Xiaomi Mi5 Bend Test - Scratch test - Burn test - Durability test

  • Xiaomi is one of the biggest smart phone manufacturers in the world! But... do they design a solid phone? They are well known for their high end components, but low prices. After watching this video, you'll understand a bit more about how they keep their prices so low.
    During this video I will scratch the phone with different picks. Each pick has a different material on the tip, that will allow us to find out where the screen falls on Mohs Scale of Hardness. Since this phone has Gorilla Glass 4... it should be predictable on this device.
    I will also burn the screen, and finally do the bend test. Which is the ultimate test of durability. Stepping on your phone... sitting on your phone... Keeping your phone in your pants pocket... all of those actions can put stress on your phone causing it to bend or break.
    IF Xiaomi wants to send me a Mi5 Pro to test, I will happily do so, (unbiased.) but I probably wont buy another one. I always fund my own videos, and this hobby is getting expensive.

      LeoLawliet there are many seller who handcarry it from china to my country, and I just got lucky there was a reviewer that just sell it to me in cheaper price after he just use it for a week. For mi5 pro (the one that has higher clock speed, 4gb ram, and 128gb interna memory), I totally recommended it, and this is coming from a user who used galaxy note 5, and LG G4 before. The performance is fast and the camera is great, the size feels right in my hand (because after some time note 5 and G4 were too big in my pocket and difficult to use one handedly).
      Not to mention it cost only half the price of Samsung S7 edge. However, I must admit, samsung has better camera, but if you never had note 5 or s7 before, you will not realize it.

    • @TheEvilPenguinGamer
      @TheEvilPenguinGamer Před 8 lety +44

      +BangRipiu Price is nothing got to do with durability. look at oneplus 2, iphone 6 etc.
      Its just how the phone is built, xiaomi uses very thin display and single frame construction, same on mi4. yes it probably reduces costs a small bit but not a massive amount.
      There is some advantages, it keeps phone thinner,lighter whilst giving a large battery, keeps price as low as possible. What is more important, these or bend proof? How many people really need to worry about bending their phone? The only thing is putting it in your back pocket and sitting on it, but is this enough pressure to break it, or so much that other phones will also break? Maybe some 'real world' bend tests are called for.

    - front glass is broken

    Fun thing: over at htc-mania forums a few owners of this phone have started reporting that they die out of nowhere, and one of them was told by the repair center that the motherboard was bent. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the lack of structural support might cause a crack on the motherboard overtime, regardless of the phone looking like new on the outside, hah.

    People are missing the point of Xiaomi phones here.
    People buy Xiaomi phones for the specs and the design. to deliver on that front, Xiaomi HAS to make compromises, and build quality and materials are probably the victims here.
    However, if you buy another phone at the same price (for example Samsung, LG phones) would they be as fast or as good looking as the Xiaomi phone? They may be more durable, but they have horrible specs compared to what you can buy from Xiaomi at that price.
    Buying a budget phone is picking compromises that you can deal with. Think about what you would want most in your smartphone.
    p/s: You can fix a bendable phone with a sturdy case but you can't fix a slow phone with one.

    • @slovelissimo
      @slovelissimo Před 8 lety +25

      You know what... I don't care about mi5 durability. It will bend if you want in your hands anyway as almost any other smartphone except a few. But You'll need to provide a different amount of power to bent it from different sides.
      So the question was pretty simple. Why not to do it the same way as with other phones?
      And as with iphones... in fact no matter how easy to bent it with your hand it's difficult to do it by the simple everyday use. Yes mi5 is not a champ but for 300usd phone... who cares?

    Hello Jerry, can you do a comparative test of the two versions of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3? There are two version, one with a Mediatek Soc and one with a Qualcomm Soc, the Mediatek version seem to have Gorilla Glass protection, while the other version doesn't. Also Xiaomi claims both version have metal body, but many users online claim it's just plastic. Thank you and keep up the good work :)
