Dr. Jelly the Hentai Dude.
The fact that Joey was a fan of Felix and now they live in the same country and make videos together sometimes. Really brings this full circle for Joey.
i love them!
they were good friends with each other even before felix moved to Japan lol
I mean Felix subbed to him when he made anime content more often
i think they hang out sometimes off camera now
the fact that I was a fan of Mrbeast and now we live in the same continent tho
Now we just need Garnt to complete the trio
Edit: Chris would be a cool interview too
yes.
Was Shibuya Kaho interviewed?
I don't think so, but I'd love an interview with her too!
Id like to see him interview Chris and Natsuki just chillin the the background doing whatever he wants.

How does Anthony keep pulling off the most unexpected crossovers
Well that’s what happens when you create smosh lol
He was in trash taste and Connor was a guest here so it's only a matter of time for the rest of the bois to join as well
Next guest: Shadman 💀
he just has a good logistics team that analyzes what youtubers are trendy
@@IG_ArticleParticle I thought u said The Sidemen but yeah both too xD
The lack of sarcasm in Japan was an adjustment when I lived there. The first time we stayed at a hotel with an in room onsen, my young son screamed and cheered soon as he saw it. The bellhop was so confused when I turned to him and said “Sorry, he hates onsen.”
Literally just recently I made a dry sarcastic remark in Japanese and the person I said it to took it seriously and I had to immediately clarify that I didn't and that it was a joke. Jokes do exist in Japanese but dry humor is not a common thing I guess.
😭😭😭😭
@@rinesserin I do not think sarcasm exists in Korea tho. They normally get offended when you make jokes and become sarcastic even though that is NOT considerably offensive and rather teasing others. They def have no concept of sarcasm
definitely and obviously no American sarcasm as you Americans grew up with, American-centric is BRUH💀
@@ryana5435Irish sarcasm is savage
I did the research:
Joey uploaded his first interview video (not called 'I spent a day with') on the 9th of December 2016 and Anthony uploaded his first on the 12th of August 2017. So Joey made his interview video first, but Anthony uploaded his first 'I spent a day with' video on the 6th of February 2018 and Joey uploaded his first on the 13th of July 2020. So Anthony was the first to name it 'I spent a day with' but Joey was the first to make an interview style video.
cool cool cool cool
Thanks for your service o7
Thank you for clearing that up, I needed to know the lore 😂
But do you have the receipts !? Yeah, that's what I thought
Technically Anthony did interviews with Smosh as early as 2012
I love that Joey is repping the Family Mart socks 😂
Need the Vesci's he wore to Garnts wedding to complete the package.

I never liked the “where do you see yourself in 5 years” question, because life is fluid and we can’t see the future. I think what are your top 5 goals would be a better question.
Especially when you're fresh into the work force just living day to day lol. I remember being unsure about what situation I'd be in a month from then.
I didn't know what I wanted until after I was out of school and had worked multiple fields and even now it's still hard to think that far ahead for myself.
That’s my mom’s favourite question. She doubles down and asks me where I see myself in 10 years
I'm ok with the question because i think it's ok to not know the answer but it's interesting to guess.
I used to think the exact same way until I realized the importance of it. It's not about your fixed goals but rather hey have you ever thought about your own life and know what you are doing? Makes you realize what your heart truly feels.
Exactly!! Also you feel more eager to be productive and achieve long time projects if they are divided in sets of goals.
Wow! Props to Anthony, who has a great understanding of the English language, never knew the word "Dapple" or "Dappling".
Komorebi = the light that comes through the leaves of a tree.
Dappled light = is produced when sunlight passes through the leaf canopy of a plant.
Im curious to know where are u in the world? Im im england and dappled/ dappled light is used pretty common but ive seen several comments saying they havnt heard the word (i love people are excited about learning it, its a cool word) I know im dumb so it isnt that my lexicon is diverse with uncommon words
Just goes to show that English is more expressive than you think, albeit still not as expressive as Japanese.
@@Rissen_ Yep, always a pleasure to learn something new, it's what some of us strive for in life! I'm in California, US. It's weird, but it's not a common word/phrase used where I live. Mostly because we don't dabble in specifically with trees much, but we do all sorts of outdoor and nature activities.
@@TBTapion Yep, also as Joey mentioned the pros of both English and Japanese language/expressions on what they have and have nots.
Isn't dappled light referring to the spots on the ground and komorebi to the light-rays?

I could listen to Joey talk all day, it's just the way he is able to engage you in his stories and his insights, it's incredible.
Go to trash podcast. Joey and Connor and Grant are cool to listen.
