hey, did you get to see right between 4:02 and 4:06 that Diana doesn't need to curl her tongue to sing?? her tongue was flat in her mouth as she hit the bass of a dramatic contra alto, were you able to see well?
Hi Vica. You're right! Yes I saw that as well. It left me completely baffled. I really don't know how she's making such a unique sound. I tried replicating her sound by playing around with different tongue positions and larynx height and the only position that slightly resembles Diana was when I curled up the tip of my tongue.
And for Diana to belt at a high pitch, with that voice quality with a flat tongue... it's leaving more questions unanswered. But I love the conversations that's happening here so thanks for sharing :)

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. Согласен , Диана сделала свое искуство пения примером для подражания современных исполнителей. Воздействие на чуства и разум зрителей делает это ошеломительным , это просто феноменально и выходит за рамки обычного вокала! Диана ,по сути, создает революцию в вокальном искустве . Думаю ,мы это почуствуем со временем в потоке современного поп ,рок ,фолк, джаз и других направлениях исполнения. Не удивлюсь ,даже и на оперу, если это искуство сможет адаптироватся к эстетике нашего времени.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly.
A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on CZcams.
A year ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of CZcams 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. I watch a lot of vocal teachers and few speak in essence, everyone looks at the language and doesn’t think that the girl’s vocal cords are shorter and thicker than all women, Diana’s genetics is such a gift from nature. Diana has a very rare voice. She is a contralto and she is also polyphonic, which means she can produce several tones at the same time. It makes her voice sound so full.
Diana's background: Diana was born on May 31, 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She was severely abused as a small child and abandoned on the street by her birth mother in winter when she was only 3 years old with a broken collarbone. She was then taken to an orphanage where, after more than one year, she was adopted by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist. At the age of four and a half, Diana still could not speak properly. She also stuttered. Experts recommended that she take singing lessons to improve her general speaking and vocal skills.
This is a new TV show in Russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. He's very impressed.

An incredible show in which talented children who find themselves without parental care get a chance to prove themselves. The contest participants are children from orphanages and children from foster families. Talented guys from post-Soviet countries aged from 7 to 18 years can demonstrate their vocal abilities to a professional jury and millions of viewers. Diana took part in two seasons of this TV contest, and in both seasons she became the winner. Watch performances with songs - "Rechenka", "Human", "Darnier Dance", "Wicked Game". A little bit about Diana : the discrepancy between the formed voice and age has its own explanation. On the way to success, Diana went through something that is scary to think about, and at a young age she went through a number of life trials.

There are 2 versions of this song. Elvis sang the Light Version in major key. Tommee Profitt produced The Dark Version, in minor key, and Brooke sang it. Diana sang The Dark Version, but changed the ending a little. Thank you for your reaction.

Diana, the unique singer and songwriter in Russia was born in May, 31. 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (www says she is between 1.66 -1.70m/ 5.5 - 5.7 ft tall.) She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she did not love her child, cruelly abused it and tried to drown it. The 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... from Irina Ponik, a massagetherapist. Taking a young child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, daughter Nastya 17 years... Now start all over again? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. The doctor recommended singing lessons and so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Her mother, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vblogger… admirable. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2012, Irina's family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her.
In 2017 Diana went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. A door had closed but a new door opened...
Diana entered another competition in 2018 and 2019 and won twice. That project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon Diana had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists to start their studies and promote their creativity. Diana won a scholarship and Igor Krutoy (Russian music titan, juror and sponsor) gave her a small apartment (37m²/ 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There she lives in the small apartment with her mother and grandmother and was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy. (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020). Now she is taught by the great Alexandra Pismennaya, who was a student of Prof. Donskoy. Maestro Krutoy also introduced Diana to the excellent singer, songwriter and producer Brandon Stone. With Maria Tarasenko (songwriter), the trio created the 9 songs of Diana's first CD, released Dec. 2021 with great success. The album received gold in June 2022.

Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. She also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D7). Your voice has natural polyphonic overtones and sometimes specifically an undertone = subharmonic. You hear the voice an octave lower than Diana sings. Not everyone can hear that.
Undertone singing is a singing technique that belongs to the main category of overtone singing in which the vibration mode of the vocal cords is modulated to produce sounds that are below the singing tone.
In contrast to overtone singing, these tones are not overtones (i.e. integral multiples of the fundamental, but integral divisors of the fundamental, so-called subharmonics.)

But she is not only a great singer and storyteller. She lives her songs and touches our hearts and souls. But also she looks beautiful and she is a humble, intelligent and hardworking young woman. She also gives charity concerts. She loves her family and her fans. They are 'Friends' to her and they are very supportive of her. Diana is grateful that they helped improve her home studio and also supported her future plans (first album). Her Russian Friends have chosen Diana as "National Treasure". I think, she is our “Earth Treasure”.
The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3-E6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically so far. She plays the piano and ukulele.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier as “normal”, applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy ... and now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS). She composes and creates her own songs.
In October 2021 Diana was invited to her first adult contest on Russian television 'The ShowMaskGoOn'. She won!!!

I urge you to watch her performance of Rechenka at age 14 on the You Are Super show (for underprivileged artists), where her wide range of vocal techniques is on full display.
