      @robertnelson9599 Před 5 lety +43

      The appearance of Vulkan and the Salamanders is a result of Nocturne's radioactive atmosphere reacting with Salamander gene-seed. It also causes their gene-seed to have 90% chance of mutation. The Dragon Warriors were stated to be of a dark skin tone, including some individuals who had been paler before becoming Space Marines, so there is something unique about the Salamander gene-seed in that regard.

    The Salamanders are in my opinion the best Space Marine Chapter out there, even better than the Ultra Marines. They are also one of the few if only Space Marine Chapter to stay in contact with their human families making them the most noble and human Chapter out there.

    • @robertnelson9599
      @robertnelson9599 Před 5 lety +46

      Agreed, also, the Salamanders are one of the few chapters that ignored the limitation of only techmarines being able to learn the secrets of technology. While they have Techmarines to take care of vehicles and build master-crafted wargear, the standard battle-brothers are only allowed to use equipment like Terminator Armor and plasma guns if they can build it, which results in each battle-brother being able to care for their equipment to a degree rivaling techmarines.

      Well for one it might make finding the artefacts of vulkan easier if there were more of you and protecting the citizens after all ten companies of space marines isn’t enough to cover a galaxy with billions of planets and billions of imperial citizens, though the codex does not prohibit successor chapters from being built just something to think about

    They are my favourites. They are the most compassionate and most self-sacrificing. They care about humanity, which all Space Marines are nominally supposed to protect - not just in the abstract, but for individual human beings, too. They also understand the importance of battlefield logistics and the value of supply lines, realizing that - if everybody charges in headlong and without a means of support or extraction - even the most glorious campaign will end in shameful defeat. They are my ideal of Space Marines.

    The thing that interests me about the Salamanders Gene Seed is that these features were present likely since they were the 18th legion. Vulkan himself has glowing eyes for whatever reason. Like Russ having some non-human DNA in him - I would say it is likely that many of the Primarchs have some Xenos or at least purely artificial gene sequences spliced in. We are talking about engineered beings here. How did the Emperor gain this knowledge? Aside from having lived through the era of the Terran Federation where he may have traveled the stars (most likely) I would say he got knowledge from his time in the Warp when his power was enhanced. The Primarchs are also (we now know) warpy beings and this accounts for their reputed aura that makes others favor them and act with more bravery and courage.
    That said, Vulkan, Like Russ and probably Sanguinias are examples of very obvious experimentation. That leads me also to believe that like the Thunder Warriors that Primarchs might not be The Emperor's ultimate design. They are better yes, but they aren't the Custodes. They are different as if smashing together a Custodes with an Astartes and adding warpy bits. They are engineered beings after all. They are tools that are sometimes weapons and sometimes other things. Mostly weapons.
    The Black Dragons mutations are vastly different despite being from reputedly the same gene-seed. But what if they aren't? The Ossmodula modifications alone can't count for the lack of other similar mutations. This leads me to speculate that they aren't mutations at all but directed engineered changes. If the inquisition calls something a mutation then it is likely just a euphemism and not the real diagnosis. After all if Leman Russ has non-human DNA - what does that say about the purity of any Primarch or Astartes? It tells me that purity is a falsehood and means nothing. A further example would be from your recent video on Typhus where he has xenos or ab-human DNA and can still be elevated to an Astartes. This proves the process is mean to work on the humanoid form at the very least and isn't restricted to baseline humans. Purity is just some BS meant to shield the world from the real truth - that the process isn't as exclusive as they say and exclusivity is a cover like a counter intelligence plan. I'd bet people who know too much disappear.

    I was extremely hard to sell on 40k with the Imperium of Man, who first impressions were poor. They just struck me as blood hungry warmongers, but that was before the Space Wolves and then the Salamanders. These are out of place idealists the universe deserves more of.
    The Space Marines were made for more than blood and glory...to protect the innocent. They believed in the people of the Empire they risked their lives every day for. Many of the other Chapters could learn something from Vulcan.

Highlighting the franchises staple weapons (bolter, chain weapons) as well as xenos and obscure weapons could be interesting. For instance, a video talking about chain weapons as a whole, across multiple factions, or a video talking about Custodes guardian spears and their variants.

    Wait, why would the obsidian skin and glowing eyes be a sign of greater degradation? Vulkan has these signs himself. So whatever this flaw is, it is a stable variation in the gene seed not due to further mutation of the stock. They should analyse Vulkan's genetics, compare them to the gene seed and look for aberrations between those, not focus on outward appearances... oh. Oh, I just got that. It still works as an allegory, even though the skin colour is unnaturally black now.
