- Today I'm teaching my brother-in-law, Bo, how to build a bike. As someone who has never built a bike before, Bo has lots of questions that I didn't think to answer in previous bike builds. And Macky says he's not going to say anything!

SWEET! I've been anxiously waiting for Syd to fix more bikes and y'all couldn't have made a more ideal video for me.
My man said "tube....full?" This was wholesome & fun to watch. He did a great job
I loved this video. Bo has such a great sense of humor. Here's a tip: You can easily check the sealant in a tire by putting the bike on a stand, removing the valve core, and using a zip tie as a dipstick. It is dry here in Colorado, so we check every few months.
As someone who's been fixing bikes since the mid 90's and everything is second nature to me, it's always fascinating to see how totally new mechanics look at solutions I take for granted.
Excalibur for the win! Great video! And I bet Bo loved building this bike with your help! You guys are a big reason why my son and I did our first build for his new bike this summer. And then one for me. You made it all understandable. Thanks a ton!
That's awesome!
Loved this video! More sibling guest appearances please 😁
The moment Syd pulled the brake without a tyre in.... My heart stopped beating for ten seconds
There were brake shims, don't worry 😜
@@sydfixesbikes that's why the wheel didn't spin freely? 🤓 Sorry I liked the video. I'm a nitpicker 🤐
I really dig the color scheme of that bike. He's getting a good one.
LoL "half of the internet just died because you just touched the rotor" :D
He was killing me with the different bike part names at the beginning! Great video!!🎉
Great effort Bo. Syd guiding you on your first build. Well done and thanks for the entertaining video.
All fluid resits compression. Brake fluid has a higher boiling temperature. So you don't get bubbles as easily. Bubbles / gasses are compressible so you would get spongy levers etc. 😀
This video is very helpful. Like Bo I have ridden for ((let's say) a number of years.. Two years ago I bought my first hardtail mtb. I'm not familiar with all the new gismos. This has helped me a lot. Thanks!
Love your vids. You really do a great job explaining the process, Thanks a lot.
Loved the video! Keep up the good work. Very informative and entertaining.
Awesome video and very informative. I hope he really enjoys his bike
What a video and nice conclusion by Bo. Greate Good!
Watching all of this was FUN! I was actually changing a tire on my road bike while watching/listening. :) Also, seeing you adjust the rear derailer makes me want go with electronic shifting.
Did you ever try a bowden tentioning plier? Costs 10 USD and makes adjusting the shifter a matter of seconds. Set, Squish, turn bottom gear screw to desired point, tighten cable holding screw, release, set top gear end point. Done. No barrel adjusting, no re-loosening of cable fastening screw. My Record to set up shifter from out of the box to perfect shifting is 2 minutes.
Syd you are a brilliant teach ! 🎉
Love your videos man, hope you have an Awesome Christmas!
Tighten the steering stem together with the wheel while standing on the floor, and the bearing tension must also be adjusted there, otherwise it will hang!
You have an informative and at the same time funny channel here! Great!
I left a subscription.
Best regards André
The student has become the teacher. Way to be Syd!
Bo fixes bikes. Nicely done.

Hello from Bucharest România 🇹🇩I watch all.your video & I learn more about bikes!I have Cube Analog 26 hardtail & Merida 120 400 full suspension 29 2022😇
Fun video. Great watch :)
How is Park Tools not sponsoring your shop? You should have the entire collection hanging there!
Thank u!!! Love this video and prefer your style. I would have bought online had I had this vid and saved a couple thousand. Next time. Thx😊
For a cup bleed on Shimano, use a hope bleed cup, they thread in perfect compared to the plastic Shimano one
Pretty sure they’re sponsored by Shimano, tho
@@GHinWI still a good tip for everyone else 👌
Yey! For those of us. I built a new bike and after 5 rides the bike develop a creak coming from the BB area. I have done everything you can think of, regressing the BB, checked the direct mount chain ring, head set, set post, all pivots, rear shock, rear cassette, rear hun and all these I have done about 3 times. Today I did everything gain, and replaced the sram BB three times and now installed a new Chris king BB. If the creaking does not go away I am not sure what is happening. Btw I have built the bike with SRAM XX1, AXS, and X01.
