- “History is not always a great teacher. Leadership matters, and we are in a crisis of leadership in the world.” CNN Chief International Anchor Christiane Amanpour sits down with Jon Stewart to discuss the unprecedented difficulty in covering the war in Gaza, the squashed Middle East peace process of the 1990s, and Muslim countries abandoning Palestinians. Christiane also discusses showcasing diverse viewpoints and opinions on her show, “The Amanpour Hour,” including one Israeli woman who told her, “We must make friends with our enemies, otherwise we will keep dying.” #DailyShow #JonStewart #ChristianeAmanpour

About The Daily Show:
Jon Stewart and The Best F**king News Team host The Daily Show, an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning program analyzing the biggest stories in news, politics, and culture through a sharp, satirical lens. The Daily Show redefined the late night show category on TV and, with an audience of over 51M across social media platforms, has become a launching pad for some of the biggest stars in entertainment.
The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11/10c on Comedy Central. - Komedie
Jon please invite bassem youssef on your show and interview him about gaza. We would love to see that.
Yes!!
He’s on tour. Right now he’s in Europe but he probably will do this and JRE when his tour comes to America
Agree
Hear, hear!
Yes with Gad Saad
Why do we need to go a COMEDY SATIRE SHOW. To get fifteen minutes of sane, rational discussion on important issues?
Thanks for coming back Jon, we really need you.
Agreed
Because we live in clown world lol
Because Comedians and satirists are much better at observation of the daily world and its facts and absurdities. Since birth. They can state the obvious, which is something our traditional media and propaganda machines will never do . Think about Walter Cronkite, he stated the news, with zero opinion or voice inflection to convey judgement.
The only day he stepped off course for one moment and actually removed his eye glasses, was the moment he had to announce that JFK was dead .
And later on, Vietnam was the first war to air on TV.
Probably for the same reason Christiane Amanpour had to come to satire show to finally start making sense. Maybe Stewart produces some kind of pheromones that temporarily bring some sense into people in close proximity, cause I'm pretty sure she will turn back into her non-sensical self whenever we see her next time on CNN
Maybe because you're ignorant about many fine journalists who do this kind of thing everyday? You won't find them on cable TV.
Jon Stewart pushing the boundaries. Bravo for always trying.
Just barely
Thank you for telling the truth about the atrocities happening in Gaza 😮😢🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
There are no atrocities in Gaza. There is a war israel was forced into.

I actually really love when we can skip past all the small talk and the jokes, and dive straight into a really important discussion of the critical issues. Thank you Christiane and Jon.
On the daily show? On comedy central?? Yeah! Let's get past all the jokes already...?
There's not much that needs discussing at this point. Just say Biden is abetting genocide in Gaza. Neither of them could utter that simple sentence for all the hot air that's been expelled over 15 minutes.
What has Amanpour said in this 15 minutes that we don't already know?
Stop sugar coating this please.
@@crackills1 there are more jokes on all the other news channels than on TDS with Jon Stewart...

Israel is NOT a religion. Criticism is NOT antisemitism. Tikkun olam.🕊️🕊️🕊️
Exactly! And criticism of Palestinians and their disregard for their own civilian lives is not talked about enough.
@@Erik-tu3rw It's all you disgusting hasbarists ever do. You dehumanize them by claiming hey don't value life, and victim blame them for their own deaths.
You mean Hamas, slick?@@Erik-tu3rw
@@Erik-tu3rw wait, didn’t we ALL collectively argue about civilians disregarding their own lives like four years ago for some reason?
@@Erik-tu3rwWhat about Israeli disregard for civilian life?
2023 was the deadliest year ever for Palestinian civilians in the West Bank before Oct 7th.
Why does everyone think this all started Oct.7? How many times have Palestinians lived terrorism against them
They keep ignoring this since 1940s
You mean: how many times has Israel responded to aggression and terrorism by Palestinian Arabs
Then why discuss this issue now if it is happening since 2000 years. Let's talk about it after 2000 years.
That's the true and tried strategy of repeating lies relentlessly so the public eventually believes it!
Plus, Israel specifically does NOT have the right to defend itself under international law as an occupying force.
Thank you Jon for your integrity ❤
We need Jon Stewart’s episodes to be an hour long to have longer conversations and deeper dives in his opening segments

