Is there a way to communicate with you to ask you a question one on one?
Thank you for filming for us❤❤
Yes, how can I message you. My stepson is now living in the UK. We will be going to go visit soon now that they have a baby. Just have some questions about planning a trip there.
Keep up the awesome job ❤
John, at one time were you a member of the Lifeguards or Blues and Royals ?
Well done for pulling that bloke up on his conduct.👍🏻
Had to be done mate as it was almost embarrassing that he seemed so oblivious. 👍🏻
Thanks for telling that tourist what he kept doing wrong.
Why leave it so late? Should have said something "stern" immediately.
I think John and Buska should say something to these fools. They say it on camera but not to the people
reponsible.
Are you stuck inside again John ? You should have learned by now.😂😂
I love your narrative to your videos as they help me . I live in the states, and am a horsewoman, so I know enough not to touch anyone’s horse. But I’ve learned a lot about the guards and their horses. And there are times I laugh, and other times I shake my head at the stupidity. Thank you, Sir, again for your fine videos. ❤️
My pleasure Ladywolf. Thank you for your kind comments! ❤️
Good on you for telling him what he’d done wrong, I wish others would do the same.
the tour guides (who get paid very well by these tourists) should certainly tell the tourists what is allowed and what isn't for their safety - that not following the Rules and not using some common sense can have some serious consequences -
Best commentary on the Horseguards. Informative, honest, and sometimes very funny. 😆🤣
Only 'sometimes'? 😅😅😅
Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated!
Great timing there to capture the Foot Guard change over and the Box Guards changing. Great to see our wonderful Lady "Karen Slayer" back on duty. How well we remember her and her no nonsense handing of that annoying witch. And yes always hear someone opinionated tell people not to touch the Horse, and even when told the signs says the reins they insist they know better. And well done mate on telling that total idiot NOT TO TOUCH THE GUARD, what a real jerk doing that on purpose and he knew it.Well the week ahead should be a real adventure.
As a retired Army Medic of 22 years I watch mostly because of the precision the PERFECT uniforms and magnificent Horses and TY for you love of The Horse Guards
As always I appreciate your effort and always watch your videos daily they are beautiful and always interesting.
Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤
It was pure luck, but very fortuitous! Thank you for the kind words and for your comments! 👍🏻
Unfortunately the sign doesn't say, "Don't touch the guard", either. But people have to be touchy feely anyway even if it did say that.. because see how many ignore the "Don't touch the reins" sign. And are shocked when they get bit?
Completely agree. It's almost as though common sense is abandoned... who on earth touches ANYONE else randomly when they're working. Yet many tourists seem to think it acceptable behaviour.
I can’t believe the number of people who think it’s ok to touch a total stranger regardless touching a soldier
@@LondonCityWalks I do sometimes wonder if common sense is handed in at passport control upon arrival 😂
You say you've never seen a horse kick. Well, it wasn't a kick I saw, but I remember last year when a Japanese couple were standing nice and quietly next to a Guard and Horse. The man was closest to the horse, which turned and looked at them, then deliberately lifted its right front leg and place its hoof on top of the man's foot. So funny - the man wasn't hurt and laughed along with everyone else. That horse was definitely a joker. 😂
I didn't want to scare the tourists away by telling them that a Guard was kicked just two weeks ago after the dismount in the yard.
Both legs straight to the chest. Fortunately the Cuirass breastplate took the brunt of the force, but the lady guard took a fortnight off.
I saw two horses, during the dismount, kick out at one another. They didn't make contact but they looked like two brothers slapping out at one another.
Oh, I hope the guard is doing OK
@@teresabillings8378 Yeah I saw that too, have to say I couldn't stop laughing especially reading some of the messages.😅😅
@teresabillings8378 Just a few days ago one horse kicked out at the other as they were standing outside the door for inspection before going to the boxes. One was a tad antsy and backed into the other resulting in the kick.
The large 17.3h hands horse is 'Oxford' 🐴👊🏼
How do you discover the horses names etc.
Friends in HCAV. They are permitted to share the names of the horses. 👍🏻
Great name ❤
'Oxford" at 17.3 hands stands 5 foot 11 inches at the withers - Horses are measured from the ground to the highest point of the withers, which is the ridge between the shoulder blades (where the mane usually begins) -
Fun Fact: The tallest horse ever, a Shire called Sampson, was 21.25 hands (7 ft 2.5 in at the withers) and weighed 3,360 lb (1,524 kg).
