The map of Dorne explained from Game of Thrones and the books A Song of Ice and Fire Blank map image by - atlasoficeandfireblog.wordpre... Contact ► whycreatevideos@gmail.com Twitter ► whycreator
LF 3400 exactly. Doran specifically tells Arienne that they the Targaryens wanted to exaggerate the populoation since they Dornish/Rhoynar never knelt, and Dorne kept it going to protect themselves. Dorne is a vast wasteland specked with a few small sanctuaries.
@@LF-hj8kk they’re absolutely rich. Not populous but rich. They have textiles industry, are close to the Summer Sea and Essos ( trade routes would flow into Dorne and then to the rest in some cases because of this realistically ). Also they have a monopoly on the citrus trade - a fair priced delicacy in this setting for sure.
My favorite part of the Dornish Master Plan: Quentyn: "Hippity hoppity your dragon is now my property!" Rhaegal: "My goals are beyond your understanding."
"Its a little strange since its called the Dornish Marches" this is similar to the English Welsh Marches and Scottish Marches. Marcher Lord was the title in English equivalent to marquis in French and means Lord of the Border. The Dornish Marches literally means "lands which border Dorne".
@@kerzariz8717 Al Andalus, the Muslim kingdom in Spain, was famously tolerant for its time. It was a diverse place with large communities of muslims, jews and christians coexisting and because it was so diverse, its rulers for large parts chose tolerance to maintain stability rather than forcing conversion.
Dorne is my favourite out of all the 7 kingdoms. The Martells never bent under Aegon. Unlike the Westerland who has their coin, the Storm, North and the Reach with their strength and martial prowess. Dorne survived through their cunning, wit and deception. On top of that, Dorne houses Dawn and the Sword of the Morning. Dorne is truly an amazing state.
Yeah I sorta lost my love for Dorne after reading fire and blood. Their stubborn pride left their home a wasteland and their people massacred. It's the exact opposite or Torrhen Stark the king who knelt, who submitted to save his people from fiery death in a hopeless war. George presented the Dornish wars as completely pointless on purpose, to show the futility of fighting over titles and honor. The Stark king swallowed his pride to save his people and the Dornish sacrificed the people they served for their vanity
In fire and blood it's also stated that the Dornish strategy was seen as cowardly by the rest of Westeros. They lost all honor just so they could remain kings (princes). I don't think they are necessarily heroic
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy I agree that George is making that point but I also think the Dornish didn't kneel in honor of their past. Letting go of Mother Rhoyne to kneel to the people who were responsible for her great downfall. Yeah... I'd kind of have a problem kneeling too. If I come from a culture that was the peaceful bomb & you come from a culture that was slavey trash, I'd do whatever I needed to do so that mine prevailed (even though Dorne kinda turned trash-ish & Targaryen rule became somewhat peaceful). But I'm a straight up Targaryen hater so my opinion's definitely biased lol. Idk man, me still loves the Dorny dogs 💕
colton watson the dornish people fully supported the Martells despite the massive deaths the dornish suffered. You gotta remember that it was the Valyrians and their dragons that destroyed the homes of their ancestors, the Rhoynar, so it makes sense that they would refuse to kneel to them.
interesting that the only kingdom the targaryens didnt conquer was dorne. the valyrians prosecuted the roynar people . maybe the roynar, upon arriving in dorne prepared ways to fight off the valyrians. their early exposure to the dragon lords of valyria may have taught them a lot on how they fought off the targaryens, unlike the other 6 kingdoms
When Aegon the conqueror, Rhaenys, and Visenya attempted to conquer Dorne they only had three dragons, where as when the Valyrians conquered the Rhoyne they had hundreds.
@@samirmuhammad1781 actually tho, the Rhoynar put a battle against them, many dragonlords fell from the sky during the conquest, its said that in the city of Chroyane alone many dragonlords were cursed by the Rhoynar magic and drawned in the waters below with their dragons Not only they were good fighers but unlike their descendants in Dorne they had water mages, so three dragons alone would definitely lose against the Rhoynar cities
"Walking Away" from a fight means you managed to survive. Ned and Howland were the only ones who survived that battle. But you probably already know that.
The Arianne story line is kinda interesting in the books, but it’s still one of the weaker plot lines. It has cool moments like the failed attempt of putting Myrcella on the throne and Arys Oakheart’s last stand, but at times it’s unbearably slow with generally uninteresting characters. Everyone acts like it was only the show that fucked up the sand snakes, but in reality they were never likable characters to begin with in the books.
Really just do every location you can man. I love these videos so much! I really don't watch much CZcams anymore but I always watch these every time you post anything game of thrones lore or maps.
Dorne is literally my favorite plot point in the books. I will never forgive the show for completely butchering it. It’s so complex and so important for the books! Could you imagine if they actually did what GRRM was going with all the Sand Snakes!! Uggggfhhhh! I get so sad!! :[
I love how for a long while, the Dornish were enemies to the Iron Throne. And how despite being so small its so diverse, with First Men, Andals and Roinar, from the essos looking martells to the houses that look like the rest of the kingdoms.
I love watching your videos! The detail and aesthetic is great :) Please make more and definitely do a map for The Iron Islands. Thank you for making them!
Great exploration of Dorne One point tho House Dayne of Starfall are not a first men house They, along with House Hightower, are remnants of the Great Empire of the Dawn, based out of Asshai Cheers
I like your videos. They're very clear and great content. I like how you have the map and content side by side. The Iron Islands would be a great video.
Thanks for doing this. Please note, it's only assumed Darkstar was the one who tried to kill Myrcella. We don't know that for sure. Could've been someone else... It was a very mysterious plot and mysterious how Hotah knew where they were so fast.
Great video. Love Dorne. House Dayne is easily my favourite. Like the theory that they may be descended from a proto-Valyrian race that were one of many from The Great Empire of the Dawn. Their house as reputed by Darkstar goes back ‘ten thousand years, unto the Dawn of Day(ne)s.’ They live in a land called ‘Dorne’. The greatest knights wield a magical sword called ‘Dawn’. They are the Children of the Dawn. Would love to learn more about the other houses like Blackmont, Yronwood and Wyl. They seem to have fearsome and bloody reputations. Edit: I also fully embrace Darkstar in all his edgy glory. #FreemyboyDarkstar
most of the art work mistake dorne with Indian and middle east culture, even place like India exist in far away from westros, by the words of GRRM dorne is inspired by Andalusia in the medieval ages
but that region of the iberian peninsula was heavily influenced by the Muslim caliphate. What you get is a merger of western European and central Asian cultures.
@@djayt1215 Hollywood or west generally didn't try to understand eastern cultures at all. its all the same to them and people believe so now, "the Muslim caliphate in Andalusia" was expansion of the Moorish(Morocco) civilization who was closer and more influences to European than east, for example curved sword didn't existed in West north Africa until Europeans passe it on after the fall of Andalusia.(curved sword originate in japan)
I loved Dorne, and im slowly getting to the audiobooks. I felt they really should/could have done a great deal but then again I loved Sir Arthur Dayne even before we some them on the show.
Hey, love your channel. You might want to invest in a pop sheild. As your audio has popping all over it. They are pretty cheap and will eliminate the popping from small bits of saliva hitting the mic. Look forward to more.
I'm late - but also happy that you did all the Kingdoms. Plus Beyond the Wall. It's more logical that way. Now, go through Essos culture by culture :) Alsothe Rhoynar, though their homeland is no more.
Iron Islands, please. I think they're very interesting. Could you also talk about Victarion Greyjoy? I like Euron's character in the TV series (his actor does a great job making him both hilarious and evil), but I think Victarion is much cooler and far more intimidating.
I'm interested in knowing about everything Game of Throne related. Tell about everything! The Gray Joys aren't my favorite people but I still want to know more about them !!!
Dorne in the books: vast, rich and populous
Dorne in the show: a small shack of a palace with 5 citizens total.
It is less populous than the Westerlands, Reach, North, Vale and Riverlands.
Well they completely scrapped the Dorne plot. But the only part of Dorne we see in the show is the water Gardens.
they are neither rich nor populous in the books btw
LF 3400 exactly. Doran specifically tells Arienne that they the Targaryens wanted to exaggerate the populoation since they Dornish/Rhoynar never knelt, and Dorne kept it going to protect themselves. Dorne is a vast wasteland specked with a few small sanctuaries.

