- Can you really make money buying and selling motorcycles on Craigslist? Today on Jon's Moto Garage we continue on our search for the ever elusive Yamaha Bolt. Will this be the one? Let's see how she rolls!
NOTE: Technically, this is not the death wobble. After doing my research, came to find this is the classic "headshake." Semantics, my friends.
Specs: 2015 Yamaha Bolt C-Spec. Clip-On Bars, GP Slip-On Exhaust, Death Wobble.
Most of us have swapped out the stock steering bearings with All Balls Tapered Bearings. Makes the bike handle and track incredibly better.
That seems to be the concensus I'm finding. Gracias!

but it still wobbles?
Bartek Baro the bike in the video is a used one I was considering buying... the bearings haven't been swapped yet on it.
Changing the tyres to metzeler cruisetec has been incredibly helpful. Highly recommended.
I'm a member of the Yamaha Bolt group on Facebook and they say something about tapered bearings that fix the problem.
I read something about that as well...will need to do some more research. Thanks!
James N Can anyone join the bolt fb group? I need to get on that.
Ya i have a 2014 r-spec and it does the same thing. I was told it was very common. I was also told a new tire might fix it. But I have not tried that yet.
Thanks for the insight. This one has new tires (Michelins w/less than 1k miles). According to the seller, it's just as bad as it was before. Again, only if you decide to take your hands off. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I should buy it...
It did for me. Michelin cruisetec with correct specs was very helpful.
Hey, the death wobble could be an unbalanced tire or a bent rim. More often than not, it’s the balance. Probably need to have it rebalanced and add a counter weight or two.
Thanks for the info! Apparently it's super common on these yamaha bolts (not only the c-spec). I've heard for some, it's a matter of new tires or re-balancing. This one has new michelins. The ultimate fix seems to be the head bearings. I have a set, but haven't switched em out yet. Thanks for watching and commenting! Ride safe, brotha!
For me it was the tires. My bike had a crazy wobble, after getting good quality tires it went away instantly.
My bolt does that too. I think the bolts wobble if you have a tire that has a center zig zag line in the tread design. Like I have Dunlop 404 and it wobbles too
Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I also hear that new head bearings resolves the issue.
Idk man that's a weird thing a bike should be doing from the factory
i have the 2015 cspec annnd a 2014 base bolt and both do the death wobble. cspec for sure does it more often. mine doesnt do it at higher speeds. also the valve checks for bolts are every 12k. very easy to do but fyi.
Good to know regarding the valve checks. Not sure if that was done or not on this one. And also good to know this isn't the only one with the "death wobble." Still on the fence about whether or not I'll buy it... Thanks for checking the vid!
srk cycles was testing one, his bike did it too same speed
Yeah, seems to be most of em unless the head bearing is replaced. I'll have to watch the srkcycles vid. That dude is hilarious.
I’m thinking about getting a motorcycle but I’ve never driven or even rode on one, would this bike be a good beginners bike ?
Yes
Probably the greatest beginner bike just never take your hands off the handles and change the bearings out to tapered bearing
Not with wooble 😊
What exhaust is on that bike
My r spec does this but not as aggressively
Change out the front tire.
The front tire was recently replaced. I think the head bearings are the ultimate key based on what I've researched. Thanks for checking the vid!
Can anyone share some tapered bearings brand oand links? I need 1.
Is that exhaust too loud?
I would never buy a bike with a death wobble! WTF! I don’t care if it’s the bearings or the tires! If I buy a new bike that does that, I did not buy the right bike! What else has a wobble that I don’t know about!?!?
Exactly. It's indication of Yamaha cutting corners in the quality department. And that horrendous speedometer!! WTH was Yamaha thinking!?
hello for a tall person could be uncomfortable?
How tall? And would it be for short rides or long distance? I'm 5'8" and I imagine it might feel a bit cramped for taller riders, especially with the mid controls. Forward controls might help a bit.
@@JonsMotoGarage I am 1.85 tall and weigh 92 kg
@@pinotino6349 I would definitely try to sit on one or take one for a ride first. Might feel a bit small for you, but hard to say for sure.
Why would the wheel wobble like that?
Apparently it's a common thing with the bolts (and with some harleys and other models). The fix all seems to be replacing the head bearings. Hasn't been an issue for me (I ended up buying the bike) as long as I'm not riding no handed. Lol. Thanks for checking out the vid!
Easy fix
You are having fun dont you? You repeated it way to many times to deny it
crazy portuguese Lol. Hey, they're a blast!
A bad front shock can cause wobble
Shit tire. Apparently a nice Michelin fixes it.
The bike actually has a new Michelin. I hear that replacing the head bearings is the fix all, but with some the tire will resolve the issue.
80 mph,and anykind of crosswinds, and you will experience the wobble.i did.funny how my Hayabusa can reach almost 200 mph
With out any kind of wobble, shake or sketchy effects.because it was built correctly.im dissatisfied with my bolt.its a granny cruiser.80 hp.of farts.
That’s not a ‘Death Wobble’…my ‘82 GL500 does the same thing, if I go no-handed. A Death Wobble is virtually uncontrollable.
WTF
My Sportster 1200 and my Triumph Scrambler do not have that wobble. The Harley is a 2005 and my Scrambler is a 2006. Shame on Yamaha
This is not an issue you should always keep both hands on handlebars but if people want to show off driving on hwy with no hands on the handlebar they stupid. As long as you keep both hands on handlebars you'll never get any death wobble.