There’s a good chance that Sampson’s name might forever remain in the Guinness World Records as the biggest horse that ever lived. 😊
Erm...that woman that was bitten? She was American - the sign is in English 😊😅😅😅😅😅😅
Tell me about it, I live in America and it’s like talking to kids sometimes
I love there is someone like you standing up for these guards and horses, defending them from the moronic tourists
My father in law was kicked in the face many years ago by a Clydesdale horse, one of the most placid of horses, he was in a coma for three weeks but luckily recovered to tell the tale but was scarred for life. The public must think these horses are placid and chosen for the public, they are horses on guard duty, beautifully trained but not to be fooled around with. I love the pomp and ceremony we in Britain enjoy and that’s why I love watching this every day (sometimes quite often in a day) not to watch self entitled clowns stirring up the guards or the horses.
Gotta love this horse's playful sense of humour! Just wants a BIT of fun interaction. That woman had no right to be indignant about the nip and is rather lucky it wasn't Arnie or Ormonde. I wanted to shout at that man ...No touchie the blankie! Awesome of you to confront both with their own idiocy. Two more instances of genetic pools that should not be allowed to reproduce. Made me laugh regarding the comment of those taking pics, going home to try to find themselves amongst the throng of people doing same. I would have thought that tour guide would have known better than to hog the sidwalk like that all the while waving her hands to try to hurry them along. Curious to see how people behave when it's raining.
Always magnificent to watch the Royal Horse guards and the majestic horse 🙏Thank you for this video.
Great view today. It wasn't luck, it was your good timing.😊
I so admire you explaining to there tourists what they are doing wrong. What we see as obvious some of these people just don’t understand unless they are told
OMGosh WELL DONE FOR STEPPING UP AND TELLING THE STUPID TOURIST WHY THE GUARD IS MOVING THE HORSE AWAY. This is amazing - calling out the tourist. Ignorance knows no bounds. Enjoying your channel and the side commentaries. 🇺🇸❤️😎👍💪
I appreciate your narrative on your videos. It truly answers a lot of questions. I appreciate that you will speak up to the ignorant people unaware of what they are doing wrong. Some are still going to act ignorant as we saw with the woman and the disabled person in wheelchair. She seems like one of those hardhead entitled people. Smh at least im thankful for your warning her. Thank you for your videos and God bless you for your compassion ❣️
I noticed that it's mainly Men from other countries who disregard the sign.
Thanks for the really interesting info, brilliant commentary.
Thumbs up for that. None of the others speak up for guards. Gurt great. (Bristolian)
Hello from South Ga! Glad you gave that man Heck for touching the blanket. 🤓🦋
Hey LCW, what we would all love is a list of the names of the horses, linked by socks, stars, blazes etc for both the Lifeguards and the Blues & Royals horses.
If you could get the riding guards names, that would be a plus!
No pressure! 🤣🤣👍
LOL! I've been begging him to give us those lists for a while now. It's not like he has nothing else to do!!!!! 🥰
I went on the horse guard website, there r over 250 horses! Live in veterinary care ❤️
They also get a summer break at the seaside, Scotland this year
@@alisonhutchings4690 I’ve never thought to go on the website. Total DUH moment. Thanks for jogging my brain 🧠.
Gidday from OZ. You have the best videos, felt like i was there.
thankyou for another great video that guard looked seriouly pissed at the numpty
He really was oblivious to his own stupidity and the subtle actions of the Guard to avoid needing to shout in his face.
@@LondonCityWalks I would have rather heard her shout so that the other eejit tourists 'got the hint' 😂 thank you for educating some of these folk, you're the only youtuber I've seen do this! 🤩
My Grandson thinks you "kindly" told the man off. He laughed at it . He is 8. Sorry for 2 posts
Well said John.
That man was definitely not the brightest. But hey, wich tourist is?
Bring back the barriers!
I love watching your videos. You explain what is going on. Sometimes you just have to shake your head at some people 😁
Sign should say don't touch the horse...reins and guard.......better just say keep your dirty paws off...lol
Don’t blame some of these toursits with that horse, can see it in the horses eyes, “come on get closer, see what happens, I’m having an off day” 😂😂😂
Hope Ormonde is back.
Very cool video, thanks
I love your videos. You explain things to us and I enjoy hearing your conversations between you and tourists. You have a great laugh.
Very kind of you Amy, thank you! 🙏🏻
HimJohn You did right to tell that bloke not to touch the blanket They are idiots are by they Good for you ❤
I enjoy listening to your commentaries … you have a great voice…
That guy knew I can't believe how effing stupid he was what four times if ever a guard should be allowed to scream at the person it was this idiotic dude. Thank goodness you went to talk to him he still tried to play dumb. Thank you again for your wonderful video absolutely love watching yours, God bless❤
Thank you for telling that gentlemen to stop
Love watching the change overs they,re stunning guards and horses
He is a handsome looking horse, if fact both are amazing well balanced horses. Are they a special breed of horse? Magnificent line up of both lots of Guards ... Kiwi
Irish draught with some thoroughbred cross .
