5:06 I LOVE this tip, so simple yet so brilliant!
I have a tip for you for labelling supplies boxes etc - if like me you’re writting isn’t so good especially on small items, or your spelling is t so good! Look into these some can do larger labels for letters etc and link to excel files too, but I got a smaller version called a Phomemo Q31 from Ali express and a official Phomemo seller called zodi official store the Q30 Q30s and Q31 are all the same just look different, Phomemo themselves were so helpful and quick to reply to emails. It’s been a godsend for labelling small seed bead boxes, and more. So simple to use as well, I looked at loads but none said they could do rotated text and continuous labels so I went with the Phomemo. I only bought the printer to start to see but now ordered additional labels. A good tip for you too and it can be usb or aaa battery. 😊😊😊

As always, wonderful tips! FYI I use strips from sticky notes to measure for bezels. I cut the sticky notes in strips from the sticky end to the non sticky end. You can start with sticking the sticky end to the stone and then wrapping and marking. Makes it a bit easier for me to manage. 😉

Twist ties are a brilliant idea! I normally use scrap copper/brass wire and they get work hardened so quickly!

Loved it! Very helpful. Thank you. In my Facebook group someone was moving and used plastic wrap to wrap her dremel attachments so that she didn't have to take them out of the display just to move. Held everything in place and when she was all set up in her new place there wasn't any set up, all she had to do was remove the plastic.
Right, let's try again, hopefully this response stays up! :) I really like this tip and I will keep it in mind for future! It would've been useful when I was packing my stuff for moving few days ago! :P I ended up just putting all of the attachments in the little container. Your videos are so inspiring, I started watching your videos because they are all so pleasant to watch, but now I’ve actually bought some tools and metals to start trying metalsmithing. I actually make crocheted jewelry and run a small web shop in Singapore, and I’ve always been using ready made jewelry findings for them. And now i’m thinking of making bezels for my crocheted charms after i’ve practiced and get good enough. Thank you so much for your sharing and detailed tutorials. You have a really big heart! 🥰💐

I love the card sleeve idea! I have had so many gemstones get chips or scratches. I have some opal that I bought where the seller sent them stuck to some cardstock with double sided tape. I ended up putting a couple of my other opals from another seller that arrived the same day on the same card to keep them together for the time being. I suppose I will just get some of those sleeves and do it with all of my other stones. Thank you so much for this!
So happy you like it Kat! Thank you so much for watching. And I agree with you, the reason I use these little cards, even if not is the sleeves, is because of the little scratshes that may occur. Not every gems is resistant and hard enough, some are very soft and can get damaged easily. I'm sure this little trick with cards and sleeves will help you protect your stones. The binder might be a better solution to store the sleeves, this folder that I have, I'm not 100% happy with it haha

Love the pill containers for storage, I'm sure if you wanted to you could wipe off the days of the week using rubbing alcohol or acetone!

Hiya Lady Stardust, and yet more wonderful tips, and tricks. I love the pillboxes, I use them to store all sorts, and then put them in clear plastic draws in a frame. I may put more than one in a draw if they are similar, just need separating a bit. Like different types of ear wires, together, yet separate. Love the cardholders on sticky tape, perfect. There's a man, I think he's called Stephen Goldsmith(?). He's written a book on polishing and does work for people like The Royal Mint, for tumblers he recommends running for four hours, then cleans everything, re-setup, including another teaspoon of barrel bright, he says don't use dish soap, then run for a second four hours. Outstanding finish when I did this!!! He's got a blog on Kernocraft. Great information. A real master at polishing. He reckons there are no shortcuts to perfect polish, other than getting someone else to do it for you... Hehehe. When I did this for a friend's silver wedding ring he kept on about how it was better polished than when they purchased it from a jewellers shop.

Basia you and other jewellery artists inspired me to start making silver things. I didn't expect that gemstones are sooo beautiful and unique. I decided to start with wire wrapping as it is a little cheaper. And I hope and I want to start making videos too. But I'm from Russia and I have no idea should I speak English or Russian 🤔 wish it would be the biggest trouble 😂

@@luinstudiothat is one of the beautiful things about this channel, how kind and helpful so many people are to all of us. Because of my problems with spelling etc, I use an app but I've forgotten what it's called. That is one of my problems with memory loss. It begins with a 'B' and the level I use is free. It has helped me a lot, allowing me to write from the heart, to get a good flow of words, and thoughts going, then go back after and correct spelling and grammar mistakes. Basia, and I both started making bead jewellery, a nice coincidence, we've never met, and only talk online, but so many of our ideas are the same that we seem to gel. The road to becoming a goldsmith is a long one, and the tools and supply are not cheap, but by shopping around, but not buying 'Cheap' powered tools like flex shaft, by looking on Etsy, and local re-sale sights you may find what you need cheaper, but not cheap! Read every book on the subject you can find, watch CZcams videos, some are very good like this one and another I like is Lorna Romanenghi jewellery. At The Bench has a lot of older videos on how to do things, but are very dated and not always the best production. Soham something is very good. I'm traveling to Glasgow in Scotland in August, and September for lessons at a college there, they are worth looking at too, They are 'Vanilla Ink' I'm doing wax carving a ring, a one day course, then stone setting, a weekend course with Scott McIntyre. He has written a new book on stone setting that I love, he is very, very good.

