I realized a scary thing: there's never a repair phase in my country. You go to salon, they file off "cuticles", file off color, paint and cure. and then repeat 2-3 weeks later. So far, i have not talked to a technician that knows about nail repair, they just use harder materials to mask it. x.x And they teaching it so too. Kinda..still same mindset with makeup too-just cover problems with more products.

Nail techs always recommend I should get gel and always always push for me to get dip and say it’ll help my nails become stronger and healthier. I caved once and got dip only to realize they were only pushing it since it’s an extra $50 just for using dip. At first I thought my nails really were stronger, but realized it was only due to the dip product. My nails were in a worse state when it was time for removal since almost no one has the patience to soak off and gently remove the product. 99% of technicians I’ve met always bring out the e file and seem to use it improperly because they’re trying to quickly remove the product and get clients in and out in just an hour. I got gel nails back to back for months. The last time I got gel was in October for vacation, and I removed it right after vacation in November to give myself a break. The nail tech severely damaged my nails and now layers of nail are missing and they used to burn a lot more at first. I looked online and apparently it’s called rings of fire. My natural nails used to be so thick and shaped beautifully and now they’re thin and bendy, which I’ve never seen them this bad in my life. I’m so very glad I found your channel and I do hope my nails will be in a better state in 3-6 months as I’m trying to leave them bare, short, and rounded while growing them out and applying cuticle oil with hot oil soaks regularly.

I have to say I was in the exact same situation as you. I stopped getting my nails done in August and did everything Anne has recommended. For years, I’ve gotten gel back to back. It’s January and my nails have never looked so healthy. I do my own manicures, I wear Dazzle dry, and the oil soaks- you won’t be disappointed

I’ve dealt with the same thing! I have started to be politely strict about what i want. I don’t care how much longer it’ll take, I don’t let them just peel them off or file them off too much. I can understand filing to get the top layer of acrylic or whatever off, but the rest of the additional nail needs to be soaked off. Although yes, i think I’ll take a page from this book and do regular hot oil soaks.

Dip is almost the same things as super glue. I'm thinking more and more, part of it is how well these products adhere to last a long time, that is one reason they cause so much damage.

    • @Meow-io3dh
      @Meow-io3dh Před rokem +5

I’m so so so glad I saw this comment because its exactly my experience, but I thought I must just have bad nails. I always thought and was always told that gel polish was better and that the dip polish would make my nails stronger but each time my nails were worse and worse. They’re so long now, but completely paper thin and fold over literally like paper and multiple are misshapen. My nails burn when i get them done, they just drill off the gel and layers of my nail. I thought that I must just have weak nails. Yours was exactly my experience too, I’m giving mine a break now as well. Cutting them super short and starting again.

Love this one and I think it’s the first time I have heard about the damage that can be done whilst the polish is on. Generally content is focused on avoiding skin contact and damage during removal… this may explain my recent experience with gel….
Ive always used regular nail polish (20+ years) but my nails are so bendy and weak, I am lucky to get more than a couple of days before they chip and then tear down to the nail bed, even if I keep them healthy and short. I tried using builder gel (reputable Japanese/US brand?) on one nail as a test. All ok so applied to others (overlay for strength rather than extension). Topped with regular polish and no chipping! After a week or so, noticed a couple of nails had separated from the nail bed. Carefully removed the gel builder and cut nails as short as possible after watching a couple of your videos on onycholysis .
Fingers crossed that with patience & TLC, all will be ok.
I thought it might be an allergic reaction (booked in for testing) but I had no redness or other signs and after watching this video I’m wondering if it’s because my nails are so flexible, thin and weak that adding a hard shell over the top was the contributing factor… Genetics dealt me a bad hand I guess.

