It was amazing to watch that demonstration. The final comparison is astounding. And yes, the best reason to do this is to "get inside" the footage, so it gives us a better understanding of how life used to be in that time period. I see no downsides to what you are doing. Keep doing it!

Your work is truly breathtaking, I mean that in the most genuine way possible. In the modern world of seeing wonderus and fantastical things every day, it is seldom hat something actually blows you away and leaves you stunned, but it's fitting that it would be a relic of the past that would do that. What you're creating is a door, a portal into another time, and showing just how similar things are now to how they are then. You're removing the degree of separation we feel when watching choppy, stiff, black and white footage, and putting us right beside those who lived so long ago. I smile with them as they do when they are presented with the camera, at the wonder of such a strange technology. Thank you.

I am glad you made a video explaining the many layers of editing helping your viewers know the effort required to enhance an historic movie. Just as described. Enhancement makes all the difference whether or not I can relate. To those of us born into the era of everything filmed in crisp, living color, any of the earlier films seem silly no matter what the topic.
Without this complex enhancement, I might even have overlooked how significant is this historical footage. It looks like Pres. Wilson on a State visit to Paris in the 1920s.
Apart from an official presidential oil painting, this enhanced film may be the first realistic rendition of how the man actually looked.
At the time, he was perceived as one of the most important men in the World. It's an amazing bit of history how he went from famous, there and then, to infamous in the present day.
At first he was famous for having dominated the terms of the Treaty that ended WWI in 1918. Those same terms are now seen as having precipitated World War II.
Even worse, the same treaty made a mess of national boundaries in the Middle East ... still a source of strife a century later.
Thank you Vivid for bringing some forgotten history very much back to life. They say if we ignore history, we are bound to repeat our mistakes.

The most difficult processing that is not performed on this videos is removal of small film tape imperfections showing up as white or black artefacts where light has not been captured on tape.
In professional restoration this is usually done manually means each frame is reviewer by a person rather than supplied to algorithm. It's time consuming but once done the picture is near perfect.

The results are breathtaking for anybody like me who revels in footage from the past. In watching upscaled, remastered and colorized videos I often notice a rust color tinge on things, especially automobiles. Can you tell me what that is?

What software do you recommend using for such? I guess you are using many.
Video Frame Interpolation creates new frames with information between existing ones, so your effectly doubling your frame-rate .

The rust red fringing on your colorized vids is an artifact of overly heavy use of digital processing.
