    I love Masterbooks Math because it is based on Singapore Math and I use it along with Primary Mathematics US edition. My kids get CM relaxed with PM together plus MB Practice book during the Summer or break between levels for review.

    We started this course this week and my daughter and i are loving it. This is our first year homeschool after a tough year of public. (She was struggling before the lockdown). I had already decided to teach her myself before all this. After having several kids in public and dealing with the drill the info into them traditional method. This has been a breath of fresh air. I should have homechooled years ago! Thank you for your videos!

    It is a great approach. It’s not drill and kill and not a ton of worksheets, which is great for my son. He will shutdown with drills.

    So i have to agree with everything you said. We did MLFALE for my son in K and then switched to CLE math which is very thorough but definitely drill and kill. He now does not want to do math at all and he is my mathy kid. We thought it wasnt enough but in all honesty never did the additional activities which really make this a complete math curriculum. We are now trying to rekindle the love of math for him and definitely doing masterbooks again with “piggie” math for my daughters k year. I have a different perspective and viewpoint now and a new appreciation for masterbooks math.

    Nice review! We are currently buzzing through this book with my oldest. He did TGAB Level K this past year but after much research I felt like some good review and number practice would do him good before moving on to the next level. He has breezed through it and we are on lesson 22 now, and even though he has gone quickly as I suspected(since he has done kindergarten math already), I am really glad I had him do this. His numbers are being written correctly now after all that practice and he has really come to know his math facts better. It also will be teaching him to count by fives which he has yet to learn yet. At the beginning I felt it was super easy but as he goes along I feel it's a good comprehensive course. We really like both curriculums so much that we will be doing both once he gets done with the Piggy book. I'm looking forward to how Masterbooks covers measurements in level 2 :)

      The only TGTB curriculum I have had is the handwriting and a nature study course. I don't believe I did a review on them, but I can't remember. I have looked at other courses and at the curriculum/company as a whole and have opted not to use it. :)

    MOMB! My 4th grader was struggling with two digit multiplication so we switched to MLFLE 4 and no more crying. We do pull out the first course from time to time if he needs more practice on something. I am considering switching my other younger children as well but they aren’t having issue. They are using Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool offline which is even less expensive than MB. I feel the two programs are pretty close in corresponding levels. However Easy Peasy is a spiral approach and MB is mastery. I am leaning toward keep Easy Peasy for the younger.

  • @EducationalRoots
    @EducationalRoots Před 4 lety +3

    So, I personally do feel that it is behind since they say it is recommended for grade 1. But it depends what you are comparing it to. Interestingly, I am actually in the process is doing a video comparing level 3 to common core standards. As MB goes up in level it gets “back on track.” POM is completely on track as far as standards and also in comparison to other programs of the same grade. MB just takes longer to ramp up.
    But since they say grade 1, grade 2, etc. I think it actually is appropriate to compare it. It is not at the level of other first grade programs, hence why many use it for kindergarten. I agree they should take that off if they really don’t want it to be compared.

    • @EducationalRoots
      @EducationalRoots Před 4 lety +1

      Faith Through Arrows There is no level 8. Principles of Mathematics 1 & 2 are designed for grades 7 & 8. I would take the placement test. :)

    • @anydayblessings2354
      @anydayblessings2354  Před 4 lety +5

      Welllllll, technically they call them levels, not grades.....but I get what you mean. :) And they do give an intended grade/age range on the back.
      I think what you said in they first paragraph really says what I'm trying to get across. All these programs really do get back to the same place in prep for junior high. That's what I mean by enough - will it get the job done. it's not a race to get there. They all will get there. And I think it does enough along the way to simultaneously allow them to not hate and maybe even grow to like math and real-life uses for it. That's all. I don't disagree that grade 1 students in other programs are doing things sooner than grade 1 students using this book. I just don't agree that sooner is better or even necessary. My only hang-up with this course back when I was looking at it for my son was the amount of practice problems per lesson. They have addressed that now with the practice packs. :)

    • @EducationalRoots
      @EducationalRoots Před 4 lety +1

      Anyday Blessings What I’m saying is if they really, truly want them to be called levels, then they should omit the “recommended for grade...” because if you say it’s recommended for grade 1, then to me, it is completely appropriate to compare it to other grade 1 curricula.
