    I really would like to see more videos addressing problem nails like this. So often I see nail enhancement videos that show extensions being applied to perfect-looking nails, and I often think, if my nails looked like that, I wouldn't need extensions! This is why I really appreciate this video and the series with Anna. I hope you will do more of them! Thank you!!!

    Wow, amazing transformation. I did that sort of damage to my own nails in the past when trying to remove all the lifted product. I just waited the 6 months for it to grow out with nothing but a few layers of rubber base coat on top. I found the rubber base resulted in less lifting issues. I did do similar damage to a single nail a couple of weeks ago because I sneezed while using my e-file near the cuticle area. I'm so frustrated with myself about that. Never do your own nails if you're coming down with a cold. 😅

      i did the same to the nails on my dom hand about a year ago. i had my non-dom wrist (left) anchored/resting on the edge of my desk while i was filin off product from my dom hand (right) & the tendon in my left wrist slipped or moved or whatever & i gouged my nailbeds soooo badly. not just once or twice, but *threeee tiiiiimes*! in the *saaaame* *spotttts*! thought i was gonna die. lmaooo 😭☠ so from then on, i only use soak-off products on my right hand, cuz i won't mess with usin the e-file with my left hand. no ma'am! i freakin love to wear a milky rubber base on my dom hand. not only does it look super fresh & clean, but my natural nails are long & strong now. 👌🏽

    Ok, story time - I just went through almost the exact same situation last Fall. I'm self-taught and love my hard gel extensions but I started out with naturally thin and weak nails and damaged them myself over time. I was thinning them out too much during my prep and because of that, I was having lifting issues after about a week of wearing a fresh set. So the lifting caused more damage and then eventually my hard gel just didn't want to adhere because of all the damage. It was a vicious circle lol. So after the nails I did on myself last October for Halloween started lifting after only a few days, I bit the bullet and went without extensions for 6 weeks. My nails grow super fast so that was enough time for new healthier nails to grow in enough to cover over half of my nail plate. I changed up a couple of things I do during my prep and got into a good daily cuticle oil and moisturizing routine and was able to put on a new set in time for Xmas and I'm seeing soooooo much better retention! Definitely a lesson learned! ❤❤

    I had one damaged nail recently. I did light prep and then cured a thin layer of builder gel. I started with my hand just outside the lamp and slowly advanced into the light. I did a very short cure on another thin layer, added a little structure, and then did a full cure, again starting from outside the lamp. I made the free edge equal to the end of my finger so it would be protected from impacts (the damage is mostly at the part of the bed closest to the free edge). I did the rest just past the tip of my finger--I often have bare nails so it doesn't bother me that one nail is a bit shorter. After it grows out some, I'll fill and shorten the others to the same length.

    I'm in process of regrowing my pinky right now. I hit dumbbell during my exercise so hard, that my nail plate separate from nail bed. I had to partially remove it. it is slowly growing back, but i absolutely hate the process, since i always wear my long natural nails. It is my second time with onycholysis, first time was 5 years ago, and it was also mechanic damage.

    I got my nails done for the first time and after two weeks I noticed discolouration around the sides which I realized was lifting and a small case of the greenies on one nail after 1 week and 1/2. Talk about a first experience!
    Then I went to a different salon to get them taken off and… well… my nails looked just like the lady here but a bit worse cause the nail tech even filed off the new nail growth and deep gouges…
    Bad experiences all around but I have not been deterred from getting my nails done once my nails grow out (luckily they grow fast despite being on the thin side!)

    Since I got my e file about 3 months ago, I overfiled my nails heavily. I do them myself and I'm my own test dummy for learning. I just redid everything with hard gel and used the low heat function on my led lamp to avoid burning sensations.
    I wanted to do just an overlay first but I had barely 1 milimeter of free edge and the rubber gel overlay actually cracked bc my nails were so thin and soft!

    Wow! They do look good, my natural nails have always been thin and brittle all my life so far lol honestly when I experience bad damage and it’s not that damage like she had, I don’t ever have that kind of damage. Grow out damage is what I get, like when my peel off base doesn’t get the very tip ready enough for me to use the orange wood stick, if I don’t see it then I can have mail go with the extension and so I have to wait for it to grow out or whatever. That’s what I do, I just let them grow out. Patience.

