It all began one fateful day.
Our little friend was on his way.
To fight some bugs and gain some soul.
But this was not his only goal.
This little knight would try his best,
In saving all of Hallownest.
From many shops this knight did buy:
Iselda, Salubra and Sly.
With a map from Cornifer.
The knight was able to endure.
And then the knight did have desire,
To claim all of the Grimm childs fire.
And after this you'd ask what more?
A lot of spinning blade parkour.
Now with tthe help of Hornets aid,
And the knight's new sharpened blade.
He fought a battle quite intense.
He did defeat the Radiance.
And even after all this shown,
He's still our one and only Deerbone.

Here's a Tl;Dr of the lore, for anyone still confused:
Long ago, the bugs were simple-minded and worshipped the Higher Being of light known as "The Radiance". At some point, the Pale King (another Higher Being) came, and granted the insects here sentience. The bugs began worshipping him, he founded the kingdom of Hallownest, and The Radiance was slowly forgotten. For centuries, Hallownest thrived.
But The Radiance grew angry for being rejected by the citizens of Hallownest. She began infecting the minds of the insects there, and soon all of Hallownest began to dream of her appearing to them as a bright light. Eventually, these dreams broke the minds of bugs and enslaved their wills to her. The King and his subjects resisted this, and it manifested as "The infection".
The Pale King then set out to create The Vessels - his progeny placed in the Abyss to be killed and infected with Void (The opposite of Light). These beings were genderless, void constructs. The idea is that Vessels, having no mind of their own, cannot have their will broken by The Radiance. Thousands of Vessels were created, until the Pure Vessel was found - The Hollow Knight. After this, The Abyss was sealed, and the vessels abandoned, bringing great shame to The Pale King.
The Hollow Knight, raised by The Pale King in the White Palace, had The Radiance sealed inside of it, before being entombed inside The Black Egg. Peace returned to Hallownest.
But - their purity was misjudged, tainted by "An Idea Instilled", due to the bond they formed with The Pale King by raising them. The Hollow Knight resisted The Radiance for a very long time - it's never specified, but presumably centuries - before it was able to overcome The Hollow Knight entirely, and begin infecting the minds of bugs again.
The Knight (the player character) is one of these Vessels, discarded by the pale king and abandoned in The Abyss. Depending on player actions, you can either replace The Hollow Knight inside The Black Egg, or unify the power of Void and finally defeat The Radiance once and for all.
There's plenty more lore, of course - I left out everything regarding Hornet (The Knight's half-sibling) and Godseeker content. But that's the important stuff to understand the overall story of HK.
I’m not very knowledgeable about this games lore, but not all bugs worshipped the radiance. Only the moth tribe worshipped her. Other tribes had their own higher beings to worship. For example the bugs of greenpath worshipped Unn, and I think Hive Queen Vespa is a higher being. Other than that mostly accurate
Quirrel said at the beginning of the game that the dead shouldn’t be burdened with their weapons, and that they should be allowed to rest in peace. Quirrel left his nail and willingly left himself vulnerable to violent bugs, he went to the blue lake in the sky 😢

Congratulations on beating radiance!!!! Now if you want to keep going there's a place in royan waterways(on the left part) that you are missing, is the hardest part of the game. So you can play there while you wait for silksong. Also, if you want to understand the lore of Hollow Knight Mossbag is a CZcamsr that has the best explanations, a reaction yo his video could be something really fun to watch.

There's a mod called Pale Court , introduces 5 more boss fights and 5 new charms , and a parkour area in the abyss , that you need Dashmaster for
I reccomend playing it after the pantheons tho.
And it's so well made , easily could be content made by TC itself.

Heres a little bit of tip for the pantheons: abuse the ever living sh!t out of the descending dark and its i-frames

@@flanbie4780 yeah true, but this is an ending which technically kills the infection. Not sure if that's why everyone considers it as True ending
I firmly believe Silksong will be released in 2055 because 55 looks like SS
There's a secret room in the Weaver's Den you missed earlier. The room with all the boss statues in Godhome also has a secret room. You can use the Tram while carrying the flower. After 2 Pantheons you can give the Godseeker (whom you just freed with the key) a flower. Emilitia and the white Lady also have extra dialogue when giving them flowers.
There is a secret Mr Mushroom ending if you find him and talk to him in several locations in order. you need the spore shroom charm for this. In the bottom right of kingdoms edge there's a thing you can read for hints to those.
For your next (steel soul?) playthrough:
You can leave Zote to die to the vengefly king for an achievment.
You can let the nailsmith live (you monster) and he gets a happy ending.

Here is something for you that you will enjoy! There is a super hidden "thing" in godhome where all the boss fights are. If you go all the way to the right that is a super hidden thing in the ceiling that is an "ordeal" to get to. But I promise there are 57 (or more) reasons to check it out ;) I think I've given enough information without spoiling anything!

Also against Radiance, if you have the DreamShield and Radiance does her Light Orbs Attack, in the first second that the orb is created the Shield can Block/Dispel the Orb. But if it has time to form completely it will pass through your shield as if it was nothing
