  • Pyramid Peak is the highest peak in Desolation Wilderness. It has an elevation of 9984 ft. Hike is about 9.2 miles out and back with the elevation gain of 4,083 Ft from Rocky Canyon Trail.
    Though this has the most elevation gain of all trailhead, trailhead from Rocky Canyon is the most direct but does not have the official trailhead. During our visit, a paper permit is not required due to COVID pandemic. On normal day, please refer to this site to obtain the day hike or camping permit:
    www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fs...
    The terrain is about 95% uphill, be prepared for food and enough water.
    How to get to the trailhead parking:
    1. Take higway 50
    2. Past the Strawberry Lane, below the electronic signboard there's a dirt turnout that can park around six cars
    3. Trailhead is just up head across a stone sign few meters from the parking. See video.

    What makes this different is the amount of time you spent sharing the mystery of the forest and the beauty of the high Sierra landscape with us. And your humor.

      Thank you Miyazuzu, it was a rough hike for us but such a beautiful memory. For others the climb and back is only 6-8 hrs, we did it for 12-13 hours. The unending ascend as I can still remember it so vividly. ❤️

    Thank you for letting my travel along with you. Most of the forest up through which you hiked is now ashes or burnt out stumps, but Sierra forests do regrow. It just takes a few human generations but that is nothing for trees that can live centuries. I climbed Pyramid Peak and Mt. Ralston in about 1956-58 period, climbing up from Fallen Leaf Lake by the Lake Lucille Trail that is now largely unmaintained.

      Miyazuzu, extra sad today because the fire 🔥 already reached within 3 miles from the Lake and when I checked the map, broke down to see almost of the half of the trail to Pymid Peak is burnt. Ralston Peak is also burnt. The vivid memories and soreness of our hike and now seeing that the forest is burning is just so devastating. You have seen Pyramid in the 50’s it must have been extra pristine and beautiful. Was there already defined trail back then ?

    Sounds like a bit of careful attention needed to find the trail head! Beautiful hike!! Climb all rocks :o Looks like such a fun fun trip! "I have no feeling in my legs...I'm fine" made me laugh so hard

      we missed the trailhead 2x, but are glad we hiked this first, it made other trail hikes easier. Yes, poor little legs she has. Thank you for watching and stopping by. @Twins Try. :)

    In another persons video log of hiking Pyramid I commented that I had no memory of having to climb up through that stretch of large boulders. When you filmed it, my memories came back but when you are young and not carrying the load that I ended up carrying most of my adult life, it is easy, especially after the fact. Ha ha

      Those Boulders as we climbed seems perfectly odd, the shape of it was like a perfected pyramid, we thought it was made intentionally there and such coincidence that it’s the highest peak of Desolation Wilderness. Thank you Miyazuzu for appreciating our videos. :) ❤️ wish you are well. :)

    Watch out for the badger's, n the 80s July, was snow, me and a friend, big ed, boot ski down the peak, came n horse tail falls, hwy 50,_

    • @AtTheIntersection
      @AtTheIntersection  Před rokem

      If the snow was thick enough, it might be fun to ski down the peak, though I bet it was steep and scary. ❤️

    • @paulsheridan6023
      @paulsheridan6023 Před rokem +1

      Snow level thick, u could walk inside them, it was fun run on land jump and ski with your boots, but south side of the peak, you had to watch out for the badger's, mean little creatures, but just as long as you stay a distant they will leave you alone

    • @paulsheridan6023
      @paulsheridan6023 Před rokem +2

      Have you hike rock bound pass, the lake south side good fishing too, grasshoppers, good for your frying pan to be full of trout

    • @AtTheIntersection
      @AtTheIntersection  Před rokem +1

      I would imagine how thick the snow can be, this place’s elevation is so high up. The badgers must be cute though.

    • @AtTheIntersection
      @AtTheIntersection  Před rokem +1

      I checked out rock bound pass, 24 mile loop but the elevation is a bit lower. Will have this on our list.😊