@@DemicaSmall I know you're talking about trash taste and just trying to shorten the sentence... but at first glance it does look like your dissing them by calling it a trash podcast lmao
@@DemicaSmall Don't worry, I have been a listener since episode 1 haha
Their podcast, Trash Taste, is always playing on my background when I’m doing chores and work. I love their dynamics and topics, it’s engaging and funny.
He's so Australian, like his entire energy and the way he handled the neighbours complaint "fuck no we were louder" very very Australian 😂🇭🇲
I've heard people say that Joey's Japanese is like dictionary-level impeccable, but he often misuses words in English, so I think his Japanese is probably a lot better than his English.
To be fair, I think that’s the case with a lot of native speakers as well, mostly because we play by ear a lot. People who learn another language, especially those who learned structurally, have a tendency to know grammar + word use better than some native speakers
I think living in Japan for so long would effect his English vocab. I know he's around a lot of English still for work and stuff but I'm sure it still has an impact. That was my issue when in brasil fir a few years studying
No, he misuses some Japanese words too(he is the most native sounding person who didn’t grow up in Japan that I’ve ever seen though). Being perfect at two+ languages is just near impossible
I did a research paper in Uni about sarcasm in Japanese. Like Joey said, they have it but don't use it often. Also, we use sarcasm to bond with people, and in Japanese, it's used in a more antagonistic way.
I like to say that the Japanese do have sarcasm, but they don't really dig on verbal irony. Sarcasm is usually defined as being denigrating or mocking, while verbal irony isn't. It's the difference between calling someone Einstein as a sarcastic insult and calling a rainy day a lovely day to go suntanning. The first is sarcasm, the latter is verbal irony.
yes exactly to poke at you essentially as a person who knows English sarcasm its hilarious to hear and VERY good sarcasm but its because its so harsh and so antagonizing like you said
i dont know why but seeing joey being introduced as joseph bizinger is hilarious
wait till u hear his full name... Joseph Tetsuro Bizinger the sixth
I mean that's straight up a jojo name
In visiting Japan, we had a random older Japanese man at a bar approach us to practice his English and I just know that must have been way out of hot comfort zone it was just so sweet
They say the first 5 years of a child's life is some of it not the most important part. And the fact joey got to learn Japanese and English would have really helped him in so many ways. Mum and dad should be proud.
pro’s and con’s L2 interference can cause speech delays
I will say German does have formal and informal way of speaking like how Joey described Japanese. We spent half of semester in my german class on the different pronouns and conjuction you have to use when talking to superior versus a friend. I remember seeing a story of a man who was robbed in germany and the man seemed to be a non native speaker since he keep speaking formal to the person he was robbing, basically say,"Good sir please give me your wallet!". Its very confusing for everyone in the class who all spoke languages that didnt have that system(most of us were only english speakers but a few were bilingual)
As a native German speaker with intermediate Japanese, you’re kinda right, but Japanese is even more intense. In German you have mostly informal and formal but in Japanese you have way more levels
@@ChaosCause3000 I'm not that deep into my own Japanese study yet but from what I saw so far of Keigo, translates pretty well into German, you might need to shift a word here or there but in general you also have different levels of formal and informal speech.
I noticed foreigners to german struggle with this especially at first in school since there can be a complete mess of a blend between friends, teachers or dont care about getting respect and the ones that wish you would adress them as the president of the world.
So far most if not all of what I saw with Japanese grammar has one way or another to translate it into German, some systems are just used differently in each language.
But also mixing Kanji and Context based conversations in, definitely doesn't help making it easier.
Joey is just such an insanely good talking partner. This episode went so fluently because this almost just feels like you two talking rather than an interview. Thanks for the video!
Japan is loaded with so much culture not related to anime and I wish more people understood that
I don’t want to live in Japan, but many beautiful things exist there for sure.
I think the issue is that people only get a specific view of Japan, especially through anime. I’m actually not sure if SOME people would care about Japan if it wasn’t for anime. I try to be more interested in learning about Japanese culture, though it’s not something I really seek… from my perspective I’d probably learn more if I visited Japan, but there a whole bunch of steps I’d want to take (like learning basic Japanese) before doing that
It's extremely unfortunate that anime was the thing being exported rather than... most anything else.
It feels so surreal to see them both in the same room conversing with each other
You should've seen the Trash Taste episode they had together! 😀
I never seen a better example of "brother from another mother" IRL
A stereotype that grates on me a bit is when people claim English isn’t expressive. It’s all about the breadth of vocabulary you know; metaphor, simile, wordplay, and tonality add flavor. It’s not a language lacking in depth, rather, often times (like any other language) it’s the people that speak it lacking in depth.
Yea I'm not supposed to like English, as a fluent Welsh speaker, but the English language has so much depth. The accents and dialects in the UK fascinate me and the way people, use it. I think this is the main reason English has caught on around the world rather than brute colonisation. Japanese people who fall in love with English say they can be themselves when they speak it.
