires front plates too....However I’ve driven for years without one and have never been pulled over (knock on wood)
Man, they’re so positive. Much appreciated >
I have bought 3 over CX30 for one major thing - 3 has manual transmission and I bought 2021 6MT hatchback which I am very happy with it.
I definitely prefer the look of the CX-30 over the Mazda3. Which is saying a lot, bc I've always been a fan of the 3 until this gen.
For counties with bad roads that small extra clearance plays a big role
Such an interesting long review.. 👌🏼
Loved the intro 😂😂😂
Why isn't it compared to the Crosstrek? Which is just a lifted Impreza..
“We are correct. You’re also correct. Everybody’s correct”
Ok Canada.

I like Toyota RAV4 but am checking this out for better interiors, better pricing and better gas mileage. Going to test drive today!
the way yuri stepped the gas in the beginning 🤣
Stay away from cylinder deactivation (or take it out for a drive where you're going 55 in 6th and the cylinder deactivation is active and make sure you don't mind the vibration). I have it in my 2019 Mazda3 hatch and the vibration really ruins the otherwise spectacularly smooth drive. Also, make sure the climate control works as it should: set the temp to 62 degrees or so and see if it blows super hot air (bad) instead of slightly warm air as it should. This is another thing that drives me nuts in my 2019 Mazda3 hatch... oddly enough it does start regulating temperature normally 10-15 minutes into the drive. Don't have this issue in my 2018 Mazda6 2.5T.
This actually looks pretty nice in person
Have u seen the 3 sedan in person?
I’m excited for the turbocharged versions of the Mazda 3 and CX-30, which should launch later this year. It’s the same one in the higher trims of the Mazda 6 & CX-5 with 227 horsepower (250 with premium gas). That should be awesome in the smaller vehicles, especially the 300+ torque. I am curious how it will impact gas mileage - I hope the penalty isn’t too much. I would personally prefer the CX-30 because there’s more room for the driver, which I need. I also like that the premium trim has rear air conditioning vents.
Great job guys
When I saw the g wagen Cabrio I was like, that's Doug's, then a picture of Doug showed up
Did you guys photoshop the thumbnail so the gap is even more huge :)
I am so happy to see that SKX !!!!
Yurie just jumps out of bed and starts recording. Somebody give my boy a comb!!!!
If Mazda made a higher performance version I’d be totally on board
What about the Turbo?
"shout-out to Mazda for still doing real exhaust tips in 2019"
My speed6 doesn't have real exhaust tips :(
WHAT? WHAT? I am speechless, can you explain more. I always thought they are real because its Mazda and a Speed.
One of the best intros...
0:55 "thanks for watching! ... no just kidding" :D
