    Just a couple observations. It's not uncommon on old magneride shocks for them to be stuck partially compressed and locked in that position. So the fact that the new one was a little longer is possibly normal. your old shock is probably worn/damaged and not extending as far as it's supposed to.
    Also, it's totally possible for the top and bottom of a strut to be twisted. They don't excent/compress only. They are designed to allow twisting motion. It might be a little harder to twist a brand new shock, compared to one with worn out seals

    You do know that the new shocks are obviously NEW and the old shocks are worn so that will make one a little longer. The reason you are replacing the front shocks is because you lost some of comfort in ride quality being the one inch . What you needed to do was manipulate them a little to get them to line up and use another jack to compress it enough to bolt it back up. You lost money and time sending them back.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

      No, they were in fact far too big. I got a different brand and they went right in. I’ve installed several struts on other cars as well and none ever gave me the same trouble. czcams.com/video/8c7qfElwx3o/video.html

    All you need to do is removed the sway bar link. Place the top end of the assembly in the holes, and put the nuts on loose. Then hit the ears on the bottom to spin the assembly to line up the holes. There side specific check the angle on the ears to know which is which.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  Před 2 lety +3

      I was a little nervous of the specific brand quality and hearing they might not work properly with the magnaride, so once I saw I had to alter how they came to make them work I was out. I gave up too fast before I could not return them from scraping them up. For the price they should come aligned and ready to install without alterations, be labeled left and right. I’ve never had so much trouble with other struts.

      Once you disconnect the sway bar end link you have plenty of room. Once it’s all tightened up just put the wheels on and put it on the ground the truck will settle in to the new suspension.

      I just spent 3 hours going through this, and ended up re-installing the original's back. Although I didn't remove the sway bar completely, I don't really understand what you mean about spinning the base to fit...the entire assembly is welded, and when you look at the bottom ears/base it doesn't spin. I checked both struts to be sure of the right side.

    @elhalcondelbajio1923 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Well, a couple of days ago I replaced one (2016 Yukon Denali)and I saw exactly what you are showing here, I determined that the damaged one was compressed due to use and in addition it had already thrown away all the oil and when I removed all the screws it just fell to the not even necessary to loosen the stabilizer bar, and it was the original, well when installing the new one I obviously lowered the arm a little with a bar, tightened all the screws and that's it! The truck feels perfect, I don't feel like it's loading to one side. The height of the truck's body at the front is exactly the same as the right side, and well, my wife is happy to not hear that horrible noise that the damaged shock had. Now someone tell me if it is not correct or the opposite, I saw some comments below and they practically think the same as me, greetings

      I did what I felt comfortable with to the point I could still return the struts. By comparison, I went with the Arnott brand and they were aligned properly and went right in. For the money, that’s how the install should go. I didn’t want to mar them up and make them fit only to find out they could not be returned

We ended up having to replace the retainers on the bottom of the mount and use a large pair of channel locks to get them to mount correctly. Inconvenient, but not the worse job at all. I would even go with the set Danny had gotten and just made it work. Truth be told, you're going to run into these situations on aftermarket items that do not use the factory assembly machine. A friend of mine said I would have had to really put some pressure on them to twist them (at this point mu fear would be they could not be returned because they would get marred up), and I could have loosened the other side of the sway bar or removed it entirely. They may also be side specific which was not labeled

      @@dannyjohnsonsgarage That makes sense. I wouldn’t try to make them fit either. I’m leaning towards the Arnott SK-3354’s. Technically not magnetic, but has great reviews on Summit Racing for my application. Sounds like they have a bypass sensor for the computer built in to avoid error codes. They’re $499 each, but better than $2500-$3000 @ the shop. Thanks for all your vids. They have helped me out tremendously!!!!

I have a 2015 suburban and I’m not sure to delete magnaride all together or just replace. This is the worst suburban I’ve had to date. I’m grateful to have what I have however this one is a pain. Thanks in advance for any info. I also replaced my 22” rims for 20” rims to get a better ride.

    I got this brand and it was a struggle to get them on my 2015 sierra Denali. What I noticed after was that the truck now is like 2 inches lower than before which I have no idea why and it now it scrapes with the fender when I go through dip or a bump. My truck was lowered but it never did that with the original strut.

    I think the replacement won’t fit because of the following
    - the aftermarket ones are not magnetic ride they r standard so the ‏dimensions r different what the company dose ..they put resistors inside it to make it look like magnetic ride basically the error on the dashboard won’t show up because of the resistors u connecte thinking its really magnetic ride and FYI all of them r made in china so u guess the outcomes

    • @tru3r3dbullzps44
      @tru3r3dbullzps44 Před 2 lety

      The dimensions are identical the difference is when you swap the spring onto the new assembly it’s not lined up exactly because it’s done by hand and not preset in a factory. Also the old set is most likely worn out so it’s compressed in comparison to the replacement. So you may need to spin the base. But a brand new air ride set and the swap set measurements are identical.
