What is the theme of second Samuel
The danger of pride and struggle of sin and lust in a believer's life. Also, Repentance and Chastening from the Lord. Read Psalm 51, which David wrote after being called out by the prophet Nathan. One of the most honest and emotional chapters in all of the Bible that most born again Christians (especially men) should be able to identify with. David had done wrong to Bathsheba, her husband, his children, but most of all... David had sinned against God and had grieved the Lord and felt unworthy of being saved, so he throws himself at the mercy of the Lord for forgiveness. And the Lord is faithful to forgive him eternally, however David suffers many consequences from his sins.
Sometimes in this life, even believers sin greatly and even though we immediately repent and throw ourselves at the mercy of the Lord. We most likely will enter hardship, pain and suffering as a direct result of our sin or someone else's. Not to say the Lord creates hardship in our lives to get us back for our sin, but rather sometimes the Lord allows the consequences of our sin to play out in order to stir up repentance and a contrite heart. 2 Samuel really encapsulates the human experience and the great hardships we endure in the course of our life.
God Bless
