I cannot believe that its been 20 years since Avril Lavigne was catapulted into superstardom! Her music has aged gracefully since, she writes music around heartbreak, anger, vengeance and freedom with her tenacious carefree persona and we love her for it.
I was only 4 years old when she was 17, the first time she released Complicated. She was a breath of fresh air from the teen pop stars yet in 2002 the teen pop genre had started to fade out and the artists of that genre were taking their music in more mature directions.
Olivia Rodrigo cannot compare to this icon Avril is a mood and gives off the best vibes

I'm surprised Head Above Water wasn't on this list. That song is amazingly powerful.
Just as the video said, "Don't Tell Me" struck a chord with the young me, teaching me that just because you love someone doesn't mean you have to give them EVERYTHING. Save a little something for yourself so if they leave you, you aren't left with nothing. Love you Avril!
Avril is a huge ICON who deserves to be honored at the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame and i'm surprise that she's not on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yet

I'm 31, grew up knowing Avril in my teens and saw "Eragon" for the first time a few weeks ago...as soon as the credits came on I started singing the beautiful song!! I knew instantly who it was and almost cried because of all the wonderful memories associated with that song!! (My friend and I were driving our husbands crazy cause we kept singing the song over and over!!)
-"when you're gone" is one of my all time favorite songs!!
-"complicated" was a song that I played over and over and over when my sister's boyfriend dumped her and she began to change in horrible ways....she's never been the same since then and I blamed him when I was a teen.

Damn, Watchmojo, you brought back the 2000's kid in me. I was about 4 when Avril came onto the scene and 21 years later I'm still listening to the new songs and old ones she has. Keep Holding On, My Happy Ending and Alice were my faves as I was 13 when I went to the cinema to see Alice in Wonderland and squealed loudly when I heard Avril's beautiful voice on the end credits.
I put it on at work one morning while we were setting up for breakfast and almost everyone my age or around my age were singing to nearly every single song, the same happened during breakfast and I couldn't help but dance a bit while I was cooking sausage and muffins (I work at McDonalds) making my morning manager laugh at me a bit for being a child again
