  • Part 2 to create a fake patina paint job on Crackpot, the 1978 Ford F100 rat truck build. I want to replicate the weathered, time worn and faded look that you see on old cars and trucks. I look at real patina for inspiration and start exposing the primer coats. I aso create bare metal flames in the hoof

      Thanks Manie. More to come in Part 3... Street rodders hate us because rats get WAY MORE attention at shows and we spend WAY LESS money! Oh, AND we have WAY more fun! 😄

    Enjoyed observing your patina method. Looking forward to the next video ! A rat rod project is so much more laid back than a restoration and therefore a lot more enjoyable. I recently took my Dodge Dakota rat rod to a local car show. There were some awesome full restorations there so shiny and clean that I would be afraid to drive them . Some very impressive cars , yet sitting back and observing the spectators my rat rod had at least 200 photos taken that morning . Many more than the shiny cars.
    There is a saying in my area: If you take your car to a show , "Don't park beside a rat rod." Because no one will look at your car!
    Thanks for the shout -out !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish we were neighbors ! I have an awesome parts store 3 miles from the farm here and some awesome salvage yards within 10 to 50 miles ! Amazon delivers within days !

      Had the same thing at small local car show not so long ago. Competing against shiny high dollar hot rods, my Rogue Rat stole the lime light and won People's Choice. And it costed me a fraction of what those expensive machines sets you back! I would probably lose my head in your salvage yards... You guys are blessed with the variety and low cost. If you do Facebook, there is a small group called "Rat Rods for Africa". Maybe you can post a pic of the Dakota? Would love to see it...

      lol... I know what you mean, I once parked my bike gsxr1000 next a crowd of people looking at a farari. All the people left the farari as started checking out my bike. the farari owner got pissed off and walked away...lol. i honestly didn't expect that, because I was also on my way to check out the farari.

    Looks Cool Div. Well done again. I am of the simple opinion "EACH TO HIS OWN". We are all individuals and have different likes and dislikes. I adopt the attitude of respecting each others choices, Give credit where it is due, while trying to appreciate each idea for what it is. There are many things that I see, that I would probably never do to my vehicle. However, I still try to appreciate the workmanship, effort and talent of others. Not to mention taking away ideas and knowledge from so many people that take the time to share here on youtube. Thank you for the videos. keep in coming.

      @ratrodsafrica  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you man. Agree 100% with you. Different ideas, likes is what makes the world interesting. If we all liked the same, what a boring place it would be! I embrace constructive criticism and difference of opinion. If someone don't like my shit, feel free to tell me, I'm cool with that. Even better, tell me why an suggest a better solution. Then we all learn and grow and communicate 😃

      @@yarkie1 clear coat is such a pain in the ass! And then afterwards you stress about scratching it, which defies the whole patina/rat rod thing in my mind!