Not Letting world journalists in has a lot of RED FLAGGS
She really exposed her Western bias when she said “there are no journalists in Gaza”
There needs to be a longer format of these conversations! He has such insightful conversations with the most knowledgeable guests!!

Stewart and TDS have literally several....
Depends on the guests too. There have been 20-30 minute interviews/conversations with guests on the Daily Show that get uploaded online.
As an avid observer, and regular watcher of Both Amanpour, and Stewart, I have never seen Amanpour more animated, and Stewart, more observant.....
Indeed. They were well matched and congruent on this "twitchy" topic.

Wth are entitled you even talking about? Colbert isn't pretending to do what Jon does, he doesn't owe you any amount of political activism.
Amanpour says she is gathering "opinions" from all sides but fails to respond to Jon's question on why the news isn't appearing on CNN or her program !

The voting rules of the Security Council needs to be changed by a vote of the General Assembly. No country should have a unilateral ability to veto a resolution in the Security Council. Not the US. Not Russia, Not China. No one.
A UN vote changes absolutely nothing. So the rules to get a vote are irrelevant.
That would be the beginning of the end. Start of ww3. Russia would veto veto veto as well as China and then they change the rules without them and then it's war
They don't care about your opinion...they control what you think...that is the job of he National Seciruty Council. They are the group that TELLS the few families in control of the media what to show you on the media.
We've made it clear that we don't deserve veto power
The original reason that power was given was so that the superpowers had a reason to come to the table. But times have changed, and so should the rules.
Jon Stewart is simply the best! Thank you so much for returning to The Daily Show on a weekly basis ...we need you more now than ever!!!
I don't know about that, but he certainly has a big audience. At least he's not both sidesing the genocide anymore.

Respect to both of you
Finally people not afraid to speak to truth ❤
Hearing the nuance of this discussion it hartens me that it is possible to actually talk about the underlying issues🎉 Jon Stewart we are constantly astounded at your ability to bring the whole issue to the people
Not really, because the underlying issues were not significantly touched on at all, and that's not a criticism in and of itself, but this kind of segment is not suited to a proper discussion. The reality is that there's a lot of context that's extremely important, for instance in talking about Palestinian refugees you really do need to know the history and how that history is conceptualised by different groups.
I'm not going to say "oh it's all so complex" because in many ways it's intensely simple, but without context people are not likely to recognise the nature of the situation. If you listened to this segment without being acquainted with the actual detail you would be reasonably likely to come away with a rather skewed perception. And of course, that's one reason why for so long US media has succeeded in sustaining a particular narrative, because its media has been consistent in recapitulating their internalised concept, without reference to the facts and because their audience, having not ever been educated on the facts are not able to discern how the issue is being framed and decontextualised.
The issue is that you can't have these discussions at all without real clarity about what you're talking about. I applaud Jon for speaking his mind on a topic where very few are doing so, but he does have a rather reductive perspective all-in-all.
@@simonkapadia7582 I can not agree with you at all you used a lot of words to say nothing.
First off John brought into crisp focus the fact that the Arab states around Israel have no interest in policing the Arab extremists that they've created. Many places like a run have totally changed in the last 40 years from an inclusive multicultural diverse system to a theocratic despotism. Looking not just at Israel but at all the neighbors there too is important.
Secondly looking truly deeply at BB netanyahu and his horrifically bad track record it is clear that nothing is going to be done in Israel until the people of Israel are liberated from him.
3rd and finally this is not going to be resolved unless the war crimes on both sides are addressed and prosecuted Yes Hamas needs to face justice but so do the Zionist movement inside of Israel and all of their crimes. Hunger used as a weapon, forced relocation, the genocide of a people... unacceptable