It's so annoying, it's clearly some bug on the site, but it's frustrating. Anyway! What I wanted to say is that you idea is awesome and that I think it depends on who you want to reach, with whom connect and where they are (as an audience). I would recommend English, because you're reaching much broader audience and you can always add Russian subtitles. I had the same issue when I first started and decided to go with English. Many Polsih people watch me in Eng, but I will be also adding POL subs in the near future. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I hope mine stays up this time ;) xxx

I find the pill container idea for my various grit polishing flex shaft bits too limiting. For instance if I want to use my yellow bit on a Wednesday as it is in a yellow Tuesday container I have to wait nearly a full week and some containers indicate evenings on a certain day, I am busy with kids and making dinners etc on evenings so I virtually get no time at all to use those grits. Sure things are very organised but at what cost ?
I used to measure bezels with masking tape :) Paper annoyed me since it was moving but masking tape worked great :) - but also, you should be careful since it's thin and metal is thick :)

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing I hope it is gonna work :) Maybe you can use 2 layers of it too, so it is thicker :) And I also recalled another tip. Maybe it was already mentioned but if someone doesn't have so called third hand, u can use the type of tweezers that opens when you press it (they have wooden handle) and put there another tweezers. It is good when you need to hold it in a certain position 🙂 I used this at school because our school had poor equipment and sometimes when the ring had complicated design, I needed it. I still think that getting 3rd hand is not expensive, but if someone doesn't have it, this could help. Also, with tweezers people should be careful, because some of them can drain the heat from the fire and the silver or other metal does not get the heat it needs for soldering. So our teacher used to tell us we should not use those tweezers with wooden handle. If you are holding the bigger object like making a ring, its fine. But for small pieces it might be really hard. (But I used those tweezers when I wanted to attach the wire, so the oposite end of the wire did not break or melt while i tried to solder it, because the tweezers were taking the heat. Maybe I was just lucky with those tweezers, i don't know 😅 it need a myth busters). Btw, do you have any tip how to attach those tiny silver balls, for example to the flower shaped metal? I've been using soldering paste, but sometimes the paste melts badly/flame moves the beads so it's not where it was supposed to be and when you need it to look even, it does not look nice😅 Or only patience can help?😄
Great videos! I have a question, can you bring rough cut stones to a jeweler and have them polish them? I was able to grab some garnets and they are definitely rough.
It depends if that jeweler is working with gems too. It's different skills and not everyone does both. It's best to ask! The person that does this is also called lapidary artist. Many jewelry makers do cut and polish stones themselves or have someone in-house who does this. So yeah, just ask and I'm sure they will tell you 🥰

I was just thinking, you could wrap the tumbler thing in some fabrics to cushion, and put in your washing machine along with a small load
It's the steel shot, preferably, stainless steel that burnished the silver, and made it shine, with help from the barrelbright soap. One of the acknowledged experts on polishing, he does work for among others, The Royal Mint, recommends tumbling for four hours, clean everything, and redo for another four hours. It works, it takes it to a different level! Steve...
That's an interesting idea! The steel shot would probably need to be smaller, so it wouldn't be too heavy! Don;t want to damage your washing machine :)

i got 14 guage sterling wire and medium silver solder and tried to make a simple stack ring and CAN NOT get the solder to melt in the joint! i used aquiflux. turned the lights low to see the temp of the metals ... idk what to do. I've messed with it for the past hour and am putting it down now bc I am frustrated to the point of tears. my IG is mixedmediaartgirl if anyone can please help
I know how you feel...there's plenty of reasons why this might be happening:
- your metal isn't cleaned enough (it's good to make sure all the grease is removed and it's squeaky clean)
- the edges aren't perfectly flush - there's a gap
- if the solder doesn't seem to melt enough and flow, it could be because of the solder. I used to use medium solder and I stopped, before I lost my mind. The one I had just wouldn't flow!! Try with hard or easy solder.
- the silver you have isn't silver (I know this one is the least likely, but it happens - if you purchased your metal from some shop online, ebay or craft store. Sometimes they arent sterling).
- are you using flux?
Other than these, I'm not sure what else could be causing it... I hope that cleaning, making sure there's no gap and using different solder will fix the issue. Good luck!! You can let us know here how it went! In case someone has a similar problem xx

If you are absolutely positive you have nothing - really NOTHING else to do (shake those jump rings to groovy dance music)!!!! Make sure you are charging your business for all the time you spend doing this!
