  • In this episode, we’ll talk about the best and latest entry-level or starter aircraft designed and built for beginner pilots looking to grow their first few hundred flight hours. We’ll talk about some of the most essential features and technical specs to look out for when buying or chartering an airplane, so be sure to stick around to see our top pick!
    When looking for an easy-to-fly plane, a good place to start is to consider an airplane’s stability, which refers to how the airplane reacts to disturbances. Next would be a high degree of error forgiveness, the simplicity of design, and the aircraft’s ease of use, to lessen the intimidation factor when flying your first plane. Lastly, beginner pilots should always consider reviews and suggestions from other pilots because, after all, experience will always be the best teacher.

    I would say that a 400,000 dollar massively overpowered taildragger is a horrible choice for a beginner.

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  Před 5 měsíci

      Indeed, an overpowered taildragger might not be the ideal choice for a beginner pilot. Training aircraft designed for beginners usually prioritize stability and forgiveness to aid in the learning process. What aspects do you think are crucial for a beginner pilot's aircraft choice?

    Ultralights are the best for a beginner as theyre every low speed and afforable to get into and try before you go spend $50k+, let alone $400,000. Can be had complete running in good shape for under $10k nowadays. And their Stall speed and landing distance is so low you can coast to an easy safe landing nearly anywhere in any field if an engine fails. And engines are sub $5k for a NEW one and so simple anyone can work on them

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  Před rokem

      You're absolutely right! Ultralights offer a great option for beginners due to their low speed, affordability, and ease of operation. The simplicity of ultralight engines makes maintenance and repairs more manageable and cost-effective. They provide an accessible entry point into aviation, allowing individuals to experience flying without the significant financial commitment of more expensive aircraft.

      Question: Are any of these planes (technology aside) anything like a PA 28? I flew with my dad (pilot) when I was a teenager (1980's) and I have been wanting to get back into it.I know the Skyhawk is a great plane,but I liked the low wing set up better for sure. Any advice?

      Honestly, there are many first time pilots who are business owners and who are happy to spend that much on a solid cross country machine that can be expensed through their business. And plenty of self-made millionaires who take up aviation as a hobby. The days of affordable GA are long gone.

    for better value, there are a number of LSA (light sport training airplanes) available.
    These aircraft have no more than two seats and are subject to airspeed and weight limits. Have been tested and approved under a different set of regulations than traditional airplanes. Both sport and private students can train in these LSAs subject to the limitations imposed on the aircraft.
    Popular models include the Flight Design CTLS, Tecnam P92, and Vans RV 12

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  Před 8 měsíci

      Absolutely! LSAs provide an excellent entry point into aviation. They're often more affordable, fuel-efficient, and can be a lot of fun to fly. Do you have a favorite among those LSAs you mentioned?

      Diamond looks good. Is rated high. But for my money I prefer a side yoke. The stick just gets in the way.

      @diflyboy9063 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Diamond is a great choice as a trainer but it falls short in useful load, climb performance, and speed. If those criteria matter to you (and they do for 99% of us), then there are much better alternatives for your money.

    Hey beginner pilots, dump anywhere from 300k to a million dollars in your beginner plane 🥴

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  Před 8 měsíci

      Absolutely! Because who needs a college fund or a mortgage, right? In all seriousness, starting with a more budget-friendly option can be a wise choice for many beginner pilots. What are your thoughts on entry-level aircraft for those just starting their aviation journey?

    • @Ciscoql
      @Ciscoql Před 8 měsíci

      It depends on what the mission is, as always right? It's in my opinion though that, if you're planning to go IFR, to wait and purchase an IFR plane until you're ready, since that adds anywhere from 20k-40k to the purchase price. As well, be mindful of rating limitations. A beginner pilot can't fly aircraft over 200HP until you have your high performance rating so as much as a good buy a Debonair is, I wouldn't be able to fly it. As well, you can throw multiengine out the window. Really, what we need to focus on is which under 200HP single piston aircraft without a retractable landing gear (although getting a complex rating is pretty easy). Since I'm from PNW, I'm looking at aircraft at the 50k-150k range but I think under 100k, preferably at the 60k mark is probably affordable for most pilots who just finished their PPL @@AviationFederation

    • @diflyboy9063
      @diflyboy9063 Před 6 měsíci

      Great points. Before taking the plunge and buying an airplane, I would invest the time in obtaining IFR and high performance ratings. That opens up a world of highly capable planes that are well-suited for low time pilots.

    Skip all of these and buy a used piper or cessna that you can realistically afford.

    • @AviationFederation
      @AviationFederation  Před 5 měsíci +1

      That's a practical approach! Used Piper or Cessna aircraft are often more affordable and can serve as excellent starter aircraft for beginners. They also offer a robust training and flying experience. Are there specific models or features you recommend for someone looking into used Piper or Cessna aircraft?
