Went to Iceland in the winter to hopefully see the Northern Lights. We did on our third night in Reykjavik. In addition, we explored different parts of Iceland over three different days:
Day 1: The Golden Circle including Thingviller, Gulfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Gljufurarfoss, Seljavallalaug secret pool
Day 2: Sólheimasandur, Dyrhólaey lighthouse, Vik, Jokulsarlon
Day 3: Kirkjufell, Reykjavik, Aurora Borealis over Sun Voyager
We rented our cars through SIXT and had a blast!

A friendly tip, stoppin on the side of the roads in Iceland, unless it's an emergency, is actually illegal :)

That sunrise at the plane was amazing! Too bad the owners of the property no longer allow tourists to drive up to the plane.
Indeed, but tourists were making dumb decisions and the owners were having to rescue tourists every day.

This is mostly shot on iPhone. Otherwise I use Nikon cameras!

What month did you go? I am hoping to go in October, but I am a little nervous about driving on the snow and ice.
Hey Nini! I went in January, but I've been in May and August as well. If you've never driven in snow and ice and don't have a lot of time, I'd suggest signing up for a tour where the locals drive. Unless you love adventure. :D

wow,how did you manage to drive to the plane site itself?thought it was blocked..
They closed it a few months after we went. You used to be able to drive to it, but now it's fenced off and about a 45min walk each way.

I will be there on coming Feb.. never drive in snow before..wondering is the hired cars fitted with tyres for snow ?..
And when i and my wife book this tour....she wasn't pregnant..Now she is ,haha (happy) but stress.. Just afraid some places we cant go due to slippery surface..

I'm from Iceland. During winter all cars including rental cars are equiped either with studded tires or hard shell tires so you're not just driving on regular summer tires :)