I agree but I thought it was ironic because I feel like Japanese is way less expressive then English.
I miss the anime content Joey makes but his challenge videos and interviews have been fun to watch. I hope he eventually sprinkles in anime content when he ends a good subject
Anthony is like a big brother to Joey when they interact, it's so wholesome.
Just need Garnt now to complete the Trash Taste Bois 😂
Joey rocking that FamiMart socks everywhere now
i find it funny how joey tried to give an example of a word thats one word in japanese and a bunch in english and anthony came up with a one word equivalent immediately. id like a new example please!
"CEASE AND DECEASE MOTHERFUCKER!" we come a long way, guys im so proud
Joey is such a real one, truly a great ambassador for us Aussies
I don’t like having a lolicon as an ambassador
I've been studying Japanese for almost 3 years still learning so much especially due to having ADHD it makes it a little harder to do lessons, but I absolutely enjoy all of it 私は日本語を勉強しています。and Anthony and Joey, ありがとうございます for everything you do! ❤
I did the same thing. I switched to sign language bc of my ADHD and picked it up INSTANTLY. 😂 good luck with continuing with your Japanese!
Firstly, excellent interview! You two have excellent chemistry and play off of each other so well! Secondly - most languages that aren't English have words for sensations and situations that in English would amount to a sentence, or a paragraph even! German has that MAJORLY in common with Japanese, even! It's also funny to me that when learning Spanish, they said that the formal and informal words weren't super important in conversation - but in Japanese, it's ESSENTIAL.
I love these twos energy together. Shows that they are actually just friends irl.
Joey is just such an interesting person. Been watching him for years and even though the content has shifted I honestly think he’s such a great talker he could do any kind of content and be entertaining. Also he’s gotta do more vids with Pewds!
I guess the best way to describe "Komorebi" in english is "Dappled Light" which is still 1 word longer.
as someone who speaks three languages i really felt what joey said about not finding the right words to accurately say something in another language without losing the meaning
I absolutely am loving this video. I discovered Joey through Aki and i have read a few mangas Joey has recommended in the past. He really is a great man and it shows how much he loved and admires the Japan culture. I hope to someday in the future visit Japan at least once.
1:25 It's funny he mentioned that. There's a CZcamsr called "Mr. Anime" who shot his mother, father and brother. Some people were confused and thought that Joey, The Anime Man, was the one who did it
Love how this interview doesn't even talk about anime. Just like Joey's channel and the trash taste podcast. Living up to the vibe
It’s so nice of Joey to spend a day with Anthony Padilla😂
Now he needs to interview Garnt!! 😂
It is called "dappled light." It's impressive that he knew that.
Another word added to my dictionary lol
I watched this interview after Connor's, and I must say that we need a Garnt interview!! It would complete the trio 🎉
Can we get a TT episode with Anthony on it? Maybe even Ian too? Like honestly, these guys are such a vibe.
anthony is in ep 110 already :D
@@rye6307 WOAH that was a while back than
Turns out Joey is just the protagonist from Mob Psycho 100, but instead of telepathy it's with sarcasm.
When I first started watching more and more CZcams in around 2018/2019.
Joey was one of the first channels I subscribed too and I'm happy to see that he's still going strong!!
I'd say that English is a language that has many specific terms, but simply don't use them. this is why we say primary and secondary vocabulary. while you could be using these specific terms, most people wouldn't understand you because the terms aren't universally taught. and Japanese might use those types of terms and words more frequently. just a guess tho. coming from a Swede, I find many words that describe detailed things but they just aren't used daily. Here in Sweden, many old words are set aside for modern English slang. I think we should bring back overly specific terms.
This was such a chill interview I loved it it was so real and it actually teaches me quite some things❤
I love this Anthony x Joey interview!
I relate so heavily to not really knowing my identity and being called different nationalities to what I am 😂
I'm studying Japanese and doing a student exchange in Japan, I can totally relate to this video.
definitely can feel the culture difference in many aspects for example: I'm a touchy person, Japanese people aren't, but I love to make friends here and learn things beyond the study books
so excited for assumptions!! and great interview as always with joey, love it!!!
23:10 I love this aspect of certain languages so much. It's so beautiful and fun and cool which is a huge encouragement for me to learn the language even if not fluently
The awkward kind of stare at the end was perfect
Gotta admit, never heard of dappled light before this myself. But I feel like Joey might never recover from learning this word exists in English hahaha!
really engaging interview thank you 🙏
Very cool interview!
Now let’s ask the real questions: do the interviewed people sit in the room when Anthony does the sponsored segment?
