You know when you are getting obsessed with bike reviews when you ride your own bike and hear the LCR intro music in your head!
Love your reviews. Right on point alway lively, upbeat and honest. Plus you actually ride the bikes like they’re meant to be ridden. Your bike reviews on CZcams are in my top three of five favorite ones to watch.
I’m giving you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this one. Just so you know you got ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
On the new Superduke 1290r. Keep them coming your doing great.
Just got a 2018 rr after years of watching your vids and I’m so pleased what a bike keep doing what your doing best reviews going.
Excellent review. I thought you’d like it a little more to be honest. I had a 2013 and loved it. Imagine the 1100 must be so much better. It’s on the list of possibilities. Love the channel. 👍🏼
Love these super naked reviews 👍 Thank you.
Just got my 16 Tuono Factory back from a head gasket change. Was slowly using coolant. Only 6k km on the bike but luckily still in 2 year warranty.
Great video. Always the best reviews. Just watching this made me go out for a ride!
I'm smitten with my 20. It's worth owning the bike for the sound alone.
Brilliant review chops they are utterly addictive 😍
I've bought this bike, you have highlighted all the 'issues' i had with it. That said, its the most fun per pound of most bikes out there. Good video :)
This will probably be my next bike,…next year when they get real with the price 😉
The couple of cons you mentioned…
Quickshifter-
The clue is in the name, use it when you are going quick!..my two bikes are fitted with them
Don’t use it when the engine is still cold,…..don’t use it trundling around town,…
They work best when you’re going for it on a rising throttle, you need some rotational inertia ( speed ) in the gearbox for it to work best, not designed for crunching through the box at 2,500 revs around towns.
Low down engine lumpiness….
It’s a Big capacity V4,..not an in line 4, it’s just a characteristic of the V4 engine layout, V twins are pretty lumpy low down, what you’ve effectively got is two V twins running together, it’s just the power pulses your feeling low down until the engine gets into its stride a bit.
You were actually “lugging” the bike too low in the Rev range and it was protesting and telling you so.
It’s all about mechanical sympathy and learning the characteristics of the bike your riding, ..what it likes and what it doesn’t like….then you have to adjust your riding style to suit, ..listen to what the bike is telling you , work around that and you don’t have any problems any more,..simples 🤷🏻♂️
Exactly Mate!
Love your work chops! made my mind up for me i'm going SDR thank you
Masterpiece , I would enjoy a track day on this beast , beautiful bike ride as safe as you dare
It’s nice to actually here a review which is actually critical of certain parts of the Tuono, most reviews just say how wonderful it is, and now owning one , your review is a true representation of the bike 👌
Thanks Paul 👍
Outstanding review - one of your best. A comparison review with the SDR certainly in order.
Thanks Paul 👍
Beautiful Bike! Thanks Chopsy, great review. 🍻
I have a 2002 Aprilia Millie R and never had a problem with it. I don't ride it in the rain or leave outdoors. Now this review makes me want a Tuono . I put high mount Arrow full race exhaust and higher bars on the Millie.
Always excellent work Chops bike is a beast .
I just bought one and your review is spot on. Lots of great information! I was a bit taken aback by the low speed manners and the engine heat but it's a small price to pay for such a fun riding experience. I've discovered the quickshifter is very smooth when used over 5000 rpms.
Get it to BHP-UK and get it mapped, it’ll ride 10x better at low revs
Beautiful looking bike in the flesh 👍🙂
Look forward to you buying one Chops and doing a nice bling build on it, very relevant 😇
Another winning review vid’, Mr Chops, but one leaving me only slightly perplexed.
Clearly a superb machine which would delight any owner. I understand your explained ‘little foibles’ i.e. low rev grumpiness and imperfect shifter & blipper. I don’t think the Italian engineering mindset is to produce sterile smoothness; rather they show emotion and a few rough edges that owners become endeared with. Very fair review, however. At the risk of points on my licence, I’d definitely take the Tuono over the Triumph Speed T1200 for its presence, authenticity (made in Italy), sound and character.
