I'm spoiled, I had the good fortune to see Michale Crawford, the Original Phantom of the Opera, five times at the Majestic Theater. He was incredible.
It's amazing how cold yet obsessive he makes his voice sound.
While I give him kudos for tackling phantom- this is where his talents truly lie!!
This is terrible
I do love seeing modern actors who are "triple threats," who can act, sing, and dance well. Older generations of actors could regularly do this, but it's a rare trait in modern ones. Banderas is exceptional.
He also plays a mean spanish guitar
hugh jackman can! fellow Aussie.
Jared Leto surely can do 2 out 3 . I don't know if he can dance too because I haven't seen him. But this doesn't necessarily means he can't.
@@designcat2 I think most actors on Broadway and the West End today can do that. Some singers in major roles may have less dancing abilities than ensemble members, but it’s usually a big requirement for either. It’s not a requirement for Hollywood actors, however.
All British stage school students must do triple threat.
HOW CAN ANYBODY LOOK INTO ANTONIO'S EYES WHILE DANCING AND NOT FAINT OR ANYTIME FOR THAT MATTER

Watch the movie, Evita, with Madonna in the title role. Antonio was not overshadowed.
Check out his performance at phantom of the opera he is amazing
He sang "Livin' La Vida Loca" with Eddie Murphy in Shrek 2.
He is also a musician 😊😊
3:38 that frown as he realises they are no longer praying *for* Evita, but *to* her. Subtle brilliance.
Excellent observation!
Is she a saint?
@@KP-ej7gc No. That's the whole point. If you want to know more, google her name.
@@KP-ej7gc No. There have been several campaigns to get her canonised but it's unlikely the Vatican would ever agree. Too many skeletons in too many cupboards.
Now I could be wrong, but I think that’s part of the prayers from a funeral mass in the old Latin rite. I’ll have to look it up later and translate.
Passion in his eyes can melt a women in a drop of a hat

Omg if he had looked at me like that 50 years ago ❤
The intensity he brought to even the quiet moments really makes this.
And those moments when he "realizes " it's more than her funeral.... awesome.
@@artemisofthemoonandhunt1486 and the subsequent subtle indignation as he finds himself among the crowd being swept up in the madness of grief.
Antonio Banderas is perfect for this song, his natural Spanish accents the lyrics perfectly to echo the passion in the music and message.
Mandy Patinkin was probably the best I've heard sing that role
Antonio is sooooo sexy
his body somehow says Look at me without actually saying it tres chic.
He has not only voice, but the passion of this role. Magnificent!
Antonio Banderas is perfect!!
After all these years I still get goosebumps with any version of Evita but Antonio Banderas is the best narator. :)
I didn’t know Zorro could sing! He really has the range...
Man where have you been to find this a surprise?
He was a singer before Acting I think??
Oh, yes.... Se Antonio singing at the film Desperado ... and the musical Nine on Broadway's theater years ago...
@@cynthiagonzales9131 No,he was an actor at the theatre as I know
The first time I saw Antonio Banderas perform was in the movie "The Mambo Kings", starring Armand Assante. While he was a star in Spain, this was his first American film. I was a fan of Mr. Assante (watch him in Rage of Angels; he was a very bad boy in it, but oh so sexy and intense... but I digress), but the true revelation of The Mambo Kings was Antonio Banderas; when he was on screen, you couldn't take your eyes off of him. I knew then that he would be a major star. When he is on stage, you still can't take your eyes off of him.
did Assante sing? I recently saw him in NCIS as la grenouille the frog! Adri I wouldn't mind kissing that one!
Adrienne Fuller I believe he sang in the film, but not solo as did Mr. Banderas. But it's been a long time, so I'm not sure. And yes, Armand Assante is very appealing!
Adrienne Fuller I went back and watched a few clips of them singing, and I think they were both lip syncing.
I have always loved Mr. Banderas acting, dancing and singing but the intensity that he brings to this role makes him perfect for Che. He can act more with a look in his eyes or an expression of his face than most actors can with their whole body and voice.
ALW should do a rerun of all the musicals he uploaded because some came in late...I think we'd all appreciate that
I agree reloading ALW’s musicals that were shown earlier during the pandemic would be great. I can certainly be happy watching them again
Alws final musical is a reworking of Cinderella.
He hasn’t aged a day since the movie 20 years ago. Love this. Antonio is a fantastic singer and the best performer of Ché there ever was
Are you for real? lol He's soon to be age 60. We all get old & he looks OLD. Looks a bit older than his age too. My opinion. But who doesn't love him just the same?

