Building a case for my zippo in this video. Starting with old steel wire/cable and carefully forge welding it together with anvil and hammer. Once I have a nice big chunk of cable damascus Martin takes it and machines it so the whole Zippo can slide into it. This makes a very cool pattern and protects the zippo! Hope you enjoy watching this video.

Hahaha 🤣 the paid promotion is the best. "Like who are you, who are you Martin. We don't even know"
So funny, I was actually wondering that at the beginning. I detect a slight accent, have formulated a theory, but possess no hard evidence as to who the enigmatic and hardworking Martin is 😂
🤣
“Are you firing me???”🤣🤣🤣
I was thinking that the more tim talked the less you would see if Martin!!
Tim would be lost without Martin!!!
🤣🤣🤣❤️👍🏻
Thanks for also showing the "off day moments" they don't get shared a lot but can be very instructive!
I hope this video pops off because that is so flippen cool.
Thanks Levi!
@@TimothyDyck all the axes insta sold out. Sheesh
@@TimothyDyck I love using a zippo pipe lighter for my favorite pipe
This guy is so underrated, the video quality is so good!
He’s like the Mr. Rogers of fabrication. I mean that in the best possible way.
"Are you fireing me?" Poor Martin
That was soo funny
I own ZERO Zippo lighters. But I would display this thing with pride. PLEASE give it to me. I'm sure I can't afford it and don't deserve it. You are the man! And Martin too, his machining skills are freakin' badass.
You have a wonderful disposition. I enjoy viewing your content. Continued success. 100k will be a proud moment.
🇨🇦🙏✝️
Your extremely underrated! This channel deserves a million subs..wish you the best and keep posting. I look forward to your videos
The way you introduced the lighter, I swear there was going to be some trickery. But you delivered on your promise. Gorgeous work!
EYE PRO, Tim! Eye protection when you're working with acid. We all like your pretty eyes!
I love your videos Tim! I can't wait to get back in my garage after the accounting busy season!
I wonder how much heft the case added. Probably feels really good to hold with the little extra weight.
I cut my cable, then just mig the very ends.
Throw the pieces in the forge to medium red untwist slightly & bang out all the rust/dirt. Flux, retwist if you can & throw back in the forge. Then just stick one end in the post vice & twist at welding heat.. couple times. Then forge weld into bars, stack, repeat until big enough.
Normalize.. forge whatever piece I'm doing. Normalize again, ht, temper, grind.
This is definitely a timely video. I just picked up a zippo with a very cool applique, since getting it I've thought about making a pattern welded case for it.
This is really awesome. I especially loved seeing you tackle a past project again, now that you've tried it out once and learned more. This iteration is a great refinement of the previous damascus lighter.
New favorite channel. Love the production quality!
Wow Tim great job. Very impressive. I can’t believe I’m only finding this video a year later. Very clever very nice. Also a fellow 🇨🇦!
That fit!! Looks amazing!!!
Love the chill music in this video, a nice change from heavy rock
Damn they sold out fast! Yeeeeeet! Keep up the good work fam!
I love this channel. Tim (and Martin) I can’t imagine anyone doing it better. I can’t think of anything even slightly less than spot on. The work, the videography, the presentation. All exactly right. SO entertaining! You are fantastic. 😊👍👍
Great job Tim! And of course it look beautiful!
that came out incredible
Awesome work!
Looks like timascus in black and white. Good teamwork. ✌
Love the videos!! Makes me think of what else I can make...
This is the best product placement for your axes!! These zippo cases are fantastic
Your detail to Fit and Finish is remarkable. Turned out awesome. Keep up the great videos.
Noticed the door handle shape and key and said hmmm, looks like a 4runner. Then the stock rims! Nice 2nd gen!
That turned out awesome, Tim!
That is one sweet case. Nicely done, and great job on the fit machining, Martin.
This was a sweet piece to watch. Really great job
Absolutely beautiful and masterful result well done bud
Love that you're revisiting this as loved the last one you did was cool feather Damascus this should be cool to
this guy is actually awesome
Nice to see that ur channel is growing 👍
That is a really cool Zippo case.
Amazing work, beautiful..
That's awesome. The shape of the Damascus case reminds my of my 1941 replica Zippo.