@@kathellison8084 Thank you Kath, I had a feeling there had to be a cross bred, they are stunning horses. Kiwi
The horses of the Household Cavalry, known as Cavalry Blacks, have been guarding the royal family and taking part in ceremonial occasions since the restoration of King Charles II in 1660.
Traditionally Irish-bred in Ireland and are sourced from Ireland, with a mix of Irish Draught and thoroughbred breeding, the ideal Cavalry Black is a mandatory minimum of 16.2 hands high at the withers (officers’ chargers should be at least 17 hands high and preferably completely black with no white markings) -
@@battles146 Thank you for explaining, us Kiwis no nothing about these traditions. LCW has mentioned the height many times, They are superb animals.
Thanks, great vid, never seen through the tunnels before!
"Oh he bit me" .... tough
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽congratulations he bit me don’t go near the horse 😅
Saw something very amusing the other day, the helmet plume was red, and with the beautiful sun shining, the sword took up the red on the blade, it looked just as if he had left a few bodies on his way! If only!
Jeez! Don't move away trooper - just chase the idiot off out of it with a good shout added.
NO RESPECT! Thank you for saying something, this makes me so angry, How would they like it if someone just walked up to them and put their hands on them for a picture!
Well done for telling him.
Enough to frighten a Police Horse and they don’t scare easily 😮
Great info.
PLEASE put the fences back up!
The sign should say DON’T touch the horses & reins and that the horses bite NOT will bite!
Admire your comments on these crazy people looks as though they don't know right from wrong x
I cant quite believe how many parents let their children stand within biting distance of the horse....
It's my biggest fear... honestly shocks me how they simply don't know they're actively exposing their children to potential danger.
Your videos are def my favorite! Especially when you narrate. You have the perfect touch of knowing when to comment and when to stay quiet so that we can hear what is happening at the scene. You were very polite in your advice to the tourist. I live in Texas and we wouldn't have nearly the patience that you kind Englishmen have with others. I saw a video the other day where the Dad took the toddler too close and the horse bit the girl on the leg. Totally the fault of the father, but it was very frightening to hear the child scream and cry. Do you know if the child was injured or just scared. Thanks so much for your wonderful work. My husband yells comments while he is working in his home office and says he is very much used to hearing the bing bong of the alarm prior to changing guard and often comments about your narratives.
Always glad to see my favorite Guard. John is Overlord or Titian bigger. I thought Ormonde belongs to Blues not Life Guards? Am I confused??
I believe that Overlord is the larger of the two horses. Ormonde is indeed a Blues and Royals horse. 🐴👍🏻
Fun fact: the biggest horse ever in HCAV was Goliath: 18.3h. 🐴👊🏼
@@LondonCityWalks Thank You.
@@LondonCityWalks Wow he must of been a wonderful sight to see 🐴 Must of had to duck to get into the sentry box😀
@@LondonCityWalks wow! that's just over 6 foot at the withers! the guard must have had to use a ladder! 😲😄
@@battles146 And a long way to the ground if they fell off 😂
Great job on video you had good timing
If Tourists Have to take pictures, they should Not get too close. At least keep on the outter arches on both sides.
I haven't seen the kings guards for a little while and i see they included " don't touch the reins " on the plaque.. Good idea but It's still doesn't stop some tourist
I would love to see Ormonde brought out when that bloody Gypsy turns up to make herself a nuisance!
That was rude of that teacher.
Keep these people away from the horses, this is not a petting zoo!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
👍👍
before you looked at the number on the hooves 7.43 bravo fir speaking to that man
😂😂horse is peering into your soul😂😂❤️
Hi John ❤
They look down the fence stupid move.
What finally happened to the crazy lady that tormented the guards and horses. They should have never put up with her
That man was on yesterday. I remember him.
Disappearing species, people who care about other people.
Me encanta soy latina saludos desde Costarica
Da hilft nur der Rohrstock.🙄🙈💩💩💩
Most people probably don’t even know what “reins” are.
I have a question about the boots. They sound like there are “nails” under the soles as in loud on the pacing stones.
Keep up the excellent work that you are doing. Great videos every time thank you. I wonder if the soldiers could put up fibre glass that goes around the box.
Fibre Glass what?
I wish they would not have the guards and horses sit out there. It is wrong to just try and please the rude tourists
Is there a lot of Asian decent soldiers in the British military ? Nothing against any race or nationality. Just didn't realize that until I saw 2 Police inside the gates.Any nationality can be a British soldier.
What’s with the muscle men and peace signs these people do,
If they think it’s gonna make their picture look more impressive, WRONG, especially if the horse nudges you, 😂😂😂
Horse and guard always win, they are the peace and muscle in this country
Ow the horse bit me.
Suprise it didn't take a flesh sa3😢
More important, you don’t touch the reins, as it’s taking control of the horse, and not the guard, ?