You’re reviews just keep getting better and better. Keep up the great work Chops!
Thanks Sam 👍
Mr Chops, your videos are the best!
Good review chops and that sound. Addictive
Did you also find the throttle hunts when keeping at a constant opening. That was another gripe of mine...
Great review Chops. The engine does that on all of them at low revs. Not really a problem, you just get used to it and ride faster! Even with a race ECU and Akra pipe it still does it. I really can't fault the reliability on my RSV4 RF 2017. This bike has been refined over many years which is why the engine is so good and the fit and finish is up there with some of the best in my view. This bike has soul. Loving catch up on your reviews. Quality is always consistently high. Keep up the great work Chops.
Thanks buddy and interesting to hear 👍
Considering how busy you are with different videos and content this may not be feasible at all... but it would be amazing to see your workflow in editing your videos, which software you use, how you manage all the various clips etc from the various awesome camera angles.
I know it's probably not realistic now but maybe in the winter time it might be an idea? I know there will be a large amount of your subscribers who are keen to know more about how you create such high quality content. I love it. Keep up the great work
👏🙌
I just installed an Arrow pro race on my 16 Tuono. It takes you into the soul of this V4 masterpiece
Love your videos mate. The low down chug is really improved with Akro exhaust and race mapping. But with that beautiful engine why would you sit at those low revs lol. Secondly my BMW s1000rr had same issue with quick shifter at lower revs. But I find Aprilia quick shifter amazing smooth. Another great video!
Excellent review as usual chops , hey I liked the teapot cameo the other day pillion point of view is rarely covered 👍
Thanks Mark 👍
Love it 😀
Great vid Mr chops 👍
Thanks Michael 👍
Chops, you’re the best in the biz for these thorough reviews! Well done yet again! This series was educational and fun! Learned a ton, as I’m thinking of buying this bike, when it launches here in Canada 🇨🇦 Did Womble get a peek? We know how Greg feels, but what about good ole’ coloured wheels Womble???
Thanks Greycup 👍 no Womble didn't get to see this one unfortunately. Would have loved to have done a comparison 🙄
Chopsy you have always have a soft spot for the Aprilia.
One word.....LOVE
Awesome Review and Awesome Bike...
You need to Get 1 Mr Chops!!!!! ❤
I confirm acrapovic carbon exhaust with aprilia race map clears low revs issues caused by valve in standard exhaust. Best upgrade ever, now smooth at low rpm and sound so much better than stock. Addictive. I got black matte 2020 RR model and adjusted suspension for my weight and riding style. Cost £100 but ride is so much better (must do thing on every new bike). The true is, when you find your perfect suspension settings - you are not changing that :) Similar with electronic sttings, nice to have but chassis, quick shifter/blipper and of course engine! are stars of the show here. Going for RR will let you save a lot $$ and you still have tuono v4 :)
Love the video as always Mr Chops. I just wish they'd update the caponord with the V4 😔
Had mine dynoed with Akra race map/ecu flash. Sorted out the horrendous Euro compliant fueling. Now it happily does 50km/h in 4th gear with 157bhp at the rear wheel.
Nice! 👍
Fantastic review! I had 2 valve checks on my 2016 and that’s all they had to do, the engines are very precise and reliable. My 2019 Tuono gets about 160 miles/tank of fuel but all my riding is done in the countryside, no urban riding which is why I get decent MPG figures. You’re absolutely right, engine doesn’t like slow urban riding but that’s not what this motorcycle was designed for! I never get bored riding this motorcycle, the sound is intoxicating, handling is great and it looks good too! Could stand to lose some weight but I guess we can all say that post COVID!
Really ? I get 120 to the light on '19 Factory
@@NikonChris I wouldn’t lie to you! Yes, 140 to reserve light and another 20 miles to empty.
Mine 18 was like that up to 160miles after race map and exhaust 120miles max
I struggle to understand why people insist on using quickshifters at very low pace and at low rpm.