Dorne is like morocco and spain mixed
Andalusia
Moors
Almoravid and almohad

Iron islands but also the Eyrie
Thanks for these vids
Do the Vale and the Westerlands! plz

Great vids love the info
Dude, you are really awesome. Love all you GOT videos!! Thanks for this one!
You'r awesome! Would love it could do Iron Islands!
Italy, the most southern tip of the European continent looks like a boot. Dorne, the mouth southern tip of Westeros looks like a foot.

A video on Cyrodiil would be amazing ;)
You should do a video about East Essos the Kingdom of Yiti and the Shadow lands I've always liked hearing about the far east lol
Tbh I thought that Ghasten Gray (sorry If I spelled it wrong) is in Dorne too. It is one of my favorite places in Westeros :)
Iron islands For sure Bro Please 🙏 continue this great Work 💯
Have u done Essos yet! I feel like that one would be interesting being 'The Motherland".
Nice... Do a video on The Vale of Arryn...
Yes Iron Islands I'd love a video on that pls
I feel like the storm lands are least most popular part of westeros, so a detailed map there would be nice
Do all the regions! Iron islands next the do essos!!!!!! I like your videos!
Iron Islands please. You are awesome dude!
I want to know more about that sword from starfall it seems very unique and interesting like what it was forged from it's actual power etc
Could you do a detailed map of each of the great castles of the seven different kingdoms?
The reach
Darkstar probably didn’t cut Myrcellas ear off. He was most likely set up by Doran as a scapegoat.
Yes do the iron islands there is some mad stories there in the book like Enron’s crusade
Eurons
Dorne is like Spain 🇪🇸
The fact that they were the only ones not conquered by dragons even so much so to kill them. Made them the most intriguing to me.
This area is based on Cornwall, a peninsula in west England. Its sandy, an some key names are the same. ~ dorn / corn
I believe that George RR Martin thought on Spain when he wrote about Dorne...
House Uller is one of my favorite houses. They are such a combination of weird yet terrifying.
Do you have a video on The High Tower? Not Old Town, The High Tower itself? That might be kinda cool.
The only 3 good things about Dorne subplot in show- Oberyn Martell (who is one of my favorite characters), the music and the fact that it ends.
Iron Islands, please. I think they're very interesting. Could you also talk about Victarion Greyjoy? I like Euron's character in the TV series (his actor does a great job making him both hilarious and evil), but I think Victarion is much cooler and far more intimidating.

Yes, do the Iron Islands.
The Welsh marches are in England, it’s referring to the country for which you’re creating a defensive zone.
yes yes do the iron islands!
Iron Islands don't interest me dat much. I'd rather like to see one for the reach or stormlands. But so what you like it's just my opinion :)
What about detailed maps on some parts of essos?? 🙇🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Do one on Lovecraft's influences on GOT!
Did that iron islands vid come out?
