  • If you had to choose 3 greatest players in the history of chess, most of the people would choose Magnus Carlsen as one of them! He is just amazing! And he has achieved this by making good moves! Blunders by him are rare and hence this game is very unique. Magnus is playing the World Rapid Championships 2022 and is in scintillating form. He has scored 8.5 points in the last 10 rounds. He has one full point lead over the field and then this happens! Check out the video to find out what happened in this encounter.

I think, being a guy who knows chess and should have known when his blunder was taken advantage of, that he had lost.. Magnus could (proven to) have been a classy guy like, as you put Artemieve is by at that time offering the hand shake/ thrown in the towel as he already had lost and conceding would have just been the proper thing.
Save himself and most importantly Artemieve some time…
Seem inconsiderate to hold up Artemieve because Magnus can’t just accept defeat once it’s apparent… But whatevs

its a blunder because his queen is the only piece that guards the knight that he just placed on e4, but white can kick the queen and theres no available square for the queen to go where it can still guard the knight , thats why he blundered a whole piece here. If he saves his queen, he will end up losing a whole knight vs Queen+Rook+Knight so he chose to just take the enemy queen and ended up having knight vs rook which is still losing.
