  • In this video I show you how to make roll-top to side compression straps for your Durston Kakwa backpack. It's an easy modification that you can do without any sewing. It gives your pack a cleaner appearance, better compression and a little bit more volume if needed. You can easily make these kinds of straps for other roll-top backpacks as well if you choose the correct hardware.
    Materials needed for the straps:
    1. 2x 65 to 75cm of 15mm webbing straps (depending on the size of your pack you might need more or less). adventurexpert. com/product/backpack-strap-webbing-polyamide/
    2. 15mm Woojin Dual Adjustable Z Buckle (Spider Buckle). adventurexpert. com/product/dual-adjust-spider-buckle/
    3. 10mm Aluminum Adjustable Clip Hook. adventurexpert. com/product/aluminium-adjustable-clip-hook/

That's a great idea. I'm going to use my Kakwa as a day pack today. These extra straps would be really helpful for smaller loads.

Superior Wilderness Designs has some clip on side straps and clip on top Y straps of various sizes for some backpack brands. I grabbed some Y straps for my ULA packs. LiteAF also has some clip on side straps to add to their packs. Mainly just gotta check the strap width and like you said, find a mating buckle and all is golden.
