As a Londoner, it angers me at how disrespectful people are to the guards and their animals. She learnt a lesson that day. People forget that they're not fancy dress, they are real soldiers doing a real job!!!
Other than giving a photo opt, what is the purpose of this moment of standing? I can understand when they are getting ready for the change and need to mov the crowd back, and when the come to check on the guards but just coming out and standing confuses me. Is this some sort of "time notice" for those on the horses? I do agree that so many of the tourist, foreign and local seem to see them as amusement park mascots and are as rude to them as many are to the mascots.

@@jackio46 The reason He stands there is he is a member of the Horse Guards at Horse Guards Parade, there are two sections within the Guard Mounted and foot he is one of the foot Guards. It appears he is just a Trooper so a private solider. However the Guard who leads the Changing of the Guard is a JNCO which is the equivalent rank of a Corporal
Their job is to be a tourist attraction. They are very rarely guarding anything.
I don’t live in the UK but it makes me mad how tourists disrespect your military officers.

They may be used to it but as a Kiwi I find the behaviour incredibly disrespectful. They’d never do that to an American, Chinese, Russian or Japanese serviceman, so why do it to a Guardsman?

Then why in the world do you think it is perfectly fine to link your arm with a soldier that you don't know?!" Restraint and professionalism on the part of the soldier. Pure disrespect and moronic behavior on the tourist! Just once, I would thoroughly enjoy having a soldier draw his or her sword and aim it at the chest of a tourist...just once!! I'm sure she'd scream if the tables were reversed. What was she thinking! Trooper handled himself and got the message across loud and clear. Too bad the police didn't issue a warning about molesting the guards. She needs to keep her hands to herself!

Why can people not just say a simple thank to these wonderful guards and their horses as in it's an honour to be photographed beside you.
I cannot understand why tourists feel these professional soldiers are merely there as models for their entertainment. I’d like to see them try that in their country by walking up to one of their soldiers to get a picture with them without asking first and saying thank you. Putting your hands on a soldier? You wouldn’t get away with that in Canada with our RCMP! These King’s guards are highly trained soldiers, first and foremost, hired to protect the royal family and the nation. Be respectful. Ask first and say thank you.

Better yet, enough with the pics with the guards; just take a pic of the guard and stand off; show some respect. And I would say rather than hired, they are selected to serve.

How embarrassingly humiliating for the King’s Guard to be subjected to ppl who have no understanding of their role as soldiers and protectors of the Crown.
I really admire these guys. Obviously they are great service men and women. But they have to tolerate such abuse. And it is abuse. People have no respect for them. And they have to put up with this for a long time. They are amazing!

Something changed recently. Instead of marching through the crowd shouting Make way, they're slowing their pace and stepping around the gawkers. They apparently only shout if they are physically touched.

Yes I agree, but it’s not just the case of you can’t touch the guard, you can’t do that to anybody. Just because he is standing there in uniform, she thinks she can put it round him. This guard standing sentinel is my favourite. I love the way he walks about emanating quiet authority. I see leadership material here.
He's in a few other videos demonstrating heartwarming acts of kindness to children, offering himself sideways for a photo. Behind that uniform there's a warm personality.

Incidentally they also offer hearing tests, so if you take advantage of said tests you will hear several CZcamsrs mention the fact that the troopers have been ordered to stop shouting at tourists unless absolutely necessary.

Imagine you come up to a person and touch it out of nowhere...that's inacceptable...In germany there's a saying "Nur gucken, nicht anfassen" (literally: Just watch, don't touch). Some people really can't use their brains.

The Kings Guard is the hardest position to ever work in the HRM Royal Army actually. While other positions are serious, this King's Guard is harder due to the capacity they engage with at close proximity with locals and tourists. Much respect to these army personnel.
It’s crazy. I couldn’t imagine invading someone’s personal space, let alone a guard on duty and unable to give consent. And how careless to go even further by touching. Wow. He’s a person. I understand your point about many tourists being rude, but do you understand business and economics? Tourists bring a lot of money into a city by spending on hotels and restaurants and stores and shops and transportation and museum admissions and boat rides and on and on. Tourists may be annoying sometimes but they truly help your town's economy. Here in New York City, tourists bring a lot of benefit to our city.
@@cathynewyork7918 I am a Scot, and yes, tourism is a boost to the economy, but I just wish more would come to enjoy the scenery, the history and the traditions, rather than constantly banging on about "Outlander" and Harry Potter! it is soul destroying that the mighty Glenfinnan Viaduct is gradually being renamed as the "Harry Potter Hogwarts Bridge"! I wonder how many know that, from it, you can see the Glenfinnan Monument, where Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot in Scotland. The worst one was being asked if the shaft in a castle (13th century) which led to the oubliette was where they had the "elevator".

They are first and foremost soldiers, the fact that they were the traditional uniforms shouldnt mean that you can walk right up and put your arm around them. As a tourist I like the fact that they do wear those uniforms, to me they represent England. I enjoyed watching them and also taking a few pictures, but I always respected them. Not just because they are soldiers, but people too. If a stranger went up and put his arm around that woman she would be screaming at him and calling the police. She's just lucky she only got glared at, and not the usual shout.

They need to charge the tourists for pictures.
Rope the area off and $25 for a picture with the proceeds going to animal protection, the facilities which rescue mistreated and abandoned animals.

What is wrong with people? In Sweden , neither horses nor guards are touched. But we can watch from a distance. Why don`t they have a fence around the horse and the guard sitting on the horse, so people don`t get too close? I have been to London many times and I always respect what applies there. Maybe some touritsts should buy a book to read about what applies to where they are going.
I travelled all over Europe and always bought a Green Michelin guide for each country, so I could read up on things I should know before I got there.
