I honestly think he can especially with how much he’s improved his wrestling. The way he put out Frankie although sad was literally one of the most shocking knockouts I’ve ever watched live. It happened so quickly too. That dillashaw fight could have went either way too it’s good to see him back on a winning streak
He's a hard worker.... And pretty intelligent so I think he will do it.
He could win the belt if he stopped fighting nobodies and asks for a title shot
He's actually one of the most intelligent and thoughtful MMA fighters I've ever listened to or watched.
He really dissects situations, fights, and fighters ---- including himself, when it comes to the good, the bad, and the ugly in everyone and in every situation in the art of fighting --- with a degree of earnestness and intelligence that you almost never hear others do it.
A total contrast with Sean O'Malley --- Sean is an elite striker; but his intellect is nowhere near Cory's --- who thinks it is a "dumb" decision on Cory's part to willingly accept a fight against someone so far below... not understanding that if Petr Yan had listened to Sean's advice, Sean would still be #12 right now, as opposed to be the #1.
Cory's REASONING for his fight with Umar show why he's such a serious thinking mma fighter & that is:
I am going to have to fight Umar --- one of the most touted Nurmagomedov's ---- sooner or later.... because I am aiming to be champ, given my skill sets, as they've come along since my loss to Aljo some years ago. But, if I can't beat the #12, who is only 26, then obviously my skills aren't championship level skills, so I shouldn't waste time thinking about being champ....
I'm a big fan of Umar but honestly I would not be shattered for him to be defeated by such a cool guy as Corey Sandhagen.

The stark difference between Umar situation and Sugar Sean's situation speaks volume what is going around in UFC.
Umar can't find opponents that's why he matched up to Merab and Cory, Where most of the bantamweight division wanted Sugar but he got Yan despite being rank 11 which is same as Umar situation.
Na dude. During that time frame literally almost everyone in the top 10 was booked which is why Yan took the fight. Aldo vs Merab, YaDong vs Sandhagen, Aljo vs TJ, and Cruz vs Vera all took place in the span of like 5 weeks. Font was off after the bludgeoning he took from Vera in May.

Ariel never fails to give a good compliment to the fighters he likes. I like that about him. Cory doesn’t have to do much to get me to like him. He’s so damn authentic and not afraid to be a bit nerdy while also a freaking killer in the octagon. So tactical and his fight IQ is through the roof 🙌🏼

the problem with your point is that in my opinion he is supposed to be unbiased, so when he has a vendetta against a fighter that he does not like, he creates negative narratives about them, use to like him but now I find him disingenuous.