They were never designed or intended to work that way. If you want an automatic, go buy a Honda DCT.
Otherwise fantastic review as usual!
That's right. They aren't semi-automatics. My experience with shifters/blippers is that they work best at higher rpm and loads, which is how I ride my Beemer.
Although the BMW on is one of the best, and actually does work properly at low rpm (and the manual states this is fine too). Whether you want to is another story. But the BMW one only has a few exceptions for when it should be used, and low rpm/load is still ok.
Just because you use the quick shifter at low speeds doesn’t make it automatic, you’re still shifting manually!
Great review thanks for posting. Will you be doing a review of the new RSV4?
Don't make me buy a new Tuono, Chopsy! I still haven't paid off my current Tuono haha
temptin innit looooooool

GREAT BIKE
Got the 2018 bike, I didn’t know about the low rev for the auto blipper, when the engine is cold it’s smooth, but at low revs with a hot engine it is clunky.
The bike is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Great vid Chopsie, but you’ll never buy one, you’ve got to exercise the self control of the warp speed /throttle twist grip!
Its an amazing miotor, I just wish that they would address the common valve train issues, mainly the rear cylinder valve guides, etc...
Good vid. Slight correction, the last of the previous model (Factory ones) had a carbon front mud guard, so some have.
The engine definitely isn’t keen going slow but the bike is so good I don’t even notice any of the slight niggles.
"Ridden hard and you'll get just over 100 miles on a tank" - I've never got as much as 100 miles out of a tank on mine, maybe im having a bit too much fun on mine 🤭
I think you’d be wise to go back and try it again. I test rode a. Factory at a UK dealer on 19 July 2021 with a view to buy. Aprilia have given the dealers a new update map for the ECU to deal with all the low speed issues you identify and the engine check light issues. The bike is much improved and all the latest 2021 bikes will have this from now on. I thought it was amazing. And smooth even below 20 mph.
We are doing exactly that, testing it again this week against the Streetfighter 😎😎
I like the fairings
I have the 2020 version of this, all the little things you pointed out are true, but you just need to ride it the way Aprilia have made the bike to be ridden..... F..king fast and yes do not quick shift it under 4000 revs, simple really. So much fun and intoxicating every time.
There was a boy who pitched up in Oban on Saturday with a Tuono and parked up next to me. Took him about five minutes to get the thing fired up on departure. So glad I have a Honda. !!!
Sound and look much better 🔥then Ducati Streetfighter😎
Lifetime warranty, now that’s worth having provided Wheels stay in business.... having said that I had a V2 Tuono back in 2004 and it was bulletproof...
Oh Chops you had me at Whooooooooo, FJR out Tuono in 👍
I absolutely love the V4 Tuono but I traded in my 2016 factory this year because I was tired of the snatchy throttle down low. I would have gotten the 2021 Tuono because I think it's gorgeous but the problem still persists. I ended up with the V4 Ducati Streetfighter, the engine is so much more manageable and unlike the old streetfighter it handles every bit as well as the Tuono and frankly maybe even a little better. The SFV4 is easier to ride and not as frenetic as the TV4 factory, but get it up past 9k revs and its a beast.
Got the 2021 SF here atm and agree with you. Actually doing a comparison vid with the Tuono later in the week 👍
Chopsie the reason it's clunky when using the clutch is because the clutch switch doesn't disengage quickly enough. If you sand the lever back so it disengages the switch with less travel its perfect! Had to do this on my 17. Try it!
OK good tip thanks 👍
Nice ! just as a point, when QShifers were first put on bikes to us public they were only to be used over 6000 or 7000 RPM, gradually they have been improved and mapped for a much wider range but I wouldn't think anyone would be using it (Shift) below 4000 RPM ? I certainly don't if I am short shifting at those revs, but then I am getting old now and maybe old school !
Anti-wheelie apart from TC, and remembering the last riding mode. The main reasons I traded in my Speed Triple 1200 for a Tuono.
