@@jf_kein_k8590 hey, if Getafix has an acorn to replenish the Gauls' home forest, then that could mean other magical tree saplings and seeds exist, or can be made through enchanting them
I read that comic as kid and wondered why they never do anything with so much wood.

I love the voice and the mannerisms of the slave
It's even funnier that they tried giving the slaves the most sophisticated voice possible. It's a great art style and I'm glad they didn't try to white wash them to not stereotype

If your using the term White wash to point out the fact the races displayed aren't all White you'd be mistaken as historically speaking African slaves were extremely rare in Antiquity.
Slaves before the slave trade started were mostly pow that got captured and sold. The blacks you might find are the moors.
@@minecraftfirefighter I mean...Slaves throughout history were mostly POW. Even in the Trans Atlantic slave trade there were a lot of POW from Tribal wars against the colonizers or against other Tribes. Good reason not to be a soldier I guess.
@@panzerschiff9805 I'm reminded of when the British Empire ordered an african king to abandon the slave trade, and he responded that he could do anything but that, that it was a point of national pride, that their children were sang to sleep with songs of crushing and enslaving their enemies.

Darn, the slavemaster's name's humor was lost in translation. In French he's called Travaillerpluspourgagnerplus ("work more to earn more"). That was Nicolas Sarkozy's infamous (and arguably obnoxious) slogan for the presidential campaign of 2007.

I always feel sad for the centurion in these movies, he's just trying his best, but so much is against him.
I dont know why people give hate to those slaves. They are my favourite characters in the movie and their leader has one of the smoothest voices ever. This movie is very accurate to comics from what I read in my 20 years since i started collecting them. Maybe English dub did not land but from where i am from (Croatia) dub in our native language is legendary (since we did have dubs of those older cartoons and this one surpasses even dubs of those older once)

The dog's name is Dogmatics? Why didn't they maintained Ideafix has the dog's name?
In order to try and localize the humor, most of the characters were given different names when exported to different countries.
So Idéfix was renamed Dogmatix in English speaking countries.
Lots of characters got their names changed to make a different pun that might sound better in the other language.
For example. The Druid’s name in the original French is “Panoramix”. Which is a pun, but not exactly related to his role. The English name for him is “Getafix”. In order to give him a pun informed by what he does (he makes the magic potion, so he’s basically the town’s pharmacist. They “get a fix” from him when they need to fight romans).
Similarly, the dog’s name in French is Ideafix. A “fixed idea”, or a mild obsession. That isn’t a common phrase in English, so they went with a name based on “dogmatic”. Dogma being a similar concept of an idea that is treated as immovable. That, and it’s a pun with the word “dog”.
You’ll find that the names of Asterix characters (aside from Asterix and Obelix) have a LOT of alternate versions for different languages.

No it isn't, because they want a clear spot in the forest to start to build a great palace, and for that, you need to remove tree

Mostly the Gauls are being jerks to the Romans for refusing to give up their land and hunting spots. IRL, that Gaul village will eventually die from stagnation and poor gene stock.

@@ishouldbestudyingrightnow5368 I did watch it. Several times in fact. And the slaves are faithful representations of the way they were depicted in the comics. The only black one is a Nubian, and you can see even with this clip that he is more elaborate than the others. He makes sure to use precise words so as to be understood by the others, thinks logically and makes sound decisions: for example, when he negotiated with the centurion instead of running away, or when they signed up for the legion.