I think they used to, because sometimes they’d chime in. But that hasn’t happened in a long time. Based off that I’m assuming not anymore
Joey's the type of guy to reveal Japan's darkest secrets
I loved this interview !!
Omg two of my fav creators togetherrrr~!
The expected crossover we didn't deserve but definitely needed.
This was so beautiful, awesome and hilarious, especially when you started competing for the rights to "I spent a day with", that killed me, your personalities are so similar, bouncing off each other, it was great. I haven't watched Joey in a while, and this was really cool to see, not because of him, just fell out of watching him, and getting busy with things.
Excellent conversation! I learned so much from this!
2 of my favorites, i was waiting for an ep like this. Get on ya Joey
This was such a fun interview to watch! Gotta wonder though, since all of Trash Taste were in the States doing the tour for their podcast (plus you already released your interview with Connor aka CDawgVA), did you record this interview on the same as that one? And if so, can we expect to see one with Grant (aka Gigguk) sometime in the near future?
Letssss go Anthony!!! Have fun watching everyone!
Anthony was right about the closest word in English for komorebi being "dappling" or "dappled light."
Ooh I loved the assumption videos, so glad they’re back
I knew you were gonna do the Trash Taste boys BUT I AM STILL SO HAPPY! Grew up watching both of you aaah!
I can get that feeling of isolation and aversion to anything foreign. IDK if it's the same in Australia, but at least from what I've experienced in the US and read about, American society does have that same aversion to outside ideas and cultures. It's just that instead of all outsiders, society moves and changes who they hate. I highly suggest reading on the immigration of the Germans in the early colonial settlement, very interesting stuff, especially when you compare their treatment to the slaves that would come some 200 years later.
I think because America is so big and has basically 50 small countries (states) itself, it's hard for people to sort of narrow down "Americans" as a whole. I grew up and worked in the Northeastern US and the majority of people know languages other than English (and usually it's not just Spanish or French or German, but it's like Thai, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, various African languages, various Native American languages,) and a lot of it is due to how fascinated people are with other foods and cultures and how diverse the US is in allowing access to foreign media. Anime/manga, Manhwa (Korean) and Manhua (Chinese) have all blown up in the last decade especially though like Funimation, Crunchyroll, and webtoons where people WANT to learn more languages and cultures to be able to understand cultures beyond just a piece of media translated in English. I'm purposely learning Japanese so I can understand beyond what works for an English translation and it's so great to watch something in Japanese and know there's a meaning behind stuff
honestly Melbourne is very multicultural so similar in that it depends ^
Agreed
What a great interview!
Didn’t know Joey but loved this interview, definitely going to check out his channel !
I love that Joey is repping the Family Mart socks
I feel like I'm watching 2 Jojo characters have a casual conversation together
i would really love to hear more of joeys opinions and comparisons between Japanese and Australian culture. especially around the social and loneliness aspects
Love Joey! Glad he got to talk more about himself and his journey.
back then if you tried searching up anime recommendations, joey’s channel always appeared. it was sort of unavoidable that his youtube channel would appear a lot in the “anime” search on yt. i gave in one day & watched an anime recommendation video of his. i would say that he is partially the reason how i got into anime just because of his explanations, he put a lot of anime & manga fans onto really good anime back in the days when there wasn’t nothing else to do but escape in youtube & cartoon animations
Dappled is good adjective to attach to the light you see on the ground to explain komorebi in English - but it's not specific to 'the light filtered though trees' only.
Like, you can have a dappled patterned fur on horses and other animals, also in art on canvas, etc; dappled can apple to a lot of things because it's a pattern of something, not the only thing.
Love the interview though!
7:46 wow you had a similar story to Gab! That's actually so cool dude I love people who're willing to go through that (its a lot)
This is my favorite interview by far
15:15 XD "OH he's Nihongo Jozu"
JOEY ROCKING THE FAMILY MART SOCKSS , damn fashionista.
What a great interview
this was so great!
also anthony doing the eyebrow thing at the end was so funny
Being a foreigner in Japan was really weird, they accepted me as one of their own but I didn't speak Japanese back then, it was wild
That’s very interesting since I hear a lot of stories of people going through the opposite. Not that they were “unaccepted” but definitely not treated as their own. Still having prejudices
The fact that I watched most of these major shifts in his career happen in real time, just showed me that I spent way too much time on this platform.
Me when I see pewdiepie and/or other CZcamsrs get married and start families after watching them for almost 10 years 🥲
Finally! Was waiting for this! Let’s stayyyy. You know instead of saying let’s go.
I haven’t seen any of Joey’s content in years but absolutely loved his videos many many years ago when I was super into anime. I’ve grown out of anime tbh but now that I know he does other content, I’ll definitely check out his channel again.