Yes agreed 👍
the Aprilia race map makes the quick shifter and autoblipper worlds better
The swinging arm is made this way to get the point of gravity lower mainly
Another good video Lamb Chop
Good vid chops. Thought we see few wheelies lol... ru testing the zh2 se.....?
You are putting out some cracking content recently and looks like some cracking content to come. I know you love the Tuono and the Beast 3.0 urm which would you have?
Tough but need to try the beast 3 again but thinking that's where my money would go 👍
I know I always talk crap about not wanting a new bike with all the electronics and this and that, but I’d make an exception for that thing
The gearbox and quick shifter are exceptionally good, don’t know where your coming from. Also suspension is perfect once preload is setup right?
Beauty
Great Review Chopsie sounds like its on par with Super Duke ?
Have to agree with you on changing gear with the clutch, my 2020 RSV4 sounds awful when I use it which I find really odd. However overall the bike is in a different league, purely for the noise it's worth it
Thanks for confirming Stephen 👍
Jimho that is not nearly 8K more than my sorted gsxs but then i am a yorkshireman. lol. Those electronics would have me meddling to much. Fair enough review though fella.
just bought a black 2011!!
That sub 3k is just the engine/mapping. My Tuono does the same. Sounds more like chain slap
Would like to see a review of the tuono non factory version
Me too!👍🏻
"I could use a bit of girth" the first man in history to say that openly 😂
beautiful bike, ktm sdr 3er gen is bike perfection to me tho
Smashing down those forks a bit easy for my liking
Grate content as Usual from Mr Chopsy. Interesting thing is that a lot of tester said that for achual track work the non eletronic suspension on the RSV4 and the Tuono is better cause it can be set up stiff then the electronic one. So achually the standard versions of this models are giving you more feel and feedback on track then the electronic suspension. Now would you get a leftover 2020 bike with a big discount or is the 2021 worth the extra money? Cause to be honest I like the looks of both models
OK interesting, only ridden the standard one back in 2016! It's not that different to the old one imo
The Aprilia Racing ECU purchase will fix the lag. Ordinarily 4500 RPM is sweet spot for the quick shifter.
Don't think there is one for the E5 engine.
Everything about this bike is GORGEOUS.... except that exhaust.
I’m 6’2 to, I’m looking to get one but I hope it’s comfortable
Nice review & a great bike. Proper grin inducer when you open the garage door no doubt BUT I would still go for the Superduke I think. Seems more refined maybe & can't resist a big V-Twin.
TC doesn't kick in with WC off. I ride my 19 like this. Unless you have TC up real high like any bike. You can wheelie ages but it does after a long one throw up a few dash warnings
Chopsy, love your content, made me fall in love with Aprillias. Decided to buy one, just cant decide between Tuono Factory 2022 or RSV4 RR 2022. Already have 2019 KTM Superadventure S which i plan to keep. Mind says Tuono Factory, heart wants the RSV4. Btw i am a big chap, advice?
Hmm tough.. you have the option to test both? Tuono is obviously way more comfortable
I watched this video review whilst chilling in the Bath 🛀🤣
I’d like to see the Std version. Just to see if it’s actually lacking in road riding.
Now that I owned my RSV4 1100 for a good while, I agree they don’t like going slow but adding a 44t rear sprocket sorted that out, made such a difference to the ride, using more gears in normal riding, which is ace because of the quick shift and blipper also sorted the slow running out in towns and tight hilly roads. Best mod I have done.
Do the slightly higher RPMs in 6th gear when cruising on the motorway bother you?
Tissues indeed!!! I am getting very tempted to have one of these... but what's it like with a pillion? 🤔 (only a half-joking question. That perch looked painful, and my daughter loves going on the bike with me...)
@NooBiker I reckon the Ilford Stig would love it a lot more if you had a Pan European... :-) Or maybe a FJR 1300....I saw a YT video with two big guys riding two up on an FJR for big miles ....in NZ....
Just leave it in first, it will be good up to freeway speeds

TXS for the review.