    Perfect timing! I just took off a set of gel extensions and 2 of my nails have onycholysis from being hit/damaged. Could press-ons be another alternative to growing out the damage, as it avoids putting gel on thinned nails? (Like you said increased risk of allergies!)

    • @Nailcou
      @Nailcou  Před 5 měsíci +1

      In my opinion no, press-ons are not a good alternative in this case, since they last not longer than 3 weeks and you can't do infills on them - you will need to take them off .

    Hi, it's Georgie in Georgia. I know that video was for me because it said it was. I have watched it 3 times, and I'm going to download it so I can refer back to it. Some chemo drugs can do a real number on your nails. I always had natural long, petty nails until I went into total body organ failure due to aHUS. I didn't know I even had this rare genetic disease until I was almost gone. I never bit my nails until then, and when I did, they would peel so deep. I had 2 years of 1200mgs of that drug pumped into me every other week. I've been off it for a year now, but a few are still damaged and very thin, so I just keep them all very short, which is extremely hard for me.
    You just made that young ladys nails beautiful. I really don't trust any one hear with my nails or hair for that matter. I take care of both with oils. I am experienced with an e-file and extremely careful if I need to use it. Lately, I have been doing everything by hand. I do have all the products you just used, so I might try to do that. If not, I will continue hiding my hands and keeping my nails short until they grow out healthy again. They used to look like I had a French manicure. I want them back so badly. Thank you for showing what I can do to make them pretty for something special. I do really want to do what you just did for her. Thank you so much, Georgie, in Georgia.

      A rubber base coat is what worked for me. My nails are extremely flexible, like they don't break they fold flexible, and that's especially true when over-filed. The rubber base has more flex so I got less lifting.

    i have very thin nails. from just a few years of using gel products I became allergic to them. I cant even use UV craft resin.. The ONLY thing I can use on my nails now are the dip system. I even tried using the uv polish on top of the dip powder, but still had an allergic reaction. It made me very sad, because I have so many gel polishes i cant use now.. and I hate the drying time and streaks of regular polish. I wish there was a way to reverse my allergy :(

      Hi may I ask, what is your allergic reaction like? Which area is affected? Cuticle? Sidewalls? Hyponicium? Red? Cracking, inflamed?
      Bcos I seem to have developed an allergic reaction but I believe it's to the LED light... as I can wear full cover gel tips pre-art'd ontop of a soft gel base coat, glued or acrylic attached. So I have found the more often I put my hand under the LED light, the allergic reaction develops. (I am a qualified nail tech) TIA

    Please help/explain why my nails get really damaged after gel. I do gel nails by my self since 2013. I noticed since a year that my natural nail gets really damaged. I prep the nail, clean it with alcohol, don't file hard, sometimes I don't even file the nail. Clean it with acetone. Than put the gel. I used to soak it of evrytime I did another color.
    I stopped that, and just filled the outgrown part.
    After weeks/months I decided to take it all off and go natural. I soaked it off, I was really careful with my nails (no filing or usinga hard tool to take it off). All my nails were brutally damaged, I just don't get it, how is this possible???

    • @ToshaRaeNailed
      @ToshaRaeNailed Před 6 měsíci

      You’re allergic to one or more of the ingredients in these products. Because it’s a personal allergy you’re having my suggestion should you want to try again, I would look up the most common allergies to gels and acrylics. One is the Hema but there are several it could be. You could try to find products that are free of those ingredients (if possible.) Unfortunately it’s trial and error. If it were me, I would try LE gel see how that does you. As for acrylics and monomers, kinda the same thing goes. You can try to find something that doesn’t bother you as much but it’ll be a matter of trying it out on yourself. I know that’s not what you wanna hear. I’ve been there. It really sucked. Luckily I was able to find brands that typically don’t bother me. Like previous mentioned, you could go with glue and pressons.

    • @amandah2866
      @amandah2866 Před 6 měsíci

      The yellowish nails could be from nail polish staining the nails or even some spices can cause it. The cracked and sore thumbs does sound like contact dermatitis which is an allergy. My suggestion is to drown the area in cuticle oil and if you can get some lanolin that will also help, I use Lano Lips Multi Balm when I get an eczema flare-up. It helps heal cracked skin by hydrating and protecting it. If you stop using gel, acrylic and nail polish in a few months you might be able to try using it again but you might not it's hard to say. I'd focus on healing your skin and nails first.
