  • First view of the British Type 23 frigate HMS Somerset equipped with the new Naval Strike Missile anti-ship cruise missile armament. The Somerset is the first of a total of 11 Royal Navy warships to receive this more modern weapon as a replacement for the aging Harpoon anti-ship cruise missile. The stealthy cruise missiles give Royal Navy frigates and destroyers a modern anti-ship capability and a new ability to strike land targets.

    Noted British Royal Navy acquired 11 Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems for its existing Type 45 Destroyers and Type 23 Frigates (total 11 warships). What about the new Type 26 Frigates and new Type 31 Frigates currently under construction? Will they be equipped with NSM (Naval Strike Missile) systems as well?

    • @tigerland4328
      @tigerland4328 Před 6 měsíci +3

      There was news that the NSM's on the type 23 frigates would be transferred to the type 31 frigates when the later replace the former however the type 31s will now have MK41 VLS so Im not 100% sure. I would guess the type 31s will get the NSM while the type 26s get the FC/ASM "spear 5" but I could be completely wrong.

      @kokcheongandykan3748 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@tigerland4328 Both Type 26 frigates and Type 31 frigates are to replace the Type 23 frigates. The Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems installed on the Type 23 frigates can be transferred to either Type 26 frigates or Type 31 frigates when they are retired from service. However, there aren't enough Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems available for one to one transfer to either Type 26 frigates or Type 31 frigates. Only 11 such systems were acquired and 6 systems are installed on Type 45 destroyers (6 warships) and 5 systems on Type 23 frigates (5 warships). That will mean 8 warships (most likely Type 26 frigates) will not have any anti-ship warfare capability at all. The new FC/ASM currently under development will not be ready until early 2030s. If no new acquisitions of Naval Strike Missile (NSM) systems are ordered to cover this gap that will mean 8 warships will not have any anti-ship warfare capability at all for a very long period of time. Mk 41 VLS more likely meant for surface to air missiles though it can also cater for the new Tomahawk maritime strike missiles which can have both land attack and ant-ship warfare capabilities. However, British Royal Navy currently has no plans to acquire the new Tomahawk maritime strike missiles.

      Hypersonic missiles are a paper threat. Modern naval combat is all about electronics, EM spectrum emissions, observability, and detection. Even a giant US supercarrier and its accompanying destroyers are pretty much invisible outside 50km due to modern emissions doctrine. You need to add to your manifesto about the state of our military. We need a huge investment in our military. The world is becoming a more dangerous place and we need to be able to defend ourselves home and abroad.
    We need to start to build up our armed force now this includes manufacturing in this county’s of all type of military equipment from tanks, ships, aircraft, radar systems, ammunition etc etc.
    This should also mean open up new coal mines for the making of high quality steel and open up new steelworks.
    We have become to soft and woke this needs removing from our armed forces, we need to pay our armed forces a better wage if we want to attract more people to the forces.
    The world now sees the British military as weak and this needs to change quickly, we should be on a war footing now to bring our military upto what it was in the 70/80s.
    China, the Middle East laughing at us with our de-pleated forces, hell a third world country has more fire power than we now have that is a joke. We need to spend hundreds of billions now not next years or the year after now. Stop all over seas hand out and yes stop aid to Ukraine, so they are depleting our stock piles and taking our coppers that could be used on our military spending at home.
    You want to create jobs start with the defence industry
    Also stop immigration before we have a serious terror attack and start mass deportation now.
