    Here in MA Taco zone valves are all over the place. Lowes and HD even sell replacement powerheads and even complete valves. We also have quite a few of the Bell and Gossett mini zone valves, the ones with the red plastic powerhead that snaps on. Even seen an EK system 2000 that was done with all B&G zone valves, B&G series 100 circulator, and B&G bronze series 100 for DHW. Talk about a mix of new and old technology. There are still plumbers here doing boiler installs with brand new Taco heat motor zone valves and 110-24 circulator. Add in a New Yorker CL3 boiler and you have an installation that's all green.

    Put a supply tube down from the top and hold your thumb over it to syphon the water out of the pipe to get the water out.

    • @acrservicesmathewr7565
      @acrservicesmathewr7565 Před 5 měsíci +4

      You can take a pray bottle with the top and put it inside tube and spray the water out as well. The siphon is better for certain areas

    • @PipeDoctor
      @PipeDoctor  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah, that works too but I also like burning it out with the torch

    • @throttlebottle5906

      wet vac and a piece of small diameter soft steel tubing works as well (automotive brake line). I've used that setup through open ball valves to suck the water out and replace failed valves. even on city water, where the street curb stop was leaking through slow and inside home valve failed.
      you can sweat it on with the steel tubing through the inside, with vac. running and not worry about it getting solder stuck inside, don't use copper, because the flux and solder may wick up to it and get stuck.

    Question. If you cut that out and press something in you then have more fittings and cost down the road or can you cut and split the press fittings to swap a valve like you did?

    I have a hydronic system with an oil-fired boiler in my new (to me) house. Single zone and On demand hot water. Taco 007-F5 circulator on the return. Thermostat is OFF but every baseboard pipe in the house is hot at all times. Boiler only kicks on for a couple minutes once it hits the Min and shuts off when it hits the Max but this is happening every 30mins or less. I cant figure out if its the circulator or something wrong in the Aquastat, I can hear the relay clicking before it fires.

    Can't tell you how many of those where someone replaced the valve/ end switch just for it to fail because the stem and body needed to be replaced. Always check that stem before just doing the motor/end switch

    • @PipeDoctor
      @PipeDoctor  Před 5 měsíci

      Me and you both I’ve probably changed 100s of zone valves out because of defective end switches

    I'm more of a "zone with circ. pumps" guy, especially in larger setups, or at least do multi-pumps and zone valves in groups(very large systems). why have a single failure point of one pump?
    granted a single boiler is a failure point. lol it still makes sense for multiple pumps, worst case you can swap a pump from indirect to 1st floor or 2nd to 1st to keep a home from freezing. assuming no parts stocked or other issues.

  • @RGNHomeSolutions
    @RGNHomeSolutions Před 5 měsíci

    Some installers say pumps will last longer on the return side because the water is cooler. I put my pumps on the supply side.

    😂 dang blasted zones can be a serious pain! One might be worry free for 5 years but its twin can get arthritis in two years.. you would think Honeywell would all last the same. BUT a question 🙋‍♂️ how come since you have the tool not use a mega press zone? Mega is longer so can cut the old one out and still have pipe enough to press…