I’ve been watching your videos for a while maybe a couple years. To be sincere some videos I don’t watch because they are too long for me but sometimes I just fast forward and watch some parts of the video😉 I don’t usually comment on social media because it’s like walking on eggs shells. But I wanted to say thank you. I can see from the beginning that you are true, passionate and knowledgeable about your work. I’m the kind of person that listen to many people and try to research what it’s said and mention about the topic. I used to do my nails a lot with regular nail Polish and sometimes I did soak off gel. People complemented my nails and designs that I learn how to create with the help of you tube. But I’m thinking age, hormones and unknowingly bad practices caused my nails to peel off. Since you started these new videos it has help me a lot to follow your advice. I’ve seen all the success on many of the ladies here in your videos and in myself and that’s why I believe you are the one and only knowledgeable and helpful person here on CZcams on this particular topic. I'm new to your channel, watching from the Midwest US. I just started following your recommendations for healthy nails and skin two days ago. I've come to understand I have done a lot of damage and I need to form better habits. Thank you very much for all your insight! I'm hoping to find video on whether wearing nail polish is ok or if it needs to be only occasional. Thanks again!❤

You explained my nail damage to me perfectly! I got impatient taking off my last gel manicure but good to know I’ve been doing the right things since. I found some really good long lasting nail adhesives that protect my nail but I can use any glue if I want. They release with oil from my nail. I just change nails every 1-2 weeks and clean out the adhesive and save them for another round 22:12

Thank you!!!!!!! This was so informative!!!! I’ve ruined my nails over filing and I had no idea!!!! I just kept buying new products I thought were stronger and hold better!! Then I thought maybe I was allergic to gel but it didn’t bother my toes so that didn’t make sense. When you said over doing them and constantly filing them, not soaking product all the time way off and filing instead, I was like ah-ha! That’s me! So now I have to deal with ugly nails for a while but I have to let them grow out!! Thank you!!!!!

You have so much knowledge.. thank you for sharing it all with us. ❤ I am amazed by how much there is to know. Especially the explanation about strong bonded gel potentially pulling off layers of the nail, really opened my eyes. I'm gonna be extra careful now instead of less careful.. having a strong product on the nail really gives a false sense of protection.

So much great info!! Im.a nail technician myself. I even learned some new things from this video. So many nail technicians do nails and do not care at all about the health of the nails. Only the outcome. I've always believed keeping the nails in good health while also providing beautiful manicures and enhancements are both equally important

Many facts on the video I already knew by my own study. But here they were in one place. Everyone should watch this before starting doing constructional nail.
Many thanx to you ❤ I will start oil baths to my precious nails when taking a break between "fake nails".

This is so helpful. My nails started splitting and breaking not long after I started using Orly Bonder. (I only ever use regular polish, I just file to shape them, and I don’t buff.) I was mystified to why my nails suddenly got so bad with normal polish and plain acetone to remove, but if a too-sticky base coat can separate nail layers maybe that’s what happened. I’ve been oiling with jojoba but I’ll try the warm oil soaks. Oh, you wanted to know where we are from. Washington DC for me.

I'm so happy that I came across your video. I'd been using a reputable home gel system and after 6 months of use I developed an allergy to the product, all of my nails started lifting form the nail plate. It took me a year to grow them back to their original length and after tying 1 more time...I'm back to damaged nails (not as severe). I took a lot of time and care, but I think what may have been the issue is the buffing. Your description of how and what it is doing it so detailed and provides much needed information. Thank you!

Hi Toni, sadly allergies don´t go away, they usually get worse. I would definitely stay away from any nail enhancement product except maybe for regular polish.

You taught me how to wrap my edges, that Essie gel couture is not a real gel, that there is risk for allergies with real gels ( I am happy with my 20 bottles of Essie couture and wont be doing gels) and so much more that would make this comment very long, thank you so much for your dedication for our well-being! Thanks so much for the advice you gave and the education on nail care and products should and shouldn’t use. My nails are so horrible. They are splitting on the sides and down the middle. I have cut them off, and I have been using this nail repair stuff. I am going to try the oil soak and see how that does. I will never go back to the nail salons again. I just want them healthy. I stopped going for several months now. I am praying they start to look better soon. Again, thank you.
