The 2020 Speed Chess Championship quarterfinals continue with a must-watch match between World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen and GM Vladislav Artemiev! The two chess grandmasters face-off with 90 minutes of 5/1 blitz chess, 60 minutes of 3/1 blitz chess, and 30 minutes of 1/1 bullet chess.
The main 16-player SCC Main Event has a prize fund of $100,000, which is double last year's total purse for what had been the richest online blitz tournament. The tournament runs November 1 -December 13, 2020.

Yeah. He's very nice. I felt genuinely bad for him after Magnus swindled the Queen v Knight game. I hope we see much more from Artemiev in the future.
I think Artemiev look up on Magnus. I see some of their OTB games and the way he plays with Magnus is he looks excited and delighted everytime
In the blitz portions Artemiev got a winning position in the majority of the games. He was also up on time vs Carlsen in the majority of the games. The pattern was Magnus gets below a minute or 30 seconds on his clock and then Artemiev takes a long critical think at the expense of his time advantage and then would play a bad move or blow the win in time crunch. Of course Carlsen's iceman-esque ability at endgames was the flip side of this coin. Together combined this equaled Artemiev drawing or losing games that he had in the bag. This young man was very close to upsetting Magnus..some improvement on his hyperbullet abilities, and clock management in crushing positions and I will not be surprised if he wins the SCC in years to come over Hikaru and Carlsen. In the postgame interview Magnus said he never once felt comfortable except for one game the whole match. He felt it was a a struggle the entire time. Someone who can have this effect on the world champion has the heart of a champion themselves. GG Artemiev

Both Daniel and Hammer are very good commentators. I have learned quite a bit more about chess in general right here, just by listening to the commentary. Hammer seems to have not only a very sharp analytical view on specific lines of play, but also offers very perceptive comments on the aspects of online chess. I can appreciate the points both of them make about just surviving in an end game against Magnus.
You get more emotion from on-line chess than otb because in otb chess you have a live opponent and etiquette dictates certain norms of behavior whereas in the comfort of your own home playing on a screen there is disinhibition and therefore a more "genuine" expression of emotion.
Its not that theres more emotion, its just that we can see it. You cant really watch otb streams

GM Hammer is a very strong player and when he talks he sounds strong, confident and forceful. Also you can clearly hear every word
His manner of speech is a little bit peculiar but he's one of the most instructive commentators out there if not the most!
@@igorm.3114 He is! It's sort of like singers. Some are great but you can't make out what they are saying completely. Some singers are clear with every word like Hammer.

Ah Daniel, you Yank rube, Hammer knows what he's talking about when he mentions the "brown cheese." I'm sure he is referring to the fudge-like, wonderful caramel-tasting goat cheese from Norway called 'Gjetost' or 'Geitost' ... a really pleasant cheese; and your mention of Salmon? For Norwegians? Come On. Sure, in general most Norwegians like pretty much all fish, including salmon, but I'd say the fish types one should most associate Norwegians with would be Herring, Cod, and "Whitefish"- (a general "all-in-one" designation which can include Whiting, Haddock, Hake and Pollock). Okay... got that out of the way... Magnus is THE master of the end game.
