    Hey Amani, I’m going up to fish Tahoe soon. Just to clarify your setup, you like to use 8lb test on the reel, but tie 6lb test to the other end of ur barrel swivel which u tie the hook onto? Don’t want to get sawed off like you say!
    Keep up the great work

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před 4 měsíci

      That is correct but I have recently upgraded my leader to 6lb vanish fluorocarbon for a little more toughness. The 8lb line on on your reel is a must if you are using mono like I do. Early on in my Lake Tahoe fishing adventures I got sawed off with the 6lb and I knew right away that anything lighter than 8lb mono was a recipe for disaster!

    Great catch . I am pretty sure I've fished this exact spot or some place right around it . Did you get snagged up alot and if not how did you manage to not get snagged ever other cast?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem

      I only got snagged once. There are sand patches to the left of where I was so I cast that way. I want to try the shallower cove to the left because with the lake so far up it's deeper. There seems to be a good mixture of boulders and sand there. Need to scout it from the road above.

      Yeah, river fishing is going to be rough for a while. I drove up to the Truckee in CA this morning and didn't even fish. Water was raging high, which is fine, but it was fairly heavily stained. I get your description of only being able to fish a few seams here and there because I've already dealt with that very thing this spring. Might be mountain reservoirs for a bit.

      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem

      Right on. We all need to be on high alert! I usually try to avoid them these days by heading above 10k for the summer but this year I'm going to have battle through it fishing lower lying rivers until the high country clears up. I used to fish rattle snake infested river canyons a lot when I was younger so I have a ton of experience dealing with the situation. I have a box of rattles from the ones that showed up in camp or were in spots where I was likely to run into them again on the way out. I actually have a rattle snake safety clip up on my outdoor safety playlist.

      I use 4 piece max catch 5 weight but I just busted the top section so I threw the top part of a cheap 4 piece 6 weight on there. The rod is now 2 different colors but I've already got a bunch of fish on it. I guess it's a 5.25 weight!

      Surprisingly, I don't get snagged much. Logan shoals and a lot of this area to the left is mostly sand when you get outside of the rocks. The places I have gone where I got snagged I never went back to.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem +2

      I like to use floating baits to stay out of snags. There are tons of crawdads in the boulders. If I throw a crawdad out there other crawdads will drag it right into the rocks if the crawdad I'm using doesn't crawl in between boulders itself. I it might work somewhere like cave rock State Park or Logan shoals because once you clear the boulders it's mostly sand.

      Yes. I move my stuff every 45 minutes to an hour. I want to make sure I/m not snagged and that nothing bad is going on like my bait sitting out of sight between two giant boulders. I often get bites right after I move my baits.

    Hi Amani! A few friends and I with no fishing experience are headed out to fish this weekend at Lake Tahoe-- do you happen to do any guided fishing? would you be interested in helping us out?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem +1

      I don't do guided fishing and I work weekends. Exactly how I rig up can be found on my fishing tips playlist in the clip "rigging up for reservoir trout". For lake Tahoe, I use 8lb mono with a 6lb mono leader. I also have clips for the PowerBait and hook compo I use and the types of hooks I use for night crawlers. I recommend everyone confirm regulations for themselves from official sources but it is my understanding that either state license is good on the lake. I have multiple spots around the lake on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist. I have clips on tackle, rods, and techniques on my fishing tips playlist that will take you from the store to the water's edge. I typically use Ugly Stik rods and then I use spinning reels that cost between $20-$30. Don't worry about expensive tackle unless that is how you like to roll. Just worry about catching fish. Good luck!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem +1

      I just checked and the boat camp in Emerald bay is closed until June 8th. You can park up on the 89 by the gate and walk down the long road to the Lake below. I don't know how high the water will be but when I was down there in the videos I shot it was a chill paradise to fish and relax in all day. Just a thought. I have a couple of clips for it on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  Před rokem

      It would have to be free spool with fish this big and strong. I used to do that with my bait-runner reel when fishing for catfish but I don't like fishing like that in this instance because big trout will sometimes drop it when they feel that resistance. If my rod is anchored they often hook themselves with those violent hits. This rainbow didn't bite, my rod just doubled over and the fish was there.

      That's why I don't go there on weekends and usually during the summer. Half the Bay Area has moved there and a ton of people do short time rentals of their houses up there so now you have way more permanent residents up there as well as tourists spread out all over the communities. Once the campgrounds open diving through Emerald Bay is a nightmare. You are right, it has blown up. A lot of the foothill communities and mountain towns in the Sierra have,.
