    I remember working my ass off, and sometimes risking life and limb, around Tahoe just trying to get to the water! Trails can parallel the water for miles. Thanks for risking your life to bring us awesome fishing vids!

      If you have spent time climbing around on some of that shoreline, and it sounds like you have, it can be sketchy! I'm talking requiring a helicopter to get you out if things really go south! I just take it slow and dump my gear in an instant if I feel I need one or both of my hands to keep from falling.

    I like your undying enthusiasm and lively persona.
    Before you, I always thought shore fishing at Tahoe was a sure-fire skunkeroo.

      I thought the same thing. I fished all around it for most of my life until I moved to Reno a few years ago. Turns out, the fishing is solid. The shore fishing after this Winter has really slowed down but I expect it's going to start picking up real soon. Effects of Winter are still lingering.

      That's part of the excitement. Between all of my channel playlists, you should have a full menu of new areas for hiking and fishing to choose from. I love searching out new water to fish both in streams and lake. I want to hit one more new spot in that area before I start fishing my regular spots. With the crazy wind going the next few days, it's probably going to have to wait!

      You can get on that Rubicon Trail at from above Emerald Bay a short distance down the road from where Eagle falls Trailhead is. There is a State Park lot where you can pay a fee and park and the Trail is right there. If you want to skip the fee, you could go past the State Park Lot (Coming from the direction of South Lake Tahoe) and you will quickly come upon a gate (No sign, it's past the narrow bridge type structure) that you can walk down a road through the campground. I fished below there in 2 other clips the trail runs right along the lake at that point. Those are a couple of options.

      That spot was a helicopter ride if you got injured so I was really paying attention to what I was doing when I was climbing around on those boulder! Searching out new territory in Lake Tahoe is a time consuming, inexact science because of the drastic variations in the type of shoreline there are. I'll take really deep off of boulders over hiking out to a super shallow beach any day!

      That is a memory for a lifetime. Even if you have a small, short handled net you would probably still be in trouble in that sort of situation. I see some people fishing off the rocks like these at Tahoe who have huge nets with telescopic handles. I'll tell you from experience, that is not overkill under these circumstances.

    You should try popping a little crayfish lure thru those big rocks. I believe that is one of the primary food sources of the rainbows cruising the shoreline.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 2 lety

      When the crayfish are there in abundance, absolutely. I have a few clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist where I open up large rainbows where their stomach is backed to top with crayfish, some of which are still moving! I noticed the little crayfish weren't under the rocks I turned over at my usual spots when the water was really cold this year so that sent me out to scout new territory. Now that the water might be ticking up a few degrees, I'm ready to go after some of those big rainbows where I've had success fishing that large boulder pattern. I talk about this subject a bit in a few of my many clips for lake Tahoe. I think you are dead on with the crayfish lure advice,

I watched many Large ( 10-30 lb ) fish swirling the surface chasing bait fish all just out of reach of my cast. Truly fantastic. There is a problem in a lot of Sierra lakes with some sort of parasite. They say they aren't harmful to humans but if I see them I won't eat the fish. Maybe that's why they stopped stocking.
