  • For game 82 of the 23-24 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders. New York got on the board first with a goal from Brock Nelson. Near the end of the 1st, Rickard Rakell scored the Penguin's first goal. At the beginning of the 2nd, the Penguins went on the power play. Evgeni Malkin deflected the puck into the net to take the lead. Casey Cizikas answered to tie the game. Valtteri Puustinen responded by scoring on a breakaway. The Islanders once again tied the score before the end of the period on a shot by Kyle Palmieri. Islanders took back the lead early in the 3rd on a slap shot from Samuel Bolduc. Playing in his final game, Jeff Carter slammed a puck in on the back door for his final goal to tie the game 4-4. Carter played in 1,321 games and scored 442 with 409 assists. The Islanders Simon Holmstrom scored the game-winning goal for New York. The Islanders won 5-4.

    That's just a great last game to send off the year for the Pens even if it's a loss. Carter going out with a game tying goal, giving the Pens a chance was storybook stuff and the Islanders get to battle for at least a little longer as they make their way to the big dance. Can't say I remotely enjoyed this season for the Penguins until the last quarter of the year when they actually began to play like the team that I so enjoyed watching from 2016-2018. They have been very frustrating these last few seasons to watch but if they continue what they've done here in the last 20 odd games, they could be a playoff team again next year. Farewell, Jeff Carter. You'll always be a Penguin as much as you were a King and a Flyer.

    No surprise here. Time to clean house. Defensive coach gone. The worst defense the Pens have had for a few decades. When you score 3+ goals a game on average, you should win. I don't expect the Pens to win every game. But half the games they lost was because of their Defense.

      If the power play was even mediocre at best they'd be in the playoffs, but they were horrible and no one can understand why with all that talent out there! And they were awful in overtime, a few wins there too and they would've easily made the playoffs, plus too many blown leads, very frustrating...

    They weren't amazing, but there was substantial improvement after the trade deadline. Let's hope its a sign of what's ahead. Defense needs some serious work. If that happens, then they will have a good chance of making a deep run! See yinz all next season and God bless

    • @tomodonovan5931
      @tomodonovan5931 Před měsícem

      True, and the Pens were only a few blown games away
      from being in the playoffs. That four- goal lead game
      they choked on probably was the one game that make
      them miss the playoffs. Twice that I know of, they had
      a three or four goal lead and lost the game. Costly,
      very costly. Get some physical guys who can take care
      of the other team is what the Pens need. They don't have
      to head hunt, just help the netminder from being run over
      from net crashing centers, and forwards.

    Had the lead 2 times and as long as they have Letang, they got no chance at holding leads. He is a turnover machine and leaves his position exposing the goalie and all players in the NHL know it. How can you have that much NHL experience and make the mistakes he makes on the ice every day.
