    junker drag is my favourite rig from PDD hands down. absolutely legendary and wicked informative build threads online! thank you.. i learned a ton and used everything i possibly could on my build 👍 it’s the closest thing us average joes can build at home is why i think it’s so interesting.. 👍. limit the torque and maximize hp. medium to big single with external gates and nitrous to spool and boatloads to supplement. use a diverter valve/ spool valve possibly to help it light.. if a 12v rod can handle 1800ft lbs?? then build to rev to 5252 and make 1800hp. maybe slap a hogged out warhead on there. i see hamiltons prices recently came down again. whatever you do (twins/single/nos etc) it will be interesting and helpful and much appreciated. love the junker!! .

      @pddofficial  Před 4 lety +3

      The Junker's old stock rods had been to 1950 ft lbs at the rear tire, several times. The worst rod was about 0.002" shorter than the longest rod meaning it was a little bent, but not yet destroyed. I'd say you're spot on with the 1800 ft lbs mark as a safe limit!

    Last engine I built, I welded a hose tail on the oil pressure relief spring retainer cap, modded the piston so dump oil would flow around it to the hose tail and blocked off the dump return to the sump. Connected an oil cooler to the hose tail and a return to the sump.
    Low pressure oil cooler !

    I used to have a lot of difficulty trying to light HX82 singles on the dyno as well. Twins drive so much better unless rules prohibit them they are awlays the way to go for power. That being said an 76mm HX60 is an easy 100hp over that S476

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  Před 4 lety

      There are many models of HX60, but I do know for a fact that Seth Kuntz ran one last year at the Diesel Power Challenge in his dually 12v Cummins and struggled to make much more than 800 RWHP with a 13mm pump and a nitrous kit. When they got home from the competition in Colorado, they swapped out the HX60 for a box Borg 475 and picked up substantial power and run as fast fuel-only with the Borg setup as the nitrous assisted HX60 setup. Not staying there aren't well built aftermarket HX60's out there making serious power, but the one they had was a DOG!!! Heck, even Gale Banks couldn't believe the terrible boost and intake temp numbers it was producing when compounded with a 60mm HX40.

    I watched this with Gale Banks.
    His face was funny when he saw all that soot coming out. 😂😂
    I’m sure everyone knows what he thinks about excessive soot.
    Anyways that oil pick up. Shouldn’t we treat those like air inlets? The less 90 degree bends the better for flow? Or is it impossible with that engine layout to get a better flowing oil pick up?

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  Před 4 lety +1

      There is very little room to clear the oil pan, remain clear of the moving crank parts, and drop safely into the sump. This high flow pickup tube is larger in diameter so it absolutely will flow more than stock, but will it support a 40% larger oil pump at 50% higher RPM.... soon we'll know!

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  Před 4 lety

      We are still in the R&D process, the old springs I used to run would create too much pressure on cold starts to be streetable. 80 to 100 psi hot at full load is a good range for high performance 1000 to 2000 HP.

      All of the 12v and early 24v have saddle jets that feed from the mains and spray the under side of the pistons. On the 2003 and newer models, they added a second oil gallery in the block to feed the 6 "j" jets that spray/cool the pistons. On the old 12v and 24v blocks, the saddle jets are plastic inserts, for the Junker we are testing some billet aluminum jets that have a larger orifice to spray more oil.

    • @pddofficial
      @pddofficial  Před 4 lety

      VP44 pump 24v engines don't fuel well above 3k RPM, so you'll want a turbo system that makes peak power early where the VP44 can still provide maximum fuel delivery if you're chasing maximum power. Our Ultimate Towing Compounds with a K27 over 369sxe is great for low-end power and spoolup. You will peak out in the mid 650 HP range with them, so for more, a 362/476sxe setup would give you the airflow to reach the 700 HP mark, but the VP44 probably wouldn't do it without a heavy dose of water/methanol injection or nitrous.