BB threads are NOT designed to prevent loosening when pedalling (think about it, the BB loosens in the direction the cranks spin). BB threads are designed so that the BB doesn’t tighten solid if the BB seizes.
I've done most of these steps but not all. This was a fantastic end-to-end tutorial but not mired down into too much detail. BTW, can you recommend a good mini grease gun? It was like the most frequently used tool in this video, and I can see the clear benefit.
This is the one we use: amzn.to/378km3X
Like for that part where you call him out for touching the brake rotor :D
Thank you both for your excellent videos. I recently purchased a second-hand Trek 1.1 road bike at a real affordable price. However, the distance from it's seat post to it's head tube / headset is far too long; whereas, my butt barely reaches the seat. Question: How could I lessen that distance to comfortly ride. I estimate 2 maybe 3 inches to sit comfortably. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Unfortunately there's probably no way to get it to truly fit you if it's that much too big. Anything you do to try to make it fit (shorten the stem, slam the seat all the way forward) will negatively affect how it rides. Not trying to be a downer, just would hate to have you spend a lot of time/money trying to get it to fit and then ultimately have it not work...
Things you could do:
- try to find the correct size for similar to what you could sell this bike for
- try to find the correct size frame for a reasonable price and put all the parts from this bike on that frame
Good luck and Happy New Year!
Bravo Zulu Guys and Gals! Keep Riding and Be Seen!!! OORAH
Great video! Park tall has nothing on you guys. BTW what is the green tire inserts called?
Those are the Vittoria Air-Liner: czcams.com/video/bAvvc64INSg/video.html
Hi. Just want to ask if what do you do with most of your builds? Do you sell it? If so do you have frame full suspension that you are selling? I would love to buy one. Great contents by the way. Im also new with building mtb.
These are our personal race bikes. You can check out our race channel here: czcams.com/users/sydandmacky
How many Nm should the bolts that keep the brake housing to the fork be? I tried to find a number online but can’t find any (I’v gone for ~3 Nm atm).
Not sure if the exact number, but I suspect we usually do more like 5-8nm
I like how the camera man seams more qualified than both of them
You should watch our channel trailer (czcams.com/video/yizxxFW7-Qg/video.html), it explains that the idea behind this channel is that Macky is teaching me to work on bikes. He has a lot more experience working on bikes and until recently did all the bike work for both of us. So he is more experienced which is why he was trying not to say anything to see if I could teach Bo without his input.
Yes i understands now good to see it from a different perspective and I think that you have Mede grate improvements
Great! (Miss the cats though.)
great vide!! but would have loved to see him build the bike with cleaner/washed parts as a "best way to do" part of the teaching aspect of the video lol
My mans needs a youtube channel i find him funny / interesting 😁 ...him and Mack's sis together ❤️
Well, he's a keeper.. :)
What Crank Arm Install tool did you use?
Are you talking about this tool?
cycling.endurobearings.com/collections/tools/products/bbt-001-b
Why did you use the syringe instead of the gravity method you have in a different video?
Because the rear brake had been taken apart at the lever and there was air in the line at the top and air in the lever I decided to do the syringe method so as not to push that air down and risk trapping it lower in the system.
OMG...you didn't make him mount the tire with the tire logo near the valve stem!!.... Horror's.... LOL.... you know, for the coolness factor...
🤣
40:17 is it okay to clamp the dropper's top part?
Yup as long as your stand's clamp is clean and isn't going to scratch the post stanchion.
What tool are you using at 34:12?
Wheel pokey thingy
I would 100% subscribe to a ‘Beau Fixes Bike’s’ sibling channel!!
I am gonna put your crank in my bottom bracket 🤟🤟🤟
Brake fluid breaks down and changes color when it overheats/ages
Please, fit all your wheels with "Fillmore" valves, game changer on so many different levels. You will thank me later.
its called a lock tab
You should not use your finger to stop pressurized / compressd air
True if it is high pressure. However coming out of a tire valve stem isn't anywhere near dangerous.
@21:24 Syd's Lever sounds so British XD, sounds right for me hehe, not for you...
wish more update new video
I thought he would build a wheel as well
Trying way to damn hard.. Remy Metailler #1
That chainguide👎🏽! MRP
26:14 FYI, all liquids are considered incompressible fluids...
Why you don’t upload your video on bilibili?😢
