    Really pumped to be bringing these 12 axes to you today!
    This particular series of axes is made from reclaimed railroad steel dated 1908 by the Great Northern train company, a rare find in British Columbia. For a short time around the turn of the last century the Great Northern made an attempt to battle the Canadian Pacific train company to draw out natural resources from within BC but after some fierce rivalry decided to abandon the rail line.
    The head of the axe is hand forged completely out of this rail steel and is fully hardened and tempered to ensure long lasting durability. Each head is stamped with the date of the rail (1908), the serial number of the axe and the makers mark on the front.
    The handle is 24” long made from hickory and fitted with a black walnut wedge.
    Each axe comes with a custom leather sheath that has been made to protect the user from the razor sharp edge.

    @Coleton33Music Před 3 lety +2

    Not that I've ever re-handled an axe head, but a tip from Essential Craftsmen is to sharpen the axe head on the very last step, after it's on the handle. If you're looking to make a lot of these, perhaps look into the "Russian knife sharpener" that Cody from Wranglerstar has a few videos about. Makes consistent, razor edge sharpening easy.

    • @Coleton33Music
      @Coleton33Music Před 3 lety

      Another thing I've heard about making the axe head stay on for a long time is to soak the head of the axe (with the handle in) in boiled linseed oil overnight. People would do this with water but it would dry up over time and make the handle loose. Oil fills the cells of the wood and stays there.
