    Just got back home from a trip that included 4 days in Death Valley. Drove Hannapah canyon, Cottonwood canyon, Echo canyon and Hole in the Wall. The new, all stock, 2019 tundra TRD did very well everywhere.

    I took a stock (minus 20” BFG KO2s) crew max 18 tundra 4x4 on black bear and then ran it back up bridal veil falls to show capability of upward climb around tight switch backs. Did it in 4HI to boot. With right driver, these big land yachts can go some ridiculous places. Surprised a Jeep club coming off black bear, with one fella asking “how the F did you do that?” 🤣

  • @nightstalker824
    @nightstalker824 Před 5 lety +10

    Just get an sr5 4x4 and upgrade as you please. Unlike other TRD models, the tundra TRD just includes some 4600 series bilstein shocks, decals and skid plates. No crawl control, or locker found on other TRD models. You can make your sr5 4x4 a "TRD" with a few hundred dollars, vs thousands as sold to you by Toyota...

    "She's a big Girl ! ! !"
    My list would be
    1. 3-6 inch lift
    2. 33-38 offroad tires
    3. Lockers front and rear
    4. Re gearing of front and rear differentials 411-588
    5. Skid plates, Front and rear differentials, transmission, transfer case and oil Pan.
    6. Full length sliders from front fender to rear quarter panel.
    7. New bumpers front and rear with a front mounted winch rated for over the gross vehicle weight.
    8. Safety equipment such as a roll cage, fire extinguishers, 5 point seatbelts, first aid kit, Suspension seats, Air filtration system.
    9. Lighting for night runs
    10. That new bank account that you should of started up before doing all this. so when you destroy this rig or break something you can throw your money away again and start all over!!!
    Ps. It doesn't matter what order you accomplish this in because a rig is never done.

      +Robbyota 559 it’s a good list but savage! Front lockers on IFS? Might be asking for trouble. Lol. Thanks for watching. If I’m in a situation where I need a front locker, I probably didn’t belong there in the first place. IMO.

      @Tundra4x4Club  Před 5 lety +4

      +Jaylen Alexander hey Jaylen. It’s Independent Front Suspension (IFS). Having a locker with IFS puts a lot of strain on those components and will lead to something snapping if your not careful. IMO, I wouldn’t chance it.

      Tundra4x4. Club Wow. I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing. The reason I asked and subscribe is because I plan on building a overland tundra. Its Ben a favorite of mines for a while and based on the overlanding videos I’ve seen. Toyota’s( Tacoma, Tundra, Land cruiser ) are the only one that can compete with jeeps. I didn’t know anything about IFS and lockers. So thanks for that perspective brother. I def want front and rear lockers for added measure for my family Incase. Might go with A Rubicon if there is no way around that. Or maybe I’m being paranoid, lol, I don’t know.

      @@Tundra4x4Club , I always enjoy watching your videos, I am always learn something new. I guess I take things to the extreme or just like building them once and being done. As far as a front locker goes on IFS I agree it's a little extreme, however I always suggest a front locker before the rear. you will be amazed what it can pull you over instead of pushing you around and over. if you really need to crawl a lot of people forget about upgrading their transfer case or upgrading to transfer cases especially on tundras There are double up systems out there or even triple transfer cases.

    As to your Frankenstein system, if you’re going to replace the fronts, would t you want to also replace the rears so you can do an apples to apples comparison?
    Otherwise you’d have a completely different and brand new system up front and a 2 year old system in the rear.

      +kailey carr definitely. I actually don’t run a sway bar front or back. Love it. Big difference off road. The 20’s scare me a bit. Airing down to 20 psi is highly recommended. With 20’s you won’t have as much protection on the side walls.

      +kailey carr yea, you could. Or try rolling around without for a few days. It’s a personal preference really. They effect body roll, so the truck would have increased body roll around a turn or making a quick movement. The rear is easy take on and off. The front however can be a pain.