Bikes with 4 cilinders definitely growing on ya Chops
Last week I tested the R1250GS and the R1250 RS, neither coming close to my XR, if only for the quickshifter - 4 cilinder engine combo
A twin can be fun if in the right package but a 4cyl has so much more to offer imo
mr lambchop i bought one of these new last yr it came with the akrapovic and a tail tidy it rides a dream its the rr model i wos agreeing with wot you said its a beast the tuono and not for the inexperienced rider your a brave man turning the wheelie control totally off loool i think the word your looking for is agricultural engineering loool the 701 i had clunked through the gearbox the same and the tuono the same although when ridden they glide through i really like em a convert the morons that dis em ought to see wot improvement aprilia have made their a real bike . im glad to see it now comes with a fuel gauge lool
HEY CHOPSIE, WOULD YOU PREFER A TUONO OR 1290 SDR...😍😍😍😍😍😍
Streetfighter V-4S if you want the BEST, 1290 falls flat at 100+ mph, you want balistic power everywhere all the way to 180-mph, Go streetfighter V-4S, Just Sublime
@@michaelj.kastner5165 The Streetfighter V-4S is flat up to 100 mph, unlike the 1290 SDR which has grunt in the mid range all the way to 100 mph which is way more exciting and practical for road use! The Streetfighter V-4S needs to be at 100+ before it truly delivers it's power which is pointless for road use.
Yea chops. Ktm or Aprilia supernaked, your money which one
@@SkuStyle , my thought too, V4s wakes up above 7k rpm..whereas 1290 has torque everywhere..but it lacks top end performance like the Ducati.
@@michaelj.kastner5165 streetfighter V4 isn’t all that. I’ve had mine for nearly a year, ridden all the competitors - and would rank it last. The fuelling, electronic torque limiters and transmission lash are terrible
Btw it has one of the best quickshifters if not the best qs in the market lol
Chopsie any chance in reviewing the touring (cheaper)😃 version would love to know your thoughts in comparison to factory version.
I asked same question on part 1 of this review. Unfortunately he said there are no standard Tuono demo bikes. Total bummer really. I reckon it could be a real winner. Was considering one myself. 😢
@@DevRSVR Needs to find a second hand one to test ride.
@@DevRSVR i actually quite prefer the more practical looking touring ,everyone seems to be overlooking it review wise in favour of factory.
Thanks for letting me know
@@soupdragon1 I agree and want to see it with panniers
Yes no demos so very difficult 😢
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
“Where’s the tissues?” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Nice vid as usual!
I have been told that the lash is due to the way the engine is built, straight cut gears and no spring loaded anti lash plates etc (and the clutch sure is noisy :) )
So far i don't have any regrets getting my 2020 Tuono Factory, now i have got the Cf Akra slipon + map too. I can honestly say without sourgraping that i don't feel "cheated" by a vastly superior successor in the 2021.
Oh, and get over the "small bike, big guy" thing already :) I'm 190 cm tall too. and weigh around 95 kg's geared up and don't have a problem, at least not any more than on virtually any other bike. Only bike i have felt small on is the 1250 GS which felt like riding a Rhino..
OK brilliant info thanks 👍👍
Figured I'd chime in with the manual shifting since I bought a 2020 rsv4 and the shifter was driving me nuts when I'd use the clutch. Sounded like I was busting teeth off the trans!! The manual says the gas has to be on before you release the clutch. Sure as shit it's feels strange but no more mashing with the gas on. Weirdest thing I've experienced since none of my Japanese bikes ever required this. She's a high maintenance Italian beauty for sure.
OK very interesting Jim! We are hopefully borrowing this again to compare to the Streetfighter so will try that 👍
I want that bike with the new RSV4's engine
Thks Chopsie.Great bike for sure but that lack of mechanical refinement low is a bit worrying together we do not have much of a dealership spread here in SA.I think my money is safer on a S1000R even though not quite as exotic.
Speed triple?
Yeah they BMW was my fave out of these three
what is the vest that’s being worn in the video? i click the link, but nothing shows up. is it just used for the pockets?