I haven't known that Antonio is such a great singer. Great vocal. I just fell in love with his voice 😍
he sang Phantom of the opera several years ago, might still be on youtube.
He also sing in the movie Desperado
Just his voice??? Lol
Antonio Banderos is a fantastic artist - sings, dances, acts, plays musical instruments. Bonus - fabulously good looking.
Sometimes singing is not just about being able to belt a perfect pitch, especially for a song meant for the stage, there has to be a great amount of acting to make a perfect performance. Antonio is great!
i really liked Bandares in this. I thought he did an excellent job between his passion and his portrayal. And I thought Madonna fit the role and did a decent job, too. It's a good movie musical.
I love Antonio so much

Had a lovely conversation this afternoon about the power of musicals. They tell stories in a different way, but they get you in the heart every time. Evita is no exception. Superb.

@@corvus1374 I think they meant that they had stopped showing Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals on the Shows Must Go On. As they started with just back to back Andrew Lloyd Webber
Antonio is really talented and made the most in this movie. I loved his performance.
First of all I'm all but flabbergasted ! I never new Banderas was such an accomplished singer. Accidentally I stumbled across som of his musical performences. IMPRESSIVE. His voice ranges from the "raw", to the pure, but to see him dancing really brings out his Latin/Spanish intensity. Look at his posture and his eyes, mesmerizing. He would be perfect in a "Paso Double".
Check out Zorro - he does the Paso Double in that
@@designcat2 I know, I've seen it 👍✌
@@designcat2 It's a Paso Doble/Flamenco fusion. God, he was gorgeous in that movie and CZJ was the most stunning woman on earth. Wish they would've gotten together and married...could you imagine their kids? And the whole sword fight scene and the kissing...need a cold shower. Woo.
I'm just amazed by his singing! It's just whoa.
I remember watching this when it first came out on itv and I fell in love with him instantly. What a performer in everything he does!
Absolutely amazing! Singer, actor, dancer, and he does it with style!
I agree, Antonio Banderas' version of ''Circus'' is the best of all I could find on CZcams. He is real, not wooden. He tells the story in his song. And those dancers are fabulous, and that is the work of a gifted Choreographer. The most wonderful dance moves on such a small stage, strangely in perfect harmony with this amazing song that capitulates the entire story of Eva Durate and Evita Peron. Can we see the entire dance? I tried to count how many cameras were used, looks like a dozen at least. The film exists, nad this fam, we fans, want to see it. A 3 minute film to share with the world, please!
He is so incredibly talented! How can one man be blessed with so much?
And eye candy, don’t forget!
Stunning - one of the greatest all time performances. Brilliant Latiin voice inflections and a focused totally believable characterisation. Well done!!!
Magnificent. A tremendous performance. The sound in the hall must have been heavenly.
Antonio is superb. There is something special about his voice - compelling.

Qué buen número de Antonio!
Felicitaciones a Andrew!!!
I love Antonio as Che in the greatly underrated 1996 Evita film. It deserved more attention, but was overlooked and the overrated Chicago was the breakout musical at the Oscars.
I agree, well I loved Chicago, too, but Evita was more my kind of music, and the movie was brilliantly made by Alan Parker! When people say it's impossible for musicals to work in movie form (the recent Les Miserables version sadly being a good example of that), I always point them to Evita. Or rather, I wish I could point them to it, because at the moment that movie isn't even available most places!
yep, Madonna definitely deserved Best Actress for Evita.
BANDERAS É INCRÍVELMENTE FANTÁSTICO 🙌🙌🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
If you missed the movie with Antonio and Madonna as Evita, find it! It’s wonderful!

