Actually there is plenty of incentive to stop the suffering. Like in every war in human history, the losing side gives up and pleads for peace. But in this war, one side hates the jews so much, they are refusing to do the obvious.

@@redscar183 One side has nearly all the power (and is backed by the USA who could end this thing in a day by sanctioning Israel); that same side rejected ceasefire even if it meant hostages returned; that same side has an obvious colonialist agenda that includes ethnic cleansing; the same side that is also run by a Zionist strongman who will never accept a 2 state solution.
The other side are the Palestinians. Including 10,000+ children murdered in the name of 'fighting terrorism'.
I don't condone what Hamas does or the horror they bring onto Israeli civilians, but Israel's carpet bombing response has gone beyond despicable.

@@SashaArsic I did not see any mockery, I saw a man who attempted to educate the masses in as unbias a way as possible by using humor to entertain people while educating them. This segment combined with the subsequent interview illustrated to me that it is the Gazans who are the primary sufferers of the ongoing conflict. Further, he made it clear that both Israel and Palestinian leadership have no real intention of ending the conflict or coming to any sort of agreement given that they both do not support the other's existence at this point, which is ultimately an impossible place to start when attempting to negotiate any two-state future given that both countries have significant populations making it entirely unrealistic to support the non-existence of the other. He also supported a DMZ with the help of other Arab countries. In my opinion, the segment illustrated that the populations are suffering as a result of their leadership, particularly the leadership using conflict to maintain their power at the cost of innocent lives.
Concerning dodging a tough statement, in addition to what is mentioned above, he made it clear that Israel should stop bombing and Palestine should release the hostages. I am not sure what more of a statement could be made other than suggesting that certain people on both sides should be convicted of war crimes for their atrocities, which I believe should occur in the future; however, what is most important right now is ending the loss of life and any threat of coercion on leadership could be a deterrent to that. If you are willing to suggest a statement he should have made, I would happily, consider it, particularly if it would support a path forward that is in the realm of possibility.

Thank you Mr. Stewart (and your team of writers) for formulating things in such clear language.
    * Please, if you comment, let's be civilized, even if I'm completely wrong, which I'm willing to accept, I would like to amplify what he's stating here, not get into a shouting contest.
    9:28
" The status quo cycle of provocation and retribution is predicated on some idea that one of these groups is going to go away.
    And they are not.
If we want a safe and free Israel, and a safe and free Palestine, we have to recognize that reality.
And I know that there is a twisted and much contested history in the region that has brought us to this point.
But we are at THIS point.
And anything we do from here has to look forward... "
As an Israeli expat born in the 70s, I can whole-heartedly say, this has been the position I've been drawn to the most my entire life, still to this day. Up until the 90s, this was even a direction where the internal (and world) politics were heading, and then everything changed (Rabin's assassination is a clear pivot point, but it's a symptom, a catalyst - not the cause)
    11:40
" Starting now, no preconditions, no earned trust, no partners for peace, Israel stops bombing, Hamas releases the hostages, the Arab countries who claim Palestine is their top priority come in and form a demilitarized zone between Israel and a free Palestinian state.
The Saudis, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, they all form like a NATO arrangement guaranteeing security for both sides. "
The real problem with this suggestion, which I LOVE and wish was possible, is that the Arab nations, as clearly stated in the segment, don't care for the Palestinian people. They only care that they are not their problem to solve. (That's the root of the issue for well over 150 years, way before Israel was established - not taking away any blame from Israel here - but the blame is definingly shared here)
I still think that the fighting should stop, the hostages sent back, but I know that the road on the Israeli side, will first start by replacing the overly right wing zealot government that is currently at play (look at the 9 months since the election until Oct 7 to understand that), which - unfortunately, in democracy, is by the choice of the people - this means that the people at this point (navigated by the politicians at power) care more about hating the enemy, than fixing the rapture.
I just wish, when the time comes, there would be a time where somebody on the Palestinian side would be brave enough and strong enough to do the same on their side.

Arab nations do care, governments hopefully care too but can’t tell what goes on behind walls. However, we know for a fact that in the past Arab nations tried multiple time to fight Israel but did not succeed. Personally, I have old relatives who served in the Saudi army that was sent to Palestine during these conflicts.
As a Saudi, I have been raised singing songs in solidarity with Palestine, and this sentiment continues to resonate with me. Despite efforts by Western powers to sow division, our unity in religion and language remains unshaken.

@@TheHedgehogsDelimmaFun is a great key to actually having a serious conversation. If everybody is serious all of the time, then everybody are guarded, closed, shut down.
The most effective method to connect with complex ideas us humor. Exposing the absurd, heads on.
When you try to discuss serious topics in a news segment length piece, whether 13 minutes or 60, you're losing so much context that nothing is accurate.
However, for a 13 minutes piece, this one is actually impressive - he's focusing on the human issue - the one that nobody is talking about, not Palestinians, and neither Isarelis - the Israeli people focus on those that have been kidnapped, while the government is focused on "abosulte victory" - both completely disregarding the destruction on the other side (other than in the context of 'vicroty').
I can't speak for the Palestinian side, because I don't follow it (I don't really follow the Israeli one either, but my peers do, so I'm more exposed)
So I would say, he isn't showing a 'leftist' view, but a human one. And I believe that's the direction we need to take to bring change.

    • @agilemind6241
      @agilemind6241 Před měsícem +4

It's no so much that the Arab nations don't care, it's that (1) they are not powerful enough to take on Isreal so long as she enjoys full US backing, and (2) they have problems of their own. Saudi Arabia is a theocratic dictatorship that doesn't care about the rights and lives of its own citizens - never mind Palestinians, Lebanon has insurgent Hezbolla to deal with, Jordan has spill over terrorists from Iraq and Syria wars, Egypt has chronic political instability due to radical Muslim political groups in the country as well as serious issues with overpopulation along the Nile. Those Arab nations had nothing to do with causing the current conflict between Israel and Palestine, why should they and their citizens be on the hook to fix it? The US has been far far more involved in perpetuating the conflict, why is it not the US's responsibility to stop supporting Israel until Israel returns to the 1967 borders?

Western powers (US and Britain) are the backbone of this conflict hold leverage over many parties in the region. Israel is a colony of the US.
Additionally, the solution should not only be a conversation about *peace* it's a conversation about justice. Agreed! I don’t think the founders ever imagined that the victors of WWII could become complicit in genocide. Here we are. You can’t challenge the U.S. (or by extension Israel), Russia, or China. Almost impunity through veto. It makes the UN so ineffective. It’s heartbreaking.

It's a feature of the UN, it is not a bug.
Think about it: would ***any*** of the five super-powers that existed at the end of WW2 agree to a United Nations system if there was ***any*** chance that this UN system could be used against them?
Answer: No. None of them would have.
So the price of them agreeing to a United Nations (and, remember, the UN was their creation) was that they (a) had a permanent membership of the Security Council and (b) no Security Council resolution would pass if they opposed it.
Again, this must be stressed: that is a feature, it is not a bug.

And there hasn't been another election since. Hamas wants civilians to die. They want the martyrs as a recruitment tool. Israel seems to be playing right into it. Unless, they plan on eliminating the entire population. At this point, more civilians have died in Palestine than Ukrainian soldiers have died in that war.

This is correct. Biden is a self-professed Zionist, and that is a MAJOR issue that reveals him as a contemptible human being. Neither of the monsters in the Presidential election will condemn Israel and neither of them want a two-state solution to this problem. So the USA is being dragged into supporting this war.