@@alvallac2171 solid criticism/editorializing what have you 👍
I have been under the impression for years that this conversation is not allowed on American television. Both Jon's opening and this interview .. Something ground breaking is happening. The Netanyahu legacy.
After @pple put the screws to him, Jon realized that he needed complete editorial control. Comedy Central was desperate to get Jon back and he leveraged that to get the control he needed. That's my guess anyway.
Even just ten years ago, Americans couldn't say that Israel was anything but splendid. Two words: Helen Thomas. Remember her?
yes! thanks to the young people in the streets and the voters
@anthonytwohill9726 many people say the reason Jon left so abruptly last time was exactly because of his criticism of Israel. When he was coming back I honestly thought he'd be more reserved but I'm so glad he's stuck to his convictions.
The criticism should be of Netanyahu and his government. Tons of Israelis are protesting this war in the streets. The antisemitism I see here is astounding!
On the journalists or lack thereof in Gaza, "It's an Israeli problem, they won't let us in." -Amanpour. And she's absolutely correct. Smh.
Jordan has given the majority of Palestinians in Jordan citizenship. Im surprised Christaine denied that. Almost half of the Jordanian population is of Palestinian decent. The rest of the refugees have to continue to be so, so that their right in their country is not forgotten.
Humanity has already failed us 6 months on, well and truly failed. 40,000 murders in such a short space of time is just beyond tragic and unacceptable.
I would not be surprised if the real number was significantly higher than 40,000. The 33,000 number is over a month old, and I don't think that included people still missing under rubble, all this on top of the famine. I think the final death toll is going to be shocking to the world, and I try to avoid thinking about it for my own sanity.

The protests against the Iraq war were HUGE. I saw this here in Europe on CNN Int'l.
A friend had just flown into Frankfurt from LAX, both airports carrying CNN. He was surprised at how much the protests were downplayed in the US.
He told me "we don't get this information in the States".
Same thing here
CNN Arabic on CZcams exposing IDF cri*mes but when you watch CNN international channel, nothing is the same
The protests in the US were huge. I lived in Seattle at the time. Which had a much smaller population then than it does now. 50,000 people marched on I-5 and blocked traffic for hours. LA, NYC and DC were even bigger.
@@missngfrombrooklynand nothing changed. Real democracy, the US.
NYC had 1million people protesting in the streets. It barely made the news.
Saw the same thing in North America. None of the news channels showed the first day of the ICJ trial where South Africa laid out a very convincing argument showing genocidal intent together with picture, statements, bodies and other evidence.
The next day, they broadcast Israelis reply. Which did not refute a single accusation but went on a atrocity complaint and mentioned Hamas 66 times. Clearly hard to defend the indefensible
It's refreshing to watch a show that not only allows for important conversations to take place but also shed light on the truth.
“Truth”
Christiane Amanpour was spontaneous and being herself.
Very refreshing to see her character and to hear her expert opinion.
I find it fascinating that this clip is getting so much praise when it still stops short of the key issue. All this talk about 'someone somehow some leaders somewhere somehow magically coming together' is kind of..... ridiculous? There is one single person who could stop this with one phone call and that person has signed three bills in the last 6 months approving the sending of 14 billion, 18 billion, and most recently an additional 10 billion dollars to Israel. With zero strings attached. To not bring this up but waffle about 'the brave individuals speaking out for peace' feels honestly insulting. Like yes I appreciate them tackling it at least a little when compared to other media. But come on.
"At the security council, there's a lot of people with vetoes." Um yeah, are you afraid to name them??? It isn't a very long list.

Amanpour lied and said that Israelis changing their prime minister is enough. That's a lie and she knows it. Israelis overall celebrate the genocide and their soldiers many crimes in Gaza.