Loving your videos. Best of the ones I watch. Can you tell me what the difference between the plumes & uniform. How long do they the horses stay before change over. Love the sound of the horses hooves. Cheers from Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👍🏻💙💜
Thank you Lynne!
Uniform:
Scarlet Tunic with White Plume = The Life Guards.
Dark Navy (almost black) Tunic with Red Plume = The Blues and Royals.
The boxman on horseback change each hour, on the hour.
@@LondonCityWalks thanks for answering. What difference between Life Guard& The Blues and Royals . Is one a higher rankings than the other. Please.
@@lynnebunning7273 May I suggest a Google search for Household Cavalry , there you'll find lots of information and history of the regiments , very interesting reading .You'll also find some behind the scenes videos of the Troopers and horses .
What happened to the fences that were up the other day?
They were temporary crowd control barriers for a marathon which passed Horse Guards. Council workers swiftly removed them. 👍🏻
@@LondonCityWalks Thanks for answering. I still wish they would keep them up though.
So the horse can bite the little girl’s leg.
The horse can do.... wherever it pleases. 🐴👈🏼
Thank you for your relaxing informative commentary! Can I ask something? I think I’ve heard you refer to some guards as ‘chits man’ , is that correct? If so what does it mean? Thank you 😊
Great question! So... 'Chitsman' is actually a variant of 'Chicksman'. The Guard on that side of the yard (stable side) stands right next to the door which leads to the subterranean level where Cockfighting used to take place. His original function was to guard the entrance to those pits, hence 'Chicksman' which evolved to become 'Chitsman'. 🐔
@@LondonCityWalks oh my goodness! That’s an answer to which I could never have replied ‘thanks for confirming what I thought!’ So interesting 🧐 thank you 😊
@@LondonCityWalks did you hear/read how that came about? The story goes that a Trooper on guard during the wee small hours was caught napping, the officer asked why he was there and being a little sleep befuddled the Trooper stammered out a story about guarding the fighting cocks which wasn’t really what the officer wanted to hear!
Yes - posted a comprehensive response to a question above asking about the origins of 'Chicksman' / 'Chitsman' 👈🏼
You got nipped because you where too close
Do the horses still work on deep snow days?
Yes they do if you google Horse guards in the snow and then images there are some wonderful pics of them❄❄❄
Ils ne savent pas lire ? Meme moi francaise ne parlant pas anglais le peu que je connaisse je comprends et de plus quel manque de respect pour le Cavalier et son cheval. Tres peu disent merci...
Which reg is Wellington with? He is my favourite ❤
Blues and Royals 🐴👍🏻
Thank you!! ☺ Hopefully he is front and centre soon! Such a sweet nature and so so beautiful, a real treat to watch ❤❤
No Pagan in this group?
Pagan is a Life Guard Horse 🐴👍🏻
@@LondonCityWalks sorry keep forgetting
Where is this? What is this place called?
Horse Guards on Whitehall in Central London. 🐴👍🏻
Often wondered, I know they don’t “smack” the horses, when they dismount, but, that “slap” I can’t think of another word, they do, ???
Why is that, is it to let the horses no there “shift “ is over ????
It's also a signal the rider is dismounting so a change of weight and tells the horse to stand still .
@@kathellison8084 oh right, thanks for that, wouldn’t of that tbh, very interested to know why
That lady guard is my least favorite guard
Konji su kao tuđi auto. Ne diraj Tuđu imovinu. Gledaj ne diraj nije tvoje.Piše na tabli.
I think the guard should have screamed at him the very first time he touched the blanket, but most certainly the second time. I don't understand why she didn't communicate but instead chose to make the horse move. Why should the horse have to move?
I lie this guard. I love them all. But this one, oh wow, he is more stricter (rightly so). Than some of the horses
You so much look as If you gonna touch, he is there
❤gostaria se fosse possivel traduzir o que você tradus sou Brsileira e nao entendo o que você fala ❤
They maybe tourists, but sadly so many of them have ZERO basic common sense, the signs are big enough,
I’m more surprised the horse, which is often quite nippy, has more bad days than good , amd tbh, don’t blame him/her, having these idiots disrespect not just our heroes, (guards),(soldiers), HUGE RESOECT TO EVERYONE OF THEM
But the disrespect they have to our beautiful horses,
If this horse didn’t nip/nudge or bite this guy, he was lucky,
Thankyou for bringing this to this idiots attention, and maybe next time, when rules are in place, FOLLOW them, they are there for a reason,
These horses cost 100,000’s pounds every year,
When the signs say don’t touch, you don’t touch, tourist or not
So hard for people not to touch the horse...just can't stand next to the horse..smile take the picture without hand signs...peace sign.....stupid face motions...stupid poses..
Tourist ttake British people as a joke specially guards