It's so nice to see somebody push through on a bad day. I was wondering if on cold days, if you preheat the face and dies? It just seems like you're shop is always a little cold, and I'm wondering if that might be hurting you.
That case is elegant... Holy crap that's nice. Good job Tim!
Gr8 job Tim, love watching the tt hammer in action totally 👌 😀 👏
Wowers Tim very beautiful Damascus design. Very cool and unique project this week. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Always excited and enjoy your videos. Can't wait to see ur next videos. Forge On. God Bless.

Yall work so hard yall underrated in the metel working channels
Definitely not the idea I had initially but I love it!!!
Beautiful job well done TD .👍🇬🇧🤘🍺
Tim your videos are so cool and different
Great job.
cool looking case. Thanks
Really cool video
Martin . Com Hahahahaha. That was the best ad i have seen on a while.
Perfect case for my zippo!
Very nice Tim, to cool.
this is so beautiful, can you maybe put a few of them on your (or martins) shop ? i would love to buy one of these, i wanted to make one for myself a few months ago, but im not so good at blacksmithing 😅
So cool!
I hope you keep selling those Axes! If I ever manage to get one I'm going to bring it on every camping trip I go on it looks so good.
Wow! That is a fascinating process. First time I’ve ever seen something like that…guess I’ve spent 70-years in a cave. Hahaha. Beautiful Zippo case!
awesome pattern......looks like snakeskin. very cool
really awesome.
Heyyyy Tim. Great job! Nice that you worked through the “off time” to see this finished!!! Love it!
Ps. The little hole in the bottom of the lighter is so you can stick the tip of the lighter fluid in said hole. Just a useless knowledge that some people don’t share but I do💪🏼❤️🤣🤣👍🏻
I've always stuck an extra flint in that hole...
@@chrisadams628 there room for 2-3 flints when you unscrew the flint spring. There’s all kinds of ways to do things!! Cool maaan!!!👍🏻
very watchable squarespace ad.
Martin: "Hey Tim I sort of accidentally put the end mill through the side of your cable Damascus chunk that took you all day to finally get..."
Tim: "Start building that website, Martin".
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like the wire rope you started with is hoist wire rope which is typically performed so adding heat to it could be release that preform as you work it cause problems in it not wanting to weld. Just a idea I could be completely wrong.
Nice time lapse with the hammer
Looks great. Like snake scales.
The pattern looks so kryptek very Noice job 🔥👍
The Dragon Scale Zippo!!!
Best of the best👍👍👍
It turned out beautiful, l really like that it turned out looking like snake skin demascus. Also loved the clip with Martin.
Damn that's sick AF!!!!
Very cool!! Almost makes me wanna take up smoking!!!🤣😂👍👍
Came out wonderfully, would love to see you do a jellyroll damascus case in the future.
I love it So how much to make another one?? LOL
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Nearly 100k subs!
Sweet!
I always thought of Martin as Tim's life partner.😃😀
I'd recommend barricade from birchwood casey for the first oil after the etch. Some find good results from soaking in kerosene, but wd40 sucks
Oh awesome! Good tip
Really nicely done - love the way that lighter came out! Amazing look - almost like snake skin or something.
I would like to see you try "TItanium & Steel" Damascus. I dont know if that is possible but I really like the Idea of a Knife or Sword made out of that
What's up Tim cheers from Texas brother.
So that must be how they make butter sticks fit in the box so perfectly...
I have always dreamed of doing this
Writing a comment on a youtube video?
Love the videos but was wondering what kind of sandpaper do you use
Nice video , what Angle grinders are you guys using ?
Hey Tim I’m currently laying some cable at my place. Let me know if you ever need more and I’ll send you some
How did Martin get so good on the milling machine?
Scarface here with the borax, great vid!
What oil do you use for quenching
Not a smith here, but I'd recommend hitting that cable harder to begin with, seal stuff up before oxides are able to form deep inside of those strands.
Hey kinda new to the channel here soaybe you've covered this, but what's the purpose for using windex while sanding?
You should have started the forge with the zippo
I NEED THAT! Do you send your products to Brazil?
Did all go well with the ebay hammer?
Can you make Tuatahi raciing stile axe
Can someone suggest acids to get rid of rust for projects like this?
Whatever,nice case!!
Before even watching the video...I WANT ONE
you should make some damascus out of milled damascus slivers