Grande Antonio Banderas, cómo siempre impecable, gracias por ser tan natural y la gente qué es parte de tu elenco musical 💖💖💖

I love how he dances with his partner, holding his microphone the whole time.
He has the charisma for the movie.the heroine who played evita role compliment him .i prefer him in movies than on stage
Is that Elaine Page singing Evita's part??
yes I think so. Later on she sings it on stage, so why shouldn't she sing it from off?
Yes it's Elaine Paige. If you see the whole show she sings "don't cry for me Argentina" later on
I always wondered why they didn't get Patti LuPone to do it.
@@paulwagner688 Because they had Elaine Page?

Man... I sang this song 14 years ago when I was auditioning for my middle school production. It wasn't even Evita, they just asked us to prepare something to sing. How I landed on this random song from Evita as a 12-year-old I have no idea.

When I saw Antonio Banderas in the movie my mouth dropped open. I was 26 and he was so talented and sexy-just, wow.
Oh what a circus, oh what a show
Argentina has gone to town
Over the death of an actress called Eva Peron
We've all gone crazy
Mourning all day and mourning all night
Falling over ourselves to get all of the misery right
Oh what an exit, that's how to go
When they're ringing your curtain down
Demand to be buried like Eva Peron
It's quite a sunset
And good for the country in a roundabout way
We've made the front page of all the world's papers today
But who is this Santa Evita?
Why all this howling, hysterical sorrow?
What kind of goddess has lived among us?
How will we ever get by without her?
She had her moments, she had some style
The best show in town was the crowd
Outside the Casa Rosada crying, "Eva Peron"
But that's all gone now
As soon as the smoke from the funeral clears
We're all gonna see and how, she did nothing for years
Salve regina mater misericordiae
Vita dulcedo et spes nostra
Salve salve regina
Ad te clamamus exules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes
O clemens o pia
Hail, oh queen, mother of mercy
Our life, sweetness, and hope
Hail, hail, oh queen
To you we cry, exiled sons of Eve
To you we sigh, mourning and weeping
Oh clement, oh loving one
You let down your people Evita
You were supposed to have been immortal
That's all they wanted, not much to ask for
But in the end you could not deliver
Sing you fools, but you got it wrong
Enjoy your prayers because you haven't got long
Your queen is dead, your king is through
And she's not coming back to you
Show business kept us all alive
Since seventeen October 1945
But the star has gone, the glamour's worn thin
That's a pretty bad state for a state to be in
Instead of government we had a stage
Instead of ideas, a prima donna's rage
Instead of help we were given a crowd
She didn't say much, but she said it loud
Sing you fools, but you got it wrong
Enjoy your prayers because you haven't got long
Your queen is dead, your king is through
She's not coming back to you
Salve regina mater misericordiae
Vita dulcedo et spes nostra
Salve salve regina Peron
Ad te clamamus exules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes
O clemens o pia
Don't cry for me Argentina
For I am ordinary, unimportant
And undeserving of such attention
Unless we all are, I think we all are
So share my glory, so share my coffin
So share my glory, so share my coffin
Yep, this was the moment when I fell for him. Wonderful memory.

This was part of the 50 birthday celebration of Andrew Llyod Webber celebration of all his musicals.
How did I not know Antonio could SING!!!??? Incredible.
Avita was Antonio's first singing role. He and Madonna rehearsed before they lobbied the producers Alan Parker, Tim Rice, Andrew G. Vajna, and Robert Colin Stigwood to audition for the part of Avita and Che. It was a tough sell because Antonio wasn't a big draw at the time. Madonna was controversial. Madonna's tenacity persuaded them to at least give them an audition. AND it paid off. The producers saw the chemistry between them and Antonio's Spanish accent was a plus. He had rehearsed with Madonna, which gave him an edge, and with lessons and more practice, they decided he could pull it off. The rest is history... The movie in 1996 grossed 141 million USD equivalent to $229.85 million in 2019.
